Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey (2020)
Absolutely Wonderful Family Christmas Movie!
Utterly spectacular Christmas family movie!!! Touch of Greatest Showman, Short Circuit all served up with a large dose of family magic. Delightful!
Songbird (2018)
That was a tough slog to watch
Story was trite and cringey, going for obvious characters, no depth, no chemistry, not even a good soundtrack....
The Peanut Butter Falcon (2019)
A beautiful story, well acted
Hadn't heard anything about this, watched on a recommendation. Loved it! Loved the way that the story portrayed Down syndrome, it absolutely wasn't a pity party. The emphasis the whole time was the story, Zak was smart and funny and hats off to Shia LaBoeuf - the 2 had such a good connection that evolved over time.
Holidate (2020)
Moments of laugh out loud...
Admidst the fairly formulaic romcom plot...there were some belly laugh moments. Story line seemed a bit fragmented as you jumped months at a time but overall worth a watch...
Plus One (2019)
Great story...
This film is all about the characters... they are very real and relatable, goofy, funny and not perfect. I really enjoyed the story. A worthwhile watch
Sonic the Hedgehog (2020)
My daughter laughed the whole way through
So you know what it's not going to win an Oscar and yes it's predictable but it was funny... my daughter and I giggled at the silly bits and just had a lovely trip out. She's already planning the next trip to So if 2.... I went as parent-martyr... ended up enjoying it way more than I thought. And the graphics were awesome ...
John Carter (2012)
Generally thought a bit naff
Really lost me when she started doing her hair in the reflection of her sword... acting was at best average... storyline of Wild West meets alien future.... really didn't do it for me I'm afraid
Artemis Fowl (2020)
So bad I gave up watching...
The screenplay was painful... contrived and awkward. However it was outdone in awfulness by the acting... shockingly bad. How can Dame Judy (who we all love) be this terrible. Just painful painful painful...
Destination Wedding (2018)
Awkwardly beautiful and funny
Wasn't expecting much from the 2 line review other than a predictable romcom but, like many others, what engaged me from the first moment was the incredible dialogue, relentlessly real, awkward, blunt and relatable. And funny, laugh out loud funny.... enjoyed it so much more.
The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
If you can get through the first 2 hours the 3rd hour is good!
Ok so I was late to the party in watching this. it's been on my list for ever being recommended by everyone that ever seemed to watch it. I wanted to absolutely love this movie.
In truth, I struggled for much of it. DiCaprio without doubt gave the performance of his career. But fundamentally I just couldn't connect with the character other than think he was a complete spanner. The fact it is based on a true story is more depressing than anything...
I've read countless reviews that agreed to an extent but that it was the comedic undertones of Scorsese's directing that made the film the massive success. That didn't, in my humble opinion, actually really kick in until the start of the 3rd hour... and that's when the film really comes to life.
In summary.... movie just too long..... DiCaprio amazing... Scorsese's as ever amazing..... story unbelievable but sadly true.
Lion (2016)
Beautifully shot stoytelling
One thing that stands out is how beautifully shot this movie is... and that is in now way taking anything from the true stories or amazing performances. Nicole Kidman's mother role shows the complete frustration as an adoptive mum battling the personality demons of children you've chosen to accept and love. And as any adoptive parent knows having to trust the children you've brought up to go and find their roots and not to love you any less, very brave. The fact it's based on truth Keeps you gripped albeit the outcome is probably unlikely to surprise
Mr. Right (2015)
Quirky RomCom
Was expecting a pretty formulaic romcom but surprised by the different slant this movie takes which made it... as romcoms go... much more enjoyable. Not likely to win an Oscar but for a Saturday evening in... great entertainment
