Biohazard: Death Island (2023)
Resident Evil 6 the Movie
Resident Evil is a complicated case of a game franchise filled with ups and downs. But when it comes to adaptations, to date, I've never seen a minimally decent adaptation of this franchise. Death Island isn't going to change that either, it's easily one of the worst Resident Evil movies I've ever seen, and I don't say that as if the other animations were good, but at least they amused me, entertained me or made me laugh, Death Island in no time managed to do that.
Even having 1h30m, the film becomes boring from the middle to the end, either because of the completely monotonous and repetitive scenarios, as for its tired script and without gas to raise the minimum of animation in an event, a scene, a fight. Even the franchise's most iconic characters fail to carry the work, no jokes truly work, and their relationship feels shallow in this film. The villain shot is the worst of all, every time he entered the scene the only reaction he could have was sleep, because the motivation and personality of the villain in this film is extremely superficial and tedious, along with his henchman who only serves to sexualize and stay silent in the background.
The whole plot of the film is tedious and generic, having again some new virus variant of the T-Virus, with the same risk of worldwide contamination and the same thing as always. However, incredibly this film managed to go beyond the generic of the generic, and structured everything in the worst possible way, with extreme superficiality in development. This is the most Resident Evil 6 movie I've ever seen in my life.
The animation, I don't know how they managed it, but it's worse than the other Resident Evil animated films. Vedetta for example is much more fluid and beautiful than Death Island. The 3D of the movie looks like something actually running on a Play 4. The physics are weird and the characters are stiff, followed by some horrible motion blur. The action scenes are boring, the direction is generic and the soundtrack is so boring it seems non-existent.
The Little Things (2021)
The Little Things - An unfocused thriller.
I won't lie, I wasn't really looking forward to seeing this movie, but when I read the synopsis I felt excited to watch it being a fan of Thriller, Mystery and Crime narratives. The Little Things, released in 2021, starts with a tense scene, initially strange in an unconventional way, but the simple act of having a car in the middle of nowhere brings a sense of anguish with the character, we feel that fear and fear for possible disaster. If the film were like that, it would undoubtedly be a great thriller, but the direction the plot takes is completely different.
At this point, the film starts to lose points with me, as the story progresses, the less interested I am with the plot that is on the fence about being a standard thriller or being a film that seeks to do a psychological study of the characters, keeping in the air the constant doubt of all Freud-level actions. But this indecision in deciding what it wants to be, made the film a bit boring and dull for me. I believe that the proposal could be much better explored, because the idea is actually good, the ending made me excited to the point of creating a theory of what happened, but the whole execution of the film did not hold me as I imagined.
But it is still a film worth seeing, it has a standard proposal for a Police Mystery, but with an interesting twist, without any interest in delivering an answer on a platter. All in all, it's an interesting film, but one that could have been much better used.
The Good Shepherd (2006)
The Good Shepherd: An ambitious but uninteresting film.
Honestly, I expected more from this film, overall it was a rather disappointing experience with an unattractive and unnecessarily confusing narrative. During most of the passages of time I got lost in the narrative, as the characters seem the same after 20 years, without any trace of aging, and to complete the confusion, the time changes are dry cuts, without any interconnection between one and the other. Other.
Look, the film has good things, but it's too long and not very flashy, I'd even say boring, and that's impressive because I'm a person who enjoys slow movies, but the tone of this one simply made me distance myself from the main plot. A story that seeks to explore the drama of a man's life at the beginning of the CIA, merging the division of lies and mysteries between work and family, necessarily needs to create an emotional bond between viewer and character. This movie just can't do that, all the characters are uninteresting and boring, exaggeratedly dark and sleepy, I don't think even Dark left me with this harrowing feeling of seeing everything and everyone looking sleepy.
On the other hand, the setting is very good, Robert de Niro knows how to direct the scenes quite well. The soundtrack is also very engaging at times. But otherwise I genuinely have nothing to say about it, I was expecting a mystery narrative with a family connection. The film even has a mystery thing that lasts all 2h40m, but it's so dull and confusing that it didn't involve me at all. I expected more from this movie, but I was disappointed with the experience.
La notte (1961)
Beautiful, seductive and reflective film
If there is a word to define La Notte (1961) it is "Intimate", the film is nothing more than a whole day following the life of a deteriorating couple, whether due to infidelities or lack of communication. The film does not intend to give you much more than that, you will follow the comings and goings of the two characters who, at a party, talk to everyone but each other. I believe that the duration of the film is not inviting to what it proposes, certain that the slowness of their intellectual life could end up causing fatigue in the second half of the film inside the party. I was quite bothered close to the film, as at that point the comings and goings become repetitive and tiring.
An extremely high point of the film is its direction and photography, there are really beautiful moments in the film, with phenomenal backgrounds. And one thing I particularly loved about the movie, especially the second half, is the constant movement. Everyone is walking around, socializing, and in the end - in a way - that's what the movie is about: socializing.
However, one thing that left me with a bitter taste in my mouth was the conclusion, I expected some kind of reconciliation between the couple at the end, in fact, that happens, but just as the film ends, dry. This lack of connection between the characters buys the idea of an unhappy couple, but even when both are opening up and confessing the lack of love between them, the film forces some kind of reconciliation that made me more uncomfortable than actually buying this idea. Of love still existing between them.
In the end, I thought it was a good film, I hoped a shorter duration would flow the narrative more satisfactorily. But, in a way, it is a beautiful, seductive and reflective film. I close La Notte with a note: 7/10.
Skinamarink (2022)
Skinamarink - scary and boring
To be honest I didn't feel scared in this movie, actually the trailer scared me, the movie was a cycle of boredom that I couldn't take anymore, which is a little sad because I consume a lot of Analog Horrors, I'm familiar with this style of film with low quality and confusing, but Skinamarink just doesn't deliver anything, it's an interesting proposal, an interesting synopsis, an interesting concept, but the whole movie nothing happens and when it happens it's a jumpscare or a loud sound that doesn't scare, and that's very too bad because Analog Horrors from Youtube in 3 minutes even with rough effects they convey an atmosphere and an anguishing sensation that I never felt in Skinamarink, an example of this is the classic Mandela Catalog that with simple editions and distortions with low saturation and some 5 filters, made me more tense in a few moments of 1 minutes than in 1h and 40m of Skinamarink. I highlighted scary in the title even though I don't feel scared because this style of film Analog Horrors they only work as shorts, when I saw the trailer for Skinamarink last night I was really nervous with a sequence of nonsensical scenes and a voice saying "In the house ", only with so little I was really scared, while the movie didn't even give me a little support, if it were a short film the concept would be better used, because Skinamarink gives the feeling that the guy had an idea for a book but the content is from a short story, it spoiled Skinamarink which became a boring movie.
