Over rated
23 July 2003
The Shawshank Redemption is with out a doubt one of the most over rated films of the 90s. There have been many intriguing prison movies over the years, Shawshank is not one of them. Instead it's sentimental slop served to uplift the souls of the American people. There is never any sense in the film that Tim Robbin's character is in true danger. If the film wanted to show the true horror of prison maybe it should of been far more darker, instead of inspiration. Morgan Freeman is wasted as usual, in the role of wisdom spouting inmate. Freeman's character is mainly there to look wise and bring inspiration to us all, but he is never treated as a typical person. Tim Robbins is good, but his character is all good, while the prison warden is sure evil. Everything is black and white. Shawshank has potential to be great, but director Frank Darabant's obsession with being Frank Capra ruins the film at every turn.

Star Wars is still a lot of fun
20 June 2002
Growing up Star Wars was one of my favorite films and even as

an adult I'm still in awe of it. The film is far from perfect, the performances are uneven, the dialogue is cheesy and Lucas' direction is not particularly good. However, even with all these flaws the movie is a lot of fun. Unlike The Phantom Menace or

Attack of the Clones, the original Star Wars has a larger than life feel to it. The movie unfolds like a genuine epic and despite Mark Hamill's bad performance, it's easy to relate to the character of Luke Skywalker. Not to mention that Peter Cushing makes for one terrific villain.

Horrible, but entertaining
2 September 2001
I Still Know What You Did Last Summer is quite a bad movie. It's predictable for the very beginning, the cast over-acts badly and the dialogue is laughable at times. Combine all these elements together and you get one hell of a funny film. In short, this film is bad, but it is entertainingly bad.

OK remake.
26 August 2001
Tim Burton's remake of the 1968 film PLANET OF THE APES was OK. It wasn't anything special. The make ups were excellent and the acting was decent. But the story line was rather weak. Tim Roth steals the film as General Thade. However, the original is a lot better.

Bad, but hilarious
26 August 2001
The Heavenly Kid is poorly written, poorly acted, has bad effects and the cheesiest soundtrack of all time. However, it's always hilarious. The scene in which Jason Gedrick tries on various outfits always gets me laughing. This film is so bad, it's great.
