Heroes: Chapter Twenty-Three 'How to Stop an Exploding Man' (2007)
All your questions answered, and more questions to be asked!!! A real heart-breaker
The last episode of Heroes truly delivered. It brings together all the heroes for the first time to make their stand. The humanity and super-humanity existing within all these heroes truly inspire us to live through inspiration that we have the choice to heal and save this world without having to make any devastating sacrifices; but what we choose to do is entirely up to us.
Peter, is impossible not to fall in love with, he is, to me, the truest hero of the show. Built upon love and compassion, which is how we should heal the world.
This whole show is truly amazing, addressing all forms of prejudice, spirituality, tolerance, compassion, healing...and above all love.
Smokin' Aces (2006)
a sin city/snatch wannabe
it seems these days good plots and good characters have been overridden with special effects and guns. this movie, while it had the potential to be unique, turned into nothing but a series of gun exchange, gore, and strange cinematography. It stole random hit men characters from all the great movies and watching it gave me strange flashbacks to good movies like SLC Punk, Snatch, and Sin City. where is the creativity? dark and violent movies like sin city and snatch at least had something that made them unique. Ben Affleck...i just cant buy into him when he speaks. Ryan Reynolds and Ray Liotta were the only decent actors and the only part of the movie worth seeing was the last 10minutes.
The Guardian (2006)
loved this movie, great character development and special effects
the guardian was an excellent movie that had so much to offer. While it seemed kind of a mix of Top Gun and Backdraft it held its own by creating new plots and trials and truly touching characters....except for Ashton Kutchers girlfriend in the movie, she was clearly added in as an additive to give girls wanting romance in a more drama-action oriented movie. The cinematography was unique as it reminded me much of a real documentary filmed on coast guard training. It truly gave an accurate representation of what their lives are like and didn't Hollywood it up too much. This movie gives coast guards the respect they deserve for all they do and the tribute to Katrina at the end of the movie was truly touching as well.
Lady in the Water (2006)
A great new genre for Shymalan
Lady in the Water is one of those movies that you will either love or hate depending on what you are expecting from the director. Previously, all M Knight movies have been thrillers with fantastic twists that leave the general audience in awe and frightened or enlightened. Lady in the Water does not have a twist which may leave you feeling cheated. However, taking the movie for what it is without trying to figure it out makes you walk out of the theatre having seen a truly excellent movie with a great plot that allows us all to go back to the fantasy of old bedtime stories and actually believe it for the 2 hours you are watching it. The characters are all unique and beautiful (character development always being a great talent of his) and the mystery and fantasy of the story leaves you feeling inspired and lifted or dare I say "awake"? The Cinematography and the sound editing is superb giving excitement, humor, suspense, and illumination all when it is needed. Shymalan has definitely proved his ability to make an eclectic variety of films successfully.