Even though I'm not a fan of Blair Witch, I love the concept of the movie and how even though nothing happens the whole movie, you still feel compelled to try to understand what's going on, that's the essence of Analog Horror, instigating the person watching to find logic with meaningless things. Skinamarink even instigates trying to solve "The House", but it doesn't have enough content for 1h40m
Skinamarink clasp with note: 5
Good concept, bad execution, looks like Prometheus.
The Lighthouse (2019)
The LightHouse - An odyssey in paranoia
The Lighthouse was released in 2019, in the story at the end of the 19th century, a new caretaker arrives on a remote island in New England to help the local lighthouse keeper, but the isolation causes tension in the coexistence between the two men. Between fights and drunkenness, both begin to wear out and the tension only increases over the course of the situation, while the Lighthouse casts its light on the stormy ocean.
First of all, I must praise the work in choosing the film's art, something that reminds me of old films with a screen ratio outside current standards, black and white color palettes but a little thicker and grotesque in tone, giving it a heavy air and doing justice the work, in addition to the beautiful camera positioning, making variations between open and closed, when at home it is usually more closed and giving a feeling of claustrophobia, a feeling of not having space and is uncomfortable, while outside the home the shots are usually open showing the small island and the sovereignty of the Lighthouse bathing its light over the darkness. These aesthetic choices in addition to making the film visually beautiful, it conveys a feeling of insufficiency, of not having many options to escape, it is invulnerable. The terror of The LightHouse is something that is very intertwined with the human psyche, with the so-called paranoia, because at first you are placed in an environment where we know nothing, after certain events we are placed with a question mark in our minds, how far should we believe? How far is it real? Who is truly crazy in this story? Is there something behind it all? The film leaves you incapacitated, without wanting to explain things, just showing you what is necessary and the rest is up to you, including things like that are explored in films and games like Jacob's Ladder and Silent Hill, soon I intend to write about both, but what matters is that a good part of the tension caused in The LightHouse is precisely the unpredictability, when you can't even believe what you're seeing, it becomes difficult to dictate the characters, thus putting us in a totally inferior position, creating clear pressure and distrust between both. What in itself is a spectacular job, basically we are a non-acting character, the director did a job of narration where we viewers are placed in a situation standing in front of the characters, about not knowing exactly what is going on and about creating mistrust between both at the same time that we create bonds over time, we are a non-active objective, being present in situations but not acting in front of them. I think you can already see the complexity of this work and how incredible it is and knows how to work psychological terror well to the point that the viewer himself cannot even believe what he is seeing. Another spectacular work of this film is linked to how well the film marries the soundtrack, from the first minutes of films, the soundtrack follows a tone and rhythm where the environment makes up part of the melody, making the setting even better and being visually cohesive. And sonically, many times the soundtrack with the mix of scenes creates a gradual tension, I sincerely applaud all the Soundtracks in this film, they are very well done, placed and planned, it is an experience that just watching you understand.
Obviously this film is one of those that no summary, Review or Criticism manages to show all the coldness and beauty of this work of art, from the purposefully well added soundtrack, the screen ratio style, the black and white color palette, all the sets make this film a true psychological terror, every symbology, belief, mystery even the resolution itself, nothing is easy for you, you just have to be a passive agent to enter inside the film and capture everything the director wanted to convey, some concepts are very explicit as the very fact of isolation and how this affects the mind of the characters little by little, questions about sex, desire, greed, power, bullying, exploitation, this work is truly rich in content and it is enough for you to capture all this and make your interpretation of the work given the facts. This film caught me off guard because I wasn't expecting something like that, I was waiting for something like The Witch that even though it's good and equally rich, The LightHouse is much better and with more room for interpretation, I highly recommend the film but I believe that for many it will be a bit divisive given its narrative and construction, but the film is wonderful.
The Northman (2022)
The Northman - From revenge to visceral Viking culture
Returning to his kingdom, King Aurvandil takes his son Amleth to a ritual passed down by generation, to teach him and prepare him for governance, when his Uncle Fornir brutally murders Aurvandil, Amleth manages to flee the island and promises revenge to his Uncle and who would rescue his Mother and save his Kingdom now stolen from him. Inspired by the tale of Amleth with Shakespeare's Hamlet, The Northman goes far beyond an action movie about revenge, in fact Robert Eggers managed to make a definitive film about Vikings, showing their cultures, sports, way of acting, religion, far beyond what the generic blond men wearing pointed helmets, in fact the most favored point of The Nothman is precisely to invite you to enter this Viking world head first, get to know their operative modes and understand what their life was like, from the settings, ambience, climate, tone , the film dives into this side of culture, showing brutality and the nakedness of actions, especially when it covers mythologies, raising not only Gods and Kingdoms, but also Wizards, Trolls, Curses, Witches, the film is truly Viking from beginning to end. In the end, it's one of the reasons I loved the movie. In addition to all this about culture and religion, the film's plot is very involving, I sympathize with the character of Amleth from the beginning and follow his journey in search of the much desired revenge, unlike the director's other films, this one is much more direct in terms of its objective, but of course it has Robert Eggers' hand in each scene, moments of the film that I loved because it gives you permission to imagine and understand, mixing reality with mythology, opposing thoughts with Amleth and giving us a mystical tone in the movie, maybe the only complaint I have is about the pace that after a while it seems the movie is slower than normal, it seems that 2h is almost 3h, not that this disturbs the experience and is boring, but it really passes a strange feeling, especially for those who are not used to this type of narrative or find it boring, since a great action film is expected, and in fact when there is action it is extremely beautiful and well done, but the film is much more than that only i So, I think the action is more of an appetizer than the main course, otherwise the film was wonderful, including the change of character, which is built so intimately that it doesn't become generic, showing that even a rough Viking who decided to abandon traits of affection and sentimentality substituting for hatred and the desire for revenge, he is still human and has feelings giving way and reasons for the outcome. The Nothman is an incredible movie, I strongly recommend it, even though the rhythm is "weird", it's not bad at all, I loved it and I intend to see it again, the way the movie inserted me in this world was wonderful, a unique experience, if I can I recommend it see it in the cinema, before giving my rating, I would also like to say how beautiful the film is, there are scenes that I can't forget, this film is very beautiful, again Robert Eggers surprising me.
