The Girl from Plainville (2022)
Great start but then just drags and drags........
This could have been a brilliant three/four episodes. There is some great acting.
The series is based on a true story, but it takes some liberties with the facts. This may be off-putting for some viewers who are looking for a more accurate portrayal of the events.
Elle Fanning's performance as Michelle Carter is excellent. She brings a sense of complexity and vulnerability to the role, and she makes Carter both sympathetic and ultimately responsible for her actions.
Colton Ryan is also excellent as Conrad Roy III. He brings a sense of innocence and fragility to the role, and he makes Conrad's death all the more tragic.
Overall, I thought The Girl from Plainville was a well-made and engrossing miniseries. It is a serious and thought-provoking exploration of suicide, mental health, and the role of technology in our lives. The series is not without its flaws, but it is ultimately a worthwhile watch. I would recommend you watch episodes one to three and then episode 8.
Reel Monsters (2022)
Give them a break!
There is a lot to like in this film and clearly a huge amount of work has gone into the production.
The sound, music and lots of the shots are spot on and it held my attention a lot longer than some high budget movies.
Yes it has flaws and it won't be to everyone's taste ( I think it would work for a younger crowd. ) but it has real heart.
'A' for effort from me and I look forward to your next movie.
Stay Out of the F**king Attic (2020)
It's a miss. Big shame.
I was hoping the reviews were wrong but alas they aren't and this is a sad miss of a horror movie.
It wasn't terrible, just bad in lots of ways and quite ludicrous that it veers towards parody. Not totally wasted but close to it.
Gatecrash (2020)
Loved this movie from start to finish
I saw the scores on here before I watched the movie and after I guess that some people just didn't get it.
I loved it. And yes, why not say how great the direction was, how beautifully shot it was and the acting was impeccable. Why not say that? It was!!
It felt a little Twin Peaks in a good way but it's clear that it was originally a play and has the pace of a play but it kept me hooked from beginning to end. It's clearly full of metaphors and allegory, so if you don't get it all then that's probably a good thing. I hate being spoon fed information and I'm more that happy to engage my brain and become immersed in the world the director wants me to go in.
More please :)
Hard Kill (2020)
Hard Kill. Hard watch.
Clearly a little money has been spent on this movie ( just to pay Bruce and Jesse at least, maybe ) but it would have been better on something else.
I watched this all the way through so you don't have to. Thank me later :)
Termination (2019)
Difficult to score but I enjoyed it.
An anthology film with real talent. Where I didn't always understand what was going on it was always visually stimulating and the acting was always good. Sound and cinematography was spot on.
Great intriguing work.
The Alpha Test (2020)
Hey, let's invent a domestic robot but make it look scary as hell ;)
Terrible movie in every respect that I've watched so you don't have to. You're welcome :)
I Hate the Man in My Basement (2020)
Uncomfortable and so many questions but still a really good watch.
I love a film that leaves you with questions at the end and this is full of questions and I'm ok with that.
I really disliked the main character and his friends and felt sorry for the guy in the basement but that's ok too.
Great performances, great story and nicely edited and directed.
Horror and Hamsters (2018)
Loved it! If you don't think it might be for you, then you're probably right...
These guys know their horror and their comedy. The acting was A1 and it made me laugh out loud all the way through.
Horror and Hampsters 2 please !
Black Flowers (2018)
Pretty poor but by no means the worst.
A lot of work has gone into this movie and generally it's not terrible. ( I have just watched Birdemic so my bar isn't very high :)) Some nice performances but the story is preposterous. From Nuclear war to near neanderthal cannibal in two years? Give me a break.
Battle Star Wars (2020)
This might have worked as a parody but it isn't and it doesn't.
There has been at least some money spent on VFX and sets etc. but the terrible script, laboured scenes and characters who we really don't care about made it a big, big mess.
Cyber Bride (2019)
Just a terrible waste of time
I really don't know where to start on this one.
Speechlessly bad, enough said.
A Serial Killer's Guide to Life (2019)
Step 1 of self help. Watch this film!
Oh how I ache to find great movies and it's always a delight to find a hidden gem
I loved everything about the movie. It has a great story, high production values, great acting and oh what a rarity in so called comedies, it's very funny.
