Could have gone worse
25 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The movie reminds me of an crossover between "Gattaca" and "The Island".

I am little bit annoyed that it's an dystopian and highly controlled society but their secret love is not detected by any of the checkpoints that are shown when they go to work and day to day living.

Why would their flat or access to buildings be without surveillance?

Even on their final train ride there is an announcement that this train is only for passengers with special permissions, how did they get it?

If you overlook this small story wholes and the blade runner original cut style open ending you can enjoy this movie.

Action, fun, sex and drugs

Story not super great, but OK for this genre. Totally different movie but shares same topics as train spotting. Similar story telling like house of paper (same producers)

Good and Bad
16 September 2013
I have to agree on both previous reviews. It is not as bad as Onkelyogi wrote but not as good as ChrisWasser praises it. Kaiser Wilhelm is played as a total jerk, close to Helge Schneider style of acting. The classic German actors like Ferch and Möhring deliver some decent acting. But the unknown ones (like Kaiser Wilhelm and others) really bad. As the gap between them is visible so clearly, the quality of some scenes jumps from zero to hero and down again depending on the actors. The artwork is really nice so if you don't like the storyline, the picture work makes up for it. Costumes are nice, too. Some shots within the surroundings or city of Berlin would have been added some reference to the lifestyle of that time.

Nice effects, long story
27 May 2004
As another Emmerich movie about a disaster, it started slow with the "dramatic" iceing off big parts of northern parts of the Earth. For some reason the south pole is not getting more icy.

The effects are nice, even some animals are computer animated. But after a while you ask yourself what the story really is about. Half of the mankind will die by this accident, so why do we watch this with sentences like "What do you want to do with an polar kit in New York ?" - "I will go there".

Afterall it's a nice simulation with a long drawn-out family story about rescue within a new ice age.

Not as bad as expected
10 November 2003
While being in tradition of German TV productions (Sat1 production) I expected a highly unrealistic, baggy and inaccurate movie.

The opposite seems to be true:

After the opening screening, they showed a documentary, which revealed that the movie is indeed qute realistic. It`s an emotianl movie which bases on a "true story" and is filled up with modern special effects on the one hand, but also realistic represntation of the 60s io the other hand.