Prey (2022)
Prey (2022) - A respite from the Predator franchise
Prey is set in the year 1719 and we follow Naru, a Comanche warrior trying to be recognized as a warrior, what begins with an innocent but still dangerous hunt, becomes a battle for survival against an alien creature that hunts for pure fun. The film does not reserve itself, from the first seconds we see reports of the predator arriving on the planet, which ends up intertwining the local culture with Naru thinking that the predator's ship is actually a kind of signal sent to her so that she keeps trying being recognized as a warrior and honestly I like that, it has a very natural progression but the film does not delve into anything related to this culture, it is very superficial having precisely as a highlight the predator's hunt for humans. One thing that the film lacks a lot is the development of the other characters without being the main one, apart from her I couldn't feel empathy or even remember who died or stayed alive, they are well forgotten in the plot, they serve more to be killed, already that the most attention is on Naru and her dog, the film even tries to build a commotion between Naru and her brother, but for me it was just one more scene since it gave me zero impact. A small point that bothered me in the film is a comic tone, in the original Predator the humor is very accurate, in this new one there are moments that hit a lot but there are also some that are very childish, the type of joke that I would expect coming from a Teen series, but thankfully there are very few moments where this happens. A great thing about this movie is its direction, even sometimes I get ingrained for being low budget it is still very good, consistent throughout the film, some fight scenes are very good even if most of it is completely CGI, in addition to the whole scenarios the aesthetic part is very good in this film, as well as its soundtrack that mixes this feeling of danger and mistrust very well as if something is always watching you, including the director of Prey is the same as Cloverfield Street,10 which is also another film that manages to be a great thriller within its minimalism. The Predator's Design was something I really enjoyed, with armor and helmet portraying the most primal period of the time, however its appearance is far from the original that honestly surprised me a lot because it doesn't even seem to be the same race. The Predator's equipment to match the times are also more manual things, which mostly require hand-to-hand combat, which provided a very good dynamic since, in this film, the Predator, when it appears definitively, becomes very present. If there is an element that bothered me in my experience, it is precisely the skills of the Predator, in the original film even with the high human artillery, the predator took more than an hour of film to take a small wound, in this one I don't understand from the first scene it bleeds and he gets hurt, the first few times I even understand him getting hurt since he is still learning about the land, trying to find the dominant race to be able to hunt, but as the film progresses the predator is downgraded more to the point of being killed in a hand-to-hand battle, in the original film the mountain that is Arnaldo Schwarzenegger would not be able to defeat the Predator, lucky for him that the creature was in the right place and at the right time making a tree trunk fall on him crushing him, but even crushed, the creature still had the strength to activate a bomb and laugh, in this film I expected a much wilder posture coming from the Predator, which at the beginning of the film actually seems wild but as nears the end his movements are becoming limited at the same time that he suddenly receives an adrenaline rush and manages to decimate an entire camp of colonizers being agile and using all his equipment, but when the battle is with Naru the Predator is hard, almost like stunned most of the time, this Downgrade to balance Naru's battle against the Predator was something that disappointed me a lot, but in the end the film is about this dynamism between hunted and hunter, about using intelligence and studying nature. Prey, it's not just about brute force. The film is not bad by far, but it is not wonderful either, it has a lot of flaws and things that bothered me a lot while watching it, in all it is a very simple but well-executed film, for the franchise this feature is a breath of fresh air after so many disastrous sequels, I believe that for anyone who is an old fan this film will become a watershed but honestly it was a good experience, the first film is even better but this one is in second place, I liked it a lot but the Predator Downgrade was really good nuisance.
Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2022)
Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2022) - How to Spoil Outstanding Characters
Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a 2022 film produced by Nickelodeon and published in the Netflix catalog, a film that continues the animated series of the same name but the story works regardless of whether you watch the series or not, in the plot the four Turtle brothers are self-centered thanks to their powers, now no villain was a match for them, this leaving everyone lazy except Rafael who was always looking for training and focus, the situation changes when an alien race invades the planet earth and steals the powers of the Turtles, forcing Helps them return to their roots in hand-to-hand combat and fight to prevent the Krang conquest of the land. This movie, brought me extreme sadness and anger towards the work, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles always has a striking feature that is the personality of each character, each one is very charismatic within their proposed personality and it always worked very well, no matter if the movie it was bad or not but the characters were so good that it made you create a certain affection for them, I don't know how it is in the animated series but in this movie the characters' personalities are completely changed and it still manages to be bad, like Leonardo who is always focused, he cannot flow well in socialization, he always tries to maintain his posture as a leader and guide his brothers to do the missions in the best possible way, in this film Leo became a kind of Mickey 2.0, completely inconsequential, which he would not complain if he were well written but it's not, the characters totally lost their essence and turned into anything other than Ninja Turtles, that frustrated me a lot. The story is the height of the generic and meaningless, an alien race enters the earth, the protagonists who were strong are now weak and have to reinvent themselves to face these creatures and save the day, the impression I have is that the screenwriters got it everything that is generic but that would please a child and put it in this film, because there is no good story it is just things happening and when the script has a chance to give a dramatic tone, they simply abandon it to have one more predictable and generic event for the Turtles save the day, too disappointing.
