Great comedy
30 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is a great comedy. Cary Grant and Myrna Loy make a great team. My only problem with the movie is the end when the maid comes up with the slogan for WHAM (if you're not eating WHAM youre not eating ham, or something like that) and Mr. Blandings tells his wife to give Bessie (or whatever her name was), a $10 raise. What! Lol $10? She should've gotten the whole bonus that Blandings got. Basically he stole her idea.

Also Mr. Blanding makes a speech about young people not being able to afford a home and I was thinking how true that is today. It's funny how the more things change, the more they really remain the same. Good clean movie with great characters.

Good Movie, except
1 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I was very invested in this movie and I thought it was great. Unfortunately the last 5 minutes made it campy. To think that Mr. Carroll was a madman who killed his wives after he was done with their painting was very silly. It must've taken him 8 years or so to do the painting of the first wife because the little girl was about that old when he killed her mother. Maybe he didn't go mad until then. I would've preferred if he killed his wife because someone younger, prettier or richer came along. I think that's what we were made to believe when the character of Miss Lantham came on the scene. And then the last line about the milk to the policeman made the movie even more campy. I'd still recommend the movie to a friend however because it was a good movie until the very end.

Not a fan
20 August 2023
I generally like Fred Astaire, but this movie bothers me. First of all, Astaire and Powell were a brother/sister dance team and it looks more like a father/sister dance team. But I just finished watching a movie with him and Leslie Caron, so I guess him with a young female lead is a thing.

Astaire's two dance numbers are more gimmicky than actual dancing. The hat rack number was just ok. The dancing on the ceiling was of course, pretty cool. Powell's singing was annoying and I fast-forwarded through all of her solos.

The acting was subpar.

I guess it was something to watch on a rainy day, although I fell asleep a couple of times and had to rewind. If you just want to add watching this movie to your repertoire to say that you've seen it, go for it. If you're watching it because you want to see a good musical with Fred Astaire, try a different one. Maybe Easter Parade.

Definite watch

This is a really great episode with great acting. I miss seeing the regular cast because it doesnt really seem like a Gunsmoke episode, but it is well worth a watch.

Nice Rom Com
18 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed this movie very much. When Faith runs away I cringed but I understand that is a formula for Rom Coms. I initially thought the movie wasnt going to be any good because the acting was sub par but when Faith moves to her new home, the movie gets much better. Much of that is due to Charles Malik Whitfield who gives a convincing performance. Very good family movie.

A must see
29 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoyed this movie. I had never seen or heard of it until it was on late on TCM. I must say, I was initially thrown off by Aldo Ray's voice ( it seemed to be a better fit for a boxing movie), but as the movie went on I began to see he and Judy Holliday as "real" people in a real world setting. Their voices weren't so annoying when I switched from viewing them as actors to a depiction of people in the world just trying to make it. I enjoyed the kids who were cute but not overly cute. The way the director set us up thinking it was going to be a screwball comedy and then gave us a 1,2 punch with the scene at the lake, was masterful. I actually rewound that scene a couple of times because Aldo Ray's performance was so heartbreaking. I could feel his pain and the pain of the moment.

Judy and Aldo were so convincing as a couple, they talked about nothing (kudos to the writers for the dialogue). They laid in one another's arms like a couple, fought like one and even kissed like one. I know a movie is good when in the middle of it I pause to go on the internet and learn more about it. I'd definitely recommend this for anyone who loves a good old movie.

A Great Guilty Pleasure
13 December 2020
This is a really good "Hallmark tackles the monarchy" movie. Many times this comes off very cheesy but the actors and the script in this particular movie make it nice to watch. I enjoyed all the characters and the leads chemistry between one another. This was an enjoyable movie that I have watched several times.

A good one to watch
13 December 2020
Although it follows the formula of other Hallmark movies, this was a pretty good one. I think it was because of the two actors playing the lead. I also loved the scenery which made this movie more enchanting than most. The only problem I had with the movie was how easily the girlfriend takes Brian's break up news but I understand that in the interest of time that's the way it was written. All in All, a very enjoyable movie.

Good old fashioned discipline
18 July 2019
Great episode. Lorene Green did a great job showing what good discipline could do. The actor playing young Jamie played a brat very well. Although I love the episodes that include all the Cartwrights, including Adam, this is one of my new favorites.
