Boku no hîrô akademia: His Start (2020)
Best Episode of Series
MHA gave us the story arch Vegeta should have gotten in DBZ. Producers and animators showed us that second-rate and deeply-flawed heroes are enough. Finally.
The Wheel of Time (2021)
Great - only problem is castinf
Only gripe is portrayal of Rand who was borderline apathetic and nihilist in the books unlike actor gentleman who is very interested in posing and being edgy.
Just as a point of clarity, the books character development was far from perfect, so while some character traits and archs seem unnecessarily divergent they are also somewhat welcome.
Easy 8/10.
Only Murders in the Building (2021)
Highly-Stylized Storytelling
Character development unfolds as a function of the protagonist(s) relationship to a murder. The singular goal of the story is told piecemeal, within a contemporary yet nostalgic nostalgic New York City setting that makes you want a trip reaaal baaad. This show is off the hook.
Legendary (2020)
Streamlined culture
Love it - great concept.
Would love it even more if Jamila Jameel didn't look like she was just there for a paycheck lmao.
Mare of Easttown (2021)
Yup - best thing since true detective
Love Kate Winslet and Jean Smart. If your up for a little Tein Peaks-like storytelling, this is a great option. Only show on TV I can't wait to watch each week.
Bridgerton (2020)
Great Potential
Great potential if the two main characters would both get off screen for five minutes.
Everyone else on the show has a seemingly more interesting story arch waiting to be told.
The Expanse: Gaugamela (2020)
10/10
Loved this series since inception and did not ever see the solar system's power dynamics change like they did in this episode. Similar to how the Martian economy collapsed after the inner war, the developers do a great job at showing us on screen how whole worlds are impacted by protomolecule chaos and high-level corruption.
The Undoing: Trial by Fury (2020)
Mortified, horrified, and asking for more
This episode was lit - tense misunderstandings and unanswered questions is what I live for.
Euphoria (2019)
Umm wow
Decided to check it out after the Emmy nominations and wins. This show is off the hook.
Mulan (2020)
Disnification?
If I didn't see the animated version of Mula , I would not know what was going on. Seemed like a few characters didn't need to be in the show. On top of all that, no one really ever witnessed Mulan being a hero, so it seemed like she was just consistently apologizing for stuff no one knew she did. This movie did not bring honor to us all.
Lovecraft Country: Holy Ghost (2020)
Great Watch
The show (ep1-3) is intriguing and suspenseful but too fast paced for character development to be both linear and meaningful. Great, new setting ... it's just too bad everyone has a consistent personality except the main two characters.
See (2019)
Great concept!
Great concept and the first episode had me hooked. The second episode had so many continuity errors I was sure everyone else but the audience knew the plot. Lost me, SAD!