The jokes and humor, which is also a very good feature in the characters, here in this film it is null, they even try to make several and several jokes but it is impressive how none of them works, everything is so artificial and unnecessarily exaggerated, it seems that someone ingested several dyes and now it's vomiting rainbows because this film is diarrhea, this is so noticeable in the script that the film with just under an hour and a half appears to last four hours, it is so tiring. I think the only thing I can praise is the animation, as much as I'm not a fan of the artistic style the animation is actually very good, fluid and with a very decent look, but I think that's all because even the battles are confusing in this film, there comes a point of having so much on the screen, it tries to pollute, so much cutting that I no longer know what was going on, as I mentioned above: this film is diarrhea! I definitely hated this movie and I was discouraged to watch the new animated series, there are works that change things but it ends up being better than the original, this movie is otherwise where they change for the worse, it completely lost its originality and what Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles did being Ninja Turtles, has become some forgettable work that at most will make your 5-year-old child distracted.
It was a pretty disgraceful experience, I love Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and seeing things like that come out of these characters I love so much is pretty sad, Nickelodeon has gone downhill a lot in the last few years as has Cartoon Network, I know there will probably be people moaning about the movie because it's " film for children" but this argument is invalid, there are so many films and works made for the target audience to be children but at the same time manage to have a depth and stories that everyone can watch and even get emotional. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has always stood out for its humor and story, to have that taken away is like ripping someone's heart out.,
Weekend (2011)
The beautiful and harsh reality of a romance
Weekend is an independent film released in 2011, in this film we follow the life of Russell who, after going to a gay club, ends up meeting Glen, a person who would change his life in just two days. As it is a low-budget film, so much of the film takes place in environments such as in a house or on a street, usually in more closed environments, the audio is used in a somewhat different way, I don't know if it's intentional or not, but the sound is usually much more ambient, as almost the entire film takes place in a closed place, the audio is very open, giving to hear the noise of the voice, the sound of the place, the noise of the floor, it's all very ambient that incredibly give a greater immersion and does not spoil the film. Even as independent films, he manages to make beautiful scenes that convey the feeling, which is very important for this film! For those who follow anime, you must already be used to a term called slice of life, which are stories that, as the name says, focus most of the time on showing the day to day of the character, in this movie it is exactly that, we follow a story that takes place between two days, following the relationship between Russell and Glen and how they complete each other, even though they are very different from each other.
The movie is a slice of life drama/romance so there are no action scenes, no big epic moments with a problem to solve, no, it's just their life, a normal life of two homosexuals, so the factor that is important in this the movie is the lines, the dialogues, and they are extremely well done, when I reviewed the movie I realized how well done the dialogues of this movie are, it doesn't need great explanations or flashbacks, just in one sentence he manages to deliver everything, and for the smart ones on duty, at the beginning of the film, there is even a hint of what would come later in the plot, and it is placed so discreetly during the dialogue that you don't even notice it, it simply goes unnoticed. Another thing that for this type of film you have to need is a good acting, and man, I honestly don't know how to point out the performance of either of the two actors well, they're just acting in the most natural way possible, so there are moments that I really I can't rate it as a good or bad performance, because it's delivered very naturally that I buy the idea, with simple lines and tone, often being almost whispering lines, it turns out that you're easily convinced. Another point that I would like to talk about is the philosophy of the film, this point really caught my attention, the first time I saw it I ended up going unnoticed because I was simply anesthetized with the end of this movie, which is beautiful, but when I received it I realized that the film is rich in socio-ethnic concepts, you are given a theme and discussed only superficially, leaving us to conclude and discover, when I stopped and thought about each one, I reached a depth that I didn't know what to think anymore, it's a theme richer than the other, opening up possibilities for interpretations, and because the film does not conclude each theme, it only leaves you as the viewer to draw your own conclusions about it.
I'm not a big fan of romance, as they are usually very idealized and generic, or try to give it a pessimistic tone, but this movie surprised me in that regard, it's not generic, it's not idealized, it's not that pessimistic, it's just life them, which is a very positive point, because it leaves the standard of romance films, being something that is much closer to reality, and on this issue of reality, the film is very raw in this regard, sex is not a mystical dance as we see in many movies, it's something simpler, often without the accompaniment of the soundtrack, just the ambient sound, making everything much more realistic, and this is very well done because as said above, as movies like this need to convey emotion to work, each scene of this is special, you feel what the character feels, I am really sad that works like this are not so well known and if they are known they are not seen only because they have homosexual protagonists, but in any case they are the ones who lose, because it's and movie is beautiful. Even though the soundtrack is not the highest point of the film, it is well placed, they know exactly when to start playing a song, so it creates a greater emotion and gives more impact to the scenes.
Back to talking about feelings, the film doesn't need much to introduce you to each other's personality, few opening scenes you can already understand Russell's way of life, and throughout the film when he and Glen start talking and exchanging memories, you form more and more Russell, the same with Glen. As a small consideration, when watching the first time I hadn't paid attention to this line, but when I watched Russell he starts to finally open up and talk about how he feels, and that part I can relate to, because he has almost the same emotions as I do. , how I feel being alone, how I feel being with people, how I feel being held back for not being able to do what I like, so all these layers to the character is really good, and it's not given too much, just given discreetly during dialogue .
I just loved this movie, it's really short, and well done, time flies watching it, I also enjoyed writing this review and I hope you got some interest in the movie, if you think anything of mine is wrong or poorly done, please write in the comment that I will be reading and responding. Again, as a homosexual I identify with Russell, and I also understand some of Glen's extremist thoughts, both characters are well-built and human, so they have strengths and weaknesses, so I finish Weekend with an 8.
Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021)
I thought it would be bad, but it was worse.
Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccon City, what about you... Initially I was already hopeless for this movie, since releasing the trailer I imagined it would be a bad but fun movie, but impressively it managed to be worse than I imagined. . As a fan of Resident Evil games, I feel extremely offended by this movie, I will never understand this logic, the guys already have the script for the games, but they still want to innovate and do something new.
Starting with the structure of the film, the feeling I had watching this film was that I was in a maze with a compass that cannot identify the north, the film is a soup of various things thrown at you, there is no line to follow , it's all very messy, following several things and events at the same time over 1h and 40m, talking like that it can be bad but fun since apparently it's frantic, but no, it's a boring movie, at 45 minutes of film I was struggling with sleep, the film can't center anything and it becomes boring, you who understand about the games get angry at what's going on and you who never played the games will possibly watch and get lost most of the time , the film is so incompetent at focusing information that when you start the film you come face to face with a text giving a context of Umbrella and what she apparently was doing in Raccon City, and that could very well be inserted in dialogues or in the search for the "truth" itself. I still want to complain more about the movie so let's continue and badmouth the characters.
