I was holding out hope for this series to gel sooner or later. Since my 'name' shows allegiance to Mutant Enemy productions, I consider comments I make to be largely FAN-ning flames here. Yet, seeing where Echo 'winks' at Sierra in the end of this episode, I assume a thousand new fans have been created. That may not be enough for FOX to green-light another 13 episodes, but I believe profitable DVD sales are a lock. No matter how restrictive a network can be, Whedon will rise above their challenges. I could see, in the 1st episodes, how FOX dumbed down the finished product. At least a deal was struck in the back room that allowed Joss' lotuses to blossom. And HERE is the charming, 3rd ep.. So surprise, Echo can 'sing' with the best of 'em. Eliza is convincing, her magic parallels the man who blessed her with the TV role of a lifetime. Her greatest investment is in Dollhouse, as an artist AND a producer. It will reap untold reward. -PLUS, use of the word 'reap' in this ep. was most satisfying. Hooray!

Easily in the top 10% of all episodes (144). The ark of Spike is told in a great epic flood of images over an incredible expanse of time. --At least for a 44 minute, small screen effort. The hoops used to needlework this yarn only require a thimble-full of Buffy-verse knowledge. The title (summary) I've chosen refers to a great chassis and body of work. The two women that have provided 60 episodes worth of counterpoint and vampirism between them (on Angel & Buffy) are BOTH in this episode. ---If you still need a clue, McNab & Julie are each a vehicle here. Mercedes & Benz. If Janis is rolling one in her grave over this, let her rise up and bite me.

There are at least 141 inferior episodes of Buffy. Only 'The Body' and 'Hush' are equal to the vaunted status of this gem. This is a pinnacle of television excellence. But on a forgotten note: Much of the vocal recording was done just prior to 9/11. The video was shot just after the tragic, depressing event. There was LITTLE "something to sing about". But the lip sync action had to match the relative bliss that came before. Imagine yourself as SMG (a Manhattanite) dancing and sync-ing her way, as though nothing had happened. I've found practically nothing on the facts that surrounded the Buffy fantasy with this harsh reality noted anywhere else. I base my assertions on the dates printed on the original shooting scripts with the related schedule of vocal takes on the DVD 'making-of' special feature. Nobody interviewed referred to the real-world history occurring upon their lives, however. I can't say as I blame them anyway.

It seems Hollywood (and now Vancouver) have re-discovered just how funny pregnancy is. Fortunately, this little film isn't too knocked-up with a load of typical maternity jokes. The ones used here are often slapstick, slang or self-effacing. The slang (very inventive metaphors mostly) like much movie dialog is played as though everyday people are suddenly witty beyond reality. That's not to say the lines aren't funny or endearing. I just feel it should've been taken back a few inches around the girth. I also noticed the lack of score composition. Most of the music used in this was light, indie song fare. Quite the contrast to a 'quad-messter' representation here of 4 seasons, post- & gestation. The actual message that I just now can see (a few hours after screening) contained in this for me? You can lose your virginity & look adulthood in the face yet be able to retain innocence. It was almost as refreshing as Disneyland's 'It's a Small World After All' ride. Let me qualify this: I never was one to desire today's typical hi-tech amusement holes. All flash, noise and little substance (like Hollywood). Isn't Disney similar to cinema, after slipping it a Mickey? Seriously, the ride I love is Swiss watch type nostalgia. That's also what feels so good about this movie. Juno shows a world pregnant with trouble. But instead of shoving a typical delivery out of it's pouch, it coats the harsh with a Tic-Tac flavoring.
More importantly, there's a Page being written for Oscar at the awards.

I don't think I'll shine any light this one. But what really illuminated (the night it originally aired) was the full moon. SMG actually likes a good moon (in the sky). She even asked the DP to film one while noises by the 'cemetery' (She doesn't like real ones) interrupted shooting. I'd like to believe I'm 1st to designate the 1st original episode airing on a night of an actual full moon. Now for another strange bit of trivia I don't think anyone has mentioned: The theme musics from Buffy and Angel use the SAME first 3 pitched notes. I bet even Joss, Chris, and Jesse T. are unaware of this. I just HAD to tell someone! Consider this 'Easter'- 'Egg' material of the non-DVD kind.