More please!
1917 (2019)
Will leave you exhausted.... in a good way.
An incredible movie which will leave you exhausted.
The camera barely stops moving forwards for a second and you are propelled through a journey along with the soldiers that is worth watching more than once.
Loved it!
Groupers (2019)
Don't assume that all good reviews are fake. I really liked this movie
Totally novel idea and really well acted, shot and nicely developed.
Sure it has flaws but I'd much rather watch this movie that has created such a visceral reaction from people than some of the other, middle of the road trash currently out there.
Really nice work
Invasion Planet Earth (2019)
Give it a break, definitely not that bad.
I really enjoyed the film. I just wished that some of the easier things to sort out had been, before release, like the poor sound. And cut out completely any VFX that looked dodgy.
The VFX range from amazing to terrible and stuck on.
The acting ranges from great to wooden as hell.
The story was different ( although full of holes ) but the dialogue was clunky and cliched which added to the woodenness of some of the actors.
Overall I liked this film I feel that the director should have stuck to just that and given some of the other roles he filled ( writer, producer, VFX, song writing ) to others. It might have made for a much better movie.
The Tombs (2019)
Close but no cigar
There seems to have been a spate of " Scare attraction goes wrong " movies recently and certainly this is one of the better ones.
Really nicely shot and generally well acted ( some wooden actors as well )
I didn't feel any real tension though and I didn't really care about any of the actors , they were all pretty vile characters of varying degrees.
It's a take it or leave it movie that you'll quickly forget.
Doctor Sleep (2019)
Great Horror Movie
Decent horror movies seem to be getting rarer but this was a welcome surprise.
Superbly acted and a great story.
The Final Goodbye (2018)
Every Example of Bad Film-making is in this movie. Give it a miss
If this was a comedy showing every aspect of bad movie making then this would be great. Unfortunately it isn't and it's a terrible movie.
The acting is terrible, the sound is up and down. You could drive a bus between the pauses in the actors lines.
The VFX are atrocious.
I had fun watching the shots where the actors are looking in completely the wrong direction when the camera angle changes within the same scene. It's hard to explain but you'll see what I mean if you'd like to waste an hour.
Tower of Silence (2019)
Shame so much work went into movie... it was generally wasted
Clearly a lot of time and effort went into this movie and it's nicely acted ( I think the script sometimes makes the actors seem more wooden than they actually are ) and generally well shot. Sound is good too.
The pace is so slow. The story is simple. Pick up the pace though
The fight scenes are ridiculously choreographed ( more of a dance than a fight ) with the actors stood waiting for their turn to fight it looks stupid.
VFX is ropey and please get someone new to sort out your Greenscreen work as you can see an edge around all the greenscreen clips. ( either that or you've tried to fake a depth of field and it hasn't worked and it looks like badly cut out greenscreen )
I'd love to see more from this group with another movie and another story.
The Shasta Triangle (2019)
Ignore Any Reviews from 4 December they're fake. This movie is a stinker
** Edit After I wrote my review a whole spate of positive 9s and 10s came through all at once. Fake!!!
This has to be one of the most convoluted stories in any film.
The script, development of the story and the VFX are dire.
The acting is generally ok. but not all, some stinkers too.
You won't feel like you've missed anything if you give this a pass.
Rootwood (2018)
Fire whoever thought this was a good idea.
"Someone wants us to do a documentary about a legend that's circulating Hollywood but didn't get into exactly what the legend is......"
We all should have given up at that point.
I watched it so you don't have to:)
Crown Vic (2019)
Really great gritty cop drama
Lovely performances and a lesson in reasonably low budget movie making.
Gritty and believable writing. Watch this movie before you go on a 'ride along'
Ready or Not (2019)
Brilliantly, gloriously over the top funny horror film
Just what I needed when looking for something great to watch.
It hit every button for great and at times shocking horror ( as in a surprise ) but it also has lots of messages about the class system and the treatment of workers and also family ties.
This is a gem of a horror film.
Temptation (2018)
Depressing mess of movie.
Some of the most wooden acting I've ever witnessed made the depressing story even more of a drudge to sit through.
Pure student drivel of the worst order.