If you're a Leon fan I recommend never getting close to this movie, because this character is useless, it's useless, he's made a fool of the whole movie, it seems comic relief that doesn't work, the very context in which the characters are inserted is different from games, I even wondered what would be the plot of the film since in the first 20 minutes the events had never been seen. Wesker is a character totally dropped and without any context, he often embodies the role of script doctor to explain things and his outcome is just anything. Jill Valentine is also totally useless, she doesn't even seem like Jill Valentine, she seems to be a supporting character who has a similar name to the protagonist. The most relevant characters in this whole movie are Chris and Claire but still it's so unseasoned their relationship and their motivation that it just makes ALL the characters in this movie forgettable, none are saved, and I found it impressive, I almost watched it. Two hours of film and I didn't care for any of the 7 billion characters, congratulations film.
The special effects... Ah the special effects... I think it should be called special defects because the Play Station 2 game is prettier than this CGI in this movie, and I think it's pretty dumb, because almost every movie has CGI , the blood is CG, the enemies are CG, the villain is CG, and it's a bad CG on top of that, even the dogs' saliva is CG, honestly I'd rather they take domesticated dogs, put makeup on them and do the scene , besides being more beautiful and real would not make me laugh in an apparently serious situation due to a junk computer graphics.
I'm deeply ashamed, I never wish evil for anything, but I hope this movie is bad at the box office for there to be no sequel, the movie it can't keep a direction to follow, the script is a jumble of things and the characters are forgettable , especially Leon. I get offended as a Resident Evil fan, this is one of the most boring movies I've ever seen, I never thought I'd say that, but Resident Evil movies with Alice can be bad but at least it's not as boring as this one was, for not having a direction to follow, events happen in a way that you viewer can't connect everything, and I get angry about that, because I didn't have to chew two games at once, they could have adapted only the first or second game, counting the story just about him paralleling or referring to the others, but that's not what happens, it's a shower of reference of the game without any context, I hated this movie, and now I understand why Dalenogare gave it a grade of 3, in fact it is a very bad movie, close Resident Evil Welcome to Raccon City with Grade 3.
Twin Peaks: The Return (2017)
Resurrected the series?
Twin Peaks - The Return (2017): Twin Peaks finally back after 25 years and would have to be introduced to a new audience besides clearly pleasing the old ones, The Return begins by telling what happened to Cooper after the events of the original series, he will be trapped in Black Lodge and his copy had been on Earth (as seen in the last episode of Season 2), 25 years old Cooper has to return to Earth to stop his copy and take him back to Black Lodge, however things occur preventing Cooper from falling into the right place and having a long adventure to recover his mind and bring the other Cooper to Black Lodge, I confess that at first I looked at the series with bad eyes, because the cinematographic was different, the music was different, even the progress of the series was slower leading me to sleep at times, besides being like Fire Walk With Me and having greater freedom in violence and nudity in the series, but one thing that hasn't changed is the special effects, anyway after years the use of C GI in the series is crude, it made me laugh at various times, at the beginning until then I didn't like it, until I got to the middle of the series where things finally start to move and become interesting, I still find the progression boring but the plot will become interesting. To be quite honest The Return it doesn't have the essence of Twin Peaks, and I think it's plausible besides it's been 25 years, but it's interesting still, and standard Twin Peaks, The Return series is much more confusing, having more explanations on some things and mainly in the world itself besides, it is worth remembering here that very few moments the series takes place in the city of Twin Peaks, so we understand better the Black Lodge, the finale of the series is also Season 2, confusing, giving the viewer the opportunity to think what they want than what actually happened, but it's pretty confusing. However, she manages to give a decent ending to Twin Peaks, in my opinion it could be better but it is better than having no ending. Note: 8, but the beginning is boring.
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (1992)
Hated at launch, even by fans!
Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me(1992): even after this disappointing conclusion, a year later Lynch decided he would direct a film to at least give the audience a better explanation, Fogo walks with me or Laura Palmer's Last Days as it was in Brazil, obviously tells how was the last days of Laura still alive, different from the series, this film for not having television censorship, Lynch used all its freedom, so the atmosphere is much heavier, even containing Nudity and murder more explicit, something that was more contained in the series due to censorship, a feat of Lynch is that he managed to gather a good part of the original cast for the film, but unfortunately when the film was released when it was released, the audience and critics hated it, nowadays it is seen with different eyes and they realize that it's not as bad as they said at the launch, but when it launched it was a real bomb, the public wanted an explanation, as much as I like the final episode of Season 2 I know it no It doesn't explain almost anything, the movie still manages to cut the events better, but the audience wanted the continuation of Cooper's story, and they hated the movie. We understand a lot of what happened with Laura when we see the original series, but seeing the film is very good because you understand better what Laura went through and it's actually something very heavy, and of course you have Lynch's creative vision for the series, nowadays people understand this better and understand that it's not a bad movie, but even so after the release of Fire walks with me, Twin Peaks was shelved for 25 years, Lynch didn't intend to come back to the series, but when they arrived with an idea for the series Lynch agreed and in 2017 the series would come back and amazingly enough because much of the original Cast would come back, to finally give the worthy conclusion to Twin Peaks.
Twin Peaks (1990)
Who killed Laura?
