Praznik rada (2022)
Pier did it again
Great cinematography, beautiful shots, someone worked hard to give us this great experience.
Acting is unforced, the dialog flows naturally and feels like listening to your own neighbours.
Music is right where it needs to be, carries the emotions thorough the movie.
But then it becomes predictable, just like every other Pier Zalica movie. Basically what he does in every single one of his films is:
Take three or more characters to represent the three constitutive nations of Bosnia.
Let them fight about whose fault is it.
Why can we be human, people?
Why can't we all get along.
Then a big spoiler for all his movies, the answer:
Because of the Serbs.
Wristcutters: A Love Story (2006)
Really hit hard home
Hits home and hits hard, a hidden gem.
It makes connection with you on a personal level and keeps on going. Very original and the song keeps ringing in my head for days. You can call it a dark comedy but still it keeps this serious tone.
Use of colors is also making this movie striking.
I've never thought a movie about suicide would be so uplifting and giving hope.
The love story flows effortlessly and seems natural and plausible.
It's also a road trip movie with surprises along the way.
It doesn't feel slow as you may think in the beginning, it takes just the right pace for a movie like this.
Zadruga (2017)
Poor people's Wuthering Heights.
This fake reality show uses dumbed down scripts to take you on a journey through the roadkill eating pit bottom lowest forms of human life.
