Baby Reindeer (2024)
Annoying
What can I say? The main character is very unlikable and I really did not care what happened to him. He is egotistical and narcissistic and exploits his trauma for sympathy points. The guy basically throws in the kitchen sink when telling us his sad tale, and really wants us to believe that he was dealing with a nefarious mastermind. Sorry, but I really cannot stand the main character. He tells a story that has been told a billion times, albeit in a trite manner. I do not know who was more sad: a stand comedian cum bartender who lives with his ex girlfriend's mom ( and who is still accepting handouts from the same ex) or a stalker with a sadistic streak? I really could not decide. This is not can't miss tv. If you want to be annoyed, watch it.
Night School (2018)
Funny
I think Kevin Hart is not particularly funny but this movie was quite funny. Ben Schwartz., Tiffany Hadish and Romany Malco turned this Kevin Hart dud into a rather pleasant experience. This film is not pretending to be more than it is. Nothing deep or live changing. Enjoy!
Paper Girls (2022)
I love it. Ignore the negative reviews
No, the show does not "groom" and is not "woke". Being gay is nothing special and the people on here who claim that featuring a gay character constitutes grooming need to leave their basements once in a blue moon. Your precious Stranger Things has a gay character but just because it remains unspoken it's all good. This is not ST and it does not try to be. It's a great show on its own merits. It's contemplative, considerate, grown up while simultaneously being a fun ride. It maybe has a smaller budget but that does not diminish the viewing pleasure/experience. And it's funny! To allow a comparison: Paper Girls uses a brush to paint a picture while Stranger Things uses a bazooka.
Derry Girls (2018)
Laugh out loud funny
I always skipped over this show on Netflix because I thought it was a typical Netflix production. Mea culpa. It's brilliant and I can't stop laughing.
The L Word: Generation Q (2019)
Just bad.
Okay, I'm one of those people who only posts a review when it's extremely good or bad. In this case it's the latter. This show should not have been rebooted. For all the reviewers who want to know why a lot of original characters are absent: they did not want to be associated with this car crash. Gen Q is still looking down on lesbians. Why else do they introduce Carrie's character and let her have an effing identity crisis because Tina's friends are all hot and she is a dumpy, middle-aged lesbian? Everyone on the show is hot and we're constantly reminded of that fact. And that's the reason d'être of this show: hotness. Unfortunately hotness does not equate being compelling or captivating. And that's what the original had. It was sophisticated, somewhat artistic and most of all mature. It was made for grown ups by grown ups. This show is made for the Tik Tok generation hence the constant hopping from one dumb character to another. Their target audience has the attention span of a gnat and would never have the capacity to understand the complexities of adult relationships as portrayed in the original. And here we are, pretty faces and an utter lack of depth. I have just watched ep.9 of S2 and since ep. 2 of S2 I have been dreading Friday evenings. This show makes me so mad because it's just so incredibly tedious. It's fast, superficial, childish and just stupid. In the original the sex scenes were some of the best and some of the most realistic. Here it's just filler. It's not hot to watch and you can physically feel how uncomfortable the actors are. I totally agree with others about preferring good straight actors over bad gay actors. I really don't give a rat's ass about any of the characters. BTW, what crazy person is responsible for wardrobe?!!! What's with the blazers and the shoulder pads? This show is no Dynasty. Dynasty knew it was a soap and never pretended to be more. This show takes itself so seriously and thinks it can acquire gravitas by throwing in every politically correct aspect of contemporary life. I will watch the 10th ep. But it will be in fast forward.