Twin Peaks (1990): Twin Peaks launched in 1990, is an investigation series directed by David Lynch, FBI agent Dale Cooper is sent to a small town on the Canadian border called Twin Peaks to investigate the murder of a teenager named Laura Palmer, Cooper and the Sheriff begin to investigate and discover dark things that happen in this town that until then was peaceful. Twin Peaks was a ratings success at the time, its pilot episode caught the public's attention, although nowadays it is not so remembered, Twin Peaks was a milestone for television, the story impressed me a lot, the characters, the mystery in finding out who killed Laura and the discoveries in this quiet town are making the plot better and better, the first season is really very good, the characters captivated me a lot, especially Cooper and his friendly relationship with the Sheriff, as well as of course the other inhabitants of the city are also well explored in this Season 1, I really liked this series a lot. The direction is also good, the music and plot, the only thing that has dated after so many years is the special effects, Twin Peaks has moments that are shocking, it's like art in a series format, you have to try to understand and most of these scenes are due to special effects that due to the time the technology is not as it is today, most of the visual effects ended up being crude, but if you watch with period thinking you won't find it so bad, and of course there are few moments thus, the series also prefers to use movements and sounds that leave you in this state of trying to understand what is going on. Grade 8.
Twin Peaks(1991): here maybe the decline begins, with the success of the first season, the second was immediately renewed and at the request of the producer the series should reveal the killer in its second year, the greatest charm of Twin Peaks is its mystery , it's understanding and connecting the dots, so having to reveal the big killer in the second year of the series was something that upset Lynch who was absent much of the second season, so we already have a greedy producer, fans asking for continuation, absent director and uncertainty of continuation, obviously it wasn't a good combination, finally released the second season, first episode was still good, kept the fans and so it went until episode seven where it had the big revelation and from then on the series went into decline, before to continue I wanted to say that not necessarily the second season is bad, even episode seven and other lost arcs are really interesting, but without a big mystery the audience was dropping Twin Peaks, oe episode seven in particular is extremely good, the whole killer discovery is perfect, but as said above, as what kept Twin Peaks was the mystery the big revelation was its decline, Lynch was directing only a few episodes and the audience started to get serious. , as a method to still keep her alive, a new villain was introduced that is quite forgettable, so a lot of the second part of Season 2 is subplots, some good and some boring, and the main plot was forgotten, the series for lack of audience was cancelled, the series has no ending, and the last episode was totally abstract and takes place totally out of reality, trying between the lines to give a conclusion, remembering even what happened with Evangelion, the audience hated this ending, had no explanation and it didn't even close the series, you end up knowing that this is not the end, it even disappoints, Lynch hated the direction it took, the series would not have a continuation and what was in the end was more questions than answers. Part 1: 8, Part 2: 5.
A Estrada 47 (2013)
In a book it would be better than in a movie!
The film is cool, I thought it would be really bad, but it's not, the costumes are good, the direction is simple, but the reason for my 6th grade is because the film lacks in one thing, being boring, I know the proposal it's not about showing the FEB's achievements in the war but the union between the members in the war, it's good and interesting, but the way the film approaches it would work better in a book than in a movie, because in a movie it became boring, almost nothing happens, the dialogs are legalzin but not enough to arrest the viewer. If it were a book, this proposal would go down very well, but in a movie it became boring, in terms of morale, it was about to close the player. I don't really recommend seeing it, I don't know, in fact I recommend reading it, Google Campaign in Italy. It will show Brazil in the second war there and it has very top stories. I highly recommend reading about the FEB in the Italian Campaign and its greatest achievement in Monte Castello.
A Menina que Matou os Pais (2021)
A film about a real case that could be better used.
ATTENTION THIS ANALYSIS IS FROM THE MOVIE: THE GIRL WHO KILLED THE PARENTS!
Brazilian film where he narrates in the version of Garoto Daniel what happened before Suzane's parents were brutally murdered in her bedroom. The film consists of showing all this context before the act, but the film is very poor in many aspects, from directing to editing, first let's talk about acting, I didn't really like the acting, especially coming from Carla Diaz, who plays Suzanne, at various times it becomes forced and cannot build the tension of the moment, in addition to the direction not helping much in this construction of tension, her acting forces at various times, I even wondered if I was watching a movie or a play made by the sisters of church in which I congregate. The soundtrack doesn't have much to say, it's not very essential in the film since it doesn't contribute much to the scenes, much of the soundtrack is made of heavy rock. Perhaps the biggest factor that this film lacks is the direction and editing, as in fact the narration of a real story can be interesting if applied in a succinct and good way, it didn't need so much screen time for contexts than in thirty minutes of film we can understand, in addition to the fact that the film, as it is a case of homicide, it tries to give an air of psychopathy in its edition full of flash and memories of crazy or depressing moments, but it ends up becoming crude because it cannot create tension and it stays those scenes flashing over and over as if the terror of the characters' minds had passed, sanity slipping away, if the scenes were more direct, unedited, untracked, just the movement and blood splashing along with the screams I can guarantee the tension would be bigger as it would be a raw and cold death without any trace of humanity but thanks to the editing of the film this is broken and the credits go up giving the dear viewer a relief from having put up with an hour and thirty minutes with a slur and weak contexts that make me sleepy. In addition to other factors like not feeling connection between the main couple that makes the movie move, The Girl Who Killed Her Parents becomes a real boring case movie and it frustrates me a little because we know it really happened and it could be a lot better tapped, but in the end that's what we got. Closure The girl who killed her parents with grade: 4.
Alan Wake (2010)
A unique experience!
Alan Wake, game released in 2010 and developed by Remedy Entertainment. In the game you play Alan Wake, a very famous writer who hasn't written any books in recent years because he's suffering from writer's block. With encouragement from his wife Alan along with her they go to the small town of Bright Falls and then Alan begins to experience supernatural experiences and seeks to unravel the mystery behind it all and rescue his beloved wife who is missing.
Alan Wake is a game with an interesting narrative, during the game, in addition to having the narration of Alan's thoughts, we also have other elements that make the game feel like a book, both for the events and for some lines and type of language used in certain scenes. The Gameplay elements in its base is from Survival Horror, I as a fan of this genre really enjoyed being able to face enemies with Survival Horror mechanics. The game's soundtrack I thought was impeccable, very good and mixes very well with the moment, being often a tense and electrifying track to keep the tension of the fight, but the game also prefers to keep only with the ambient sound, causing many of the sometimes a build up of tension, of knowing that at any moment something might appear, of knowing that nothing around you but your flashlight can protect you.
The characters as any good plot are well developed, at most there is a single character that doesn't have much basis but we can know more about him through the manuscripts we found. From Alan to characters like Waitress Rose are well presented, even though some have little screen time, the game's narrative makes us empathize with them and know that they exist, besides it's a small town and we have this feeling that everyone know each other.
