Laserhawk (1997)
It was only $1.00
This movie was so bad, it was funny. The acting was terrible, except by M.K. (Gordon Currie)...oh, it was so bad. The special effects were of no real effect. The plot is predictable. There is a scene where they must read an alien language and the boy from Free Willy figures it out in like one minute. I mean, he was writing it down and everything. One minute...hello, let's try to make it believable. Well, as much as can be expected from any Sci-Fi flick. This is a good Sci-Fi movie for a 5 year old. Perfect to introduce them to the genre. The whole cast, except for M.K., doesn't seem to be too bothered by the fact that the world is going to be destroyed. The cheesiness is over the top! Do not see it. Do not even 'think' about buying it from the Dollar Tree...walk on by!
Charade (1963)
Just plain old good...
You can't beat a mystery. 'Charade' is not your garden variety mystery. Nothing as easy to figure out like 'Dial M for Murder'...it's better than that. (Sorry Mr. Hitchcock) Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn, Walter Matthau and James Couburn, make this flick fun. If you've never seen it, grab some popcorn and a cozy blanket and get ready to be surprised. Everything about this movie is just cool...in an old fashion cutting edge sorta way. This movie has it all, suspense, comedy and an interesting story line. The scenery isn't that bad either; it is very stimulating visually-it is directed by the same guy who did 'Funny Face', 'Singing in the Rain' and 'Out on the Town'. Also very amusing, is the way Audrey runs around town!
The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)
Wonderful!
This movie was real, honest and inspirational. It was well written & well acted. It was a pleasure to see Will Smith in a role with some depth. The story line has weight and although it moves along slowly...it keeps the viewers attention. The character development was a little lacking, as the film mainly focused on Mr. Gardner, leaving the audience to guess at what the other characters were thinking. But maybe that is O.K., maybe we have been spoiled by films that leave absolutely nothing to the imagination. The movie isn't corny, it isn't cheesy, it is a great story with a great message. I walked away from the theater feeling as though anything is possible. It is always nice to come away feeling mentally invigorated. Plain and simple, the movie is GOOD.