The game's story is something extremely good, in addition to all the elements I've told so far that makes the game wonderful, the story is the main course, as it is an original, deep, interpretive and well-developed plot, a game rich in its universe, not delivering the information to the player from trays, but building the story little by little until reaching its conclusion. I particularly love this type of plot that makes you pay attention to understand things, and as I said above the narrative contributes a lot because it makes you get stuck in the plot and want to know what will happen next.
Alan Wake is an extraordinary game that I won't forget, the experience I had playing was unique, still this year 2021 Remake will be out so I hope more people will play this wonder. Alan Wake clasp with a 9/10 grade.
Malignant (2021)
The curse of horror movies!
(does not contain spoiler!)
--Evil, new film by James Wan the much acclaimed horror director thanks to the Evil Summon movies. Delving into the Review I will leave a short synopsis of the film.
Madison is transfixed by shocking visions of gruesome murders, and her torment is made worse when she discovers that these waking dreams are, in fact, terrifying realities.
Q: I actually had a lot of fun in this film, it's a very positive point that I must emphasize because amidst its ups and downs the film managed to keep me fixated on wanting to watch and find out what will happen next. James Wan's direction is something I particularly like a lot, he uses some very good camera positions and movements, especially in a sequel, it even becomes tense when he puts together a good camera position, a sequel and a chase scene, in the first few minutes of the film something similar happens and I was really tense because until that moment we didn't know what we were dealing with, thus generating the fear of the unknown and fearing for what could happen to the character since several moments the film breaks expectations that we have of films of the genre thus leaving the scenes of the first act a little more unpredictable, causing the viewer an affliction in not knowing what we are dealing with and not knowing what can happen.
--The movie has an aversion more to action and investigation than to the horror itself, in fact I felt very little terror, having only a couple of jumpscare that really scared me, in the scenes of the first act, several scenes could be put to good use. To create the tension since we didn't know what the creature was, but the film decides to take a more frantic turn so the tension is broken with a constant action scene and this is much more reinforced at the end of the second act and in the whole of the third. Speaking exclusively of the third act I was very disappointed, because the film could take several directions that in my opinion would fit better for a conclusion, but the direction the film takes I couldn't swallow right, it truly becomes an action movie, with a rain of gore and blood and well-choreographed scenes. In particular I didn't like it, because mostly the first act it keeps a good horror air even, and as we know more about the creature it becomes a very good idea to take advantage of in a horror movie, but in the end it becomes an action movie. With horror.
--I must emphasize that I enjoy the soundtrack a lot, it fits well with the moments, especially if you pay attention there is a track that is a instrumental of a very famous song in which to make you understand what really can be happening there. Famous little spoiler between the lines.
--Overall I must say that Maligno is a good film, a very original idea and a good direction, but the film lacks a lot in its script, as it starts in a good way and gradually decays until it reaches a point where the what matters is the action, the idea could be put to much better use. On the other hand it is a very fun movie and worth watching, I managed to entertain myself watching it, as much as I was disappointed I didn't feel that it was wasted time in vain because it was fun to watch. Overall I believe James Wan's Evil (2021) is a film grade: 6.
Good idea but questionable execution, the curse of horror movies.
White Chicks (2004)
I don't think it's funny...
The 2004 movie Whites that curiously attracted a lot of public attention, in the storyline two FBI agent brothers, Marcus and Kevin Copeland, accidentally prevent bad guys from being arrested in a drug bust. As punishment, they are forced to escort a couple of socialites into the Hamptons. However, when the girls discover the agency's plan, they refuse to go. Out of options, Marcus and Kevin decide to pose like their sisters, transforming themselves from African-American men into a pair of blondes.
The film itself is the basis of comedy, given the time it was released some jokes end up being acidic, which somehow makes me laugh, but I don't like the film, most jokes are without grace, when there is one spark of good humor the screenwriters overextend and eventually lose the fun, and almost the entire film becomes predictable, the reason why this film is so beloved especially by the Brazilian audience is the replay factor, in which the same happened over and over again. Movie and at one point you end up liking it or keeping memory, second factor is the dubbing, I can't laugh with this movie but the dubbed version ends up improving some jokes and I can even laugh at some, like the classic Milk Powder joke, I can laugh about it, all because the dubbing collaborates.
I understand that a lot of people think this movie is the best of all comedy movies, as well as The Smart Ones (which by the way is horrible) or Super Hero the movie (pain), but being very honest I don't see much fun, script is weak and often meaningless, shallow characters, generic and predictable jokes, in fact The Whites ends up being the best movie from these screenwriters but it's not by far the best comedy movie.
Grade: 4.
The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf (2021)
It works both as a standalone animation and as a Prequel to The Witcher.
The Witcher: The Legend of the Wolf is a prequel to the Netflix series The Witcher only this time we're following Vesemir's past, long before Gerald even became a Wizard.
In the story the Wizards are already starting to have a breakdown, little service, people wanting their death, but a mysterious event occurs where Elves are disappearing and monsters never seen before are appearing, in this Vesemir is sent with a Mage to investigate this event that ends taking an unexpected turn.
First of all I wanted to emphasize how well flowing and well done the animation and art direction is, the fight scenes are so well done that I was amazed. The narrative is also very fun, narrating events that happen in the current time of Vesemir already a witch and at times going back to the past when Vesemir was a simple slave, I found it fun to follow this narrative between past and present, because together with the good animation I simply I didn't feel tired watching it, on the contrary I had a lot of fun watching it. It is noteworthy that by default The Witcher this animation also contains a lot of violence, a well done gore including, and also by default also has nudity, but not as much as I expected there to be, it happens very little even.
Another thing I liked is that you don't need to have any knowledge of The Witcher to understand this animation, it works just as well as a standalone animation as a Prequel. Overall if you're a fan of The Witcher, whether it's a game or a series or you want an animation to pass the time, this one is a good choice. Closure The Witcher The legend of the wolf with grade: 7.
Groundhog Day (1993)
Perhaps the best movie to relive the same day.
Recently, with the release of Twelve Minutes in which I spent hours playing, I wanted to revisit a work that gave greater audiences to these events, reliving days in cycles until everything was right.
Spell of Time 1993 film and directed by Harold Ramis tells the story of meteorologist Phil (played by Bill Murray) who is subjected to a story in a small town where there is an annual tradition where the awakening of a Groundhog will tell when winter will go to end, indignant at having been sent to this story that for him is useless and insignificant, he leaves with his team of 2 people to do the report, but what he least expected is that he would relive Groundhog Day over and over again, the tomorrow it may never come into being, without being able to die and without anyone to help, Phil will have to find a method to put an end to this Time Spell.
To this day I am impressed with this film, it has an original script very well constructed and the plot is easy to understand, in fact the entire structure of the film is such that you can put it in the room with the family that will be an entertainment and so much, with humor and romance. It's no wonder that many movies and games these days were inspired by Time Spell, besides being a great movie it's mega fun and original. This film, along with some others, is something that I carry in my heart because not only are they good and they left an impression on me, but also convey a life lesson, even a philosophical one.
As the popular saying goes, "Don't leave tomorrow what can be done today.", furthermore, tomorrow may never exist.
The Suicide Squad (2021)
This is a James Gunn movie!
After the disappointment that was Suicide Squad 2016 I didn't put any faith or hype for this one to be good, but news that it would be James Gunn cheered me up a little since I like the director's work, but still I didn't put hype, but amazing because as soon as I had the opportunity to go watch it, I just loved the movie, the script is well constructed, the characters are charismatic and well developed, the direction is magnificent from the first scene, and the soundtrack is impeccable, even in the third act when it bursts is just wonderful with the scene and the color palette more vivid.
I thought the movie's CGI would go downhill since almost every movie has CGI, but incredibly it stayed constant throughout the movie, I was shocked when I saw that, I didn't expect it.
The unpredictability of the script is wonderful, because they are villains and Waller is a character who does everything no matter what to follow the rules given to her, it's just impossible to predict what will happen, several times I almost got up from my chair for the tension was so great that I was on tiptoe with anxiety.
The humor is something much more acidic, because it's villains, some jokes are big or small, because some moments there are sexual jokes that end up being childish but it's so few moments that it happens that you still laugh because the movie's humor it's very good, I don't recommend seeing it as a family.
In general I loved the film, you see it's a James Gunn film, that comes out when you put someone who knows how to work to direct a film where Estúdios doesn't stop the director from doing what he wants, I thought it was spectacular, so far this is best movie of the year, it was so good that i'm curious for future DC movies, whether it's going to take that new route or continue the mediocre old one. Well worth watching, Note: 9.
Blood Red Sky (2021)
Boring, tiring and meaningless.
Sky Red Blood... So. Horrible. It got to a point in the movie that I just skipped to the end, it's boring, nothing makes much sense, the woman looks like the Dark Web version of Gollum, the movie still tries to have a dramatic act between the protagonist and her son but it's so bad and so underdeveloped that you just don't care about the characters. Very annoying, Note: 3.
Batman: The Enemy Within (2017)
A good game but it could be better!
Batman The Enemy Within is the second season of Batman The Telltale Series and to be honest I liked both games but they lack more immersion and narrative construction, I know Telltale games are usually depressing with a focus on showing more the daily life of what the action itself is not the focus of the game, but in both games the middle of the story ends up being a little dragged, at least with me I got tired of playing several moments because it wasn't attracting me so much.
A very positive point is again the choices of Bruce Wayne's two personalities (He and Batman), which I think is really cool because any choice given with the two characters will directly affect the life of Bruce and his friends, until the end it remains constant that depending on your choices Bruce's life will never be normal as long as he has his second facet of Batman.
Overall I thought the game was good but mainly the medium could have made a better character construction and narrative that is constantly so slow that it becomes tiring, I recommend it if you like the character, I think you'll like it mainly for this view of the universe of Batman I I think it's cool, but Telltale Batman games doesn't surpass The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us.
Note: if you play, pay attention not only to the game itself but to the philosophy behind Batman's most iconic villain, even though it's not the main point here and being mentioned only in the last few episodes, I think it's very profound and it's worth debating which is the origin of evil.
The Forever Purge (2021)
Just disappointment
The Forever Purge the fifth and supposedly last film in the A Night of Crime saga, if I'm not mistaken the film was supposed to be out a few months ago but because of the pandemic it was postponed and finally released in the United States, I watched the movie and it honestly disappointed me, I I know that the films before this one are not good films either, but its proposal is very good, and it can be used to cover a huge area from government issues or as prejudiced ones, in addition to several others, but the film is restricted to a shallow script only. And to constant scenes of violence.
Very briefly The Purge is an event that takes place annually in the United States for 12 hours and that any and all crime up to murder is free, that is, you can do whatever you want in these 12 hours that no law will restrict you, in this fifth and supposedly "last "The film of the saga takes place in Texas, covering issues such as immigration and borders between countries, the film is so much established in this political and social plot but it is something so poorly explored that it ends up being there only to consume screen time with lines, clearly the The film was thought to be released as a manifestation of acts of the current US government but because of the pandemic it launched in a period that I don't know if it still has as much impact as it would have if it was released months ago. But anyway the film is extremely shallow with no depth to the themes that ends up having no impact.
About the plot itself it is not very confusing, years ago it was released 12 hours to survive and at the end of it we found out that the night of Purge would no longer exist, thus generating waves of demonstrations across the country and chaos reigning, in this film I thought that would explore exactly that, the new government trying to keep the peace in the country while trying to expose the population to the real reason the Purge night exists and thus have the NFFA fall, but the film just forgets that focusing on a story I can't even fit right on the timeline as no clues are given at what time the film takes place (Before or after the Revocation of the Purge).
As stated above, I was disappointed with the film because the concept is good but the execution is sad because it was so poorly done, wanting to present to us the viewer only a graphic violence... I won't go too far as I have several points to point out about this film and the rest, if I were going to write everything, it would almost be a book. The movie itself isn't bad, I even had fun watching it, but it's pretty standard for the others, just changing what happens during the day and not at night. The Forever Purge closure with a note: 5.
