Black Mirror: Demon 79 (2023)

Claustrophobic, narrow-minded and predictable
15 June 2023
I feel Shaun Dooley as Lee Fisher, the police inspector who as a Sherlock Holmes shows up in the scene, should have had a more leading role. Otherwise, It's a story that doesn't quite work as it could because the focus is only one person without anything new to tell, very similar to other Netflix series about young killers. I enjoyed the end, at last. Partly, because it had been too long, film-length, and it seemed to be leading to a more than predicable ending. And also because it remembered me of the sci-fi of the 90s with the upcoming doomsday as a endless room for narrative. Somehow, it was a bit ridiculous and naive, and it was a bit of a waste of time to be honest.

Bad writing, kills the story, the original was best
25 October 2022
I read about the real story and it was much better and actually interesting. The show is too grand about everything white excessive. Other than Mia Farrow whose character is excellent snd really creepy genuinely being herself makes it to another level. Excellent acting even the main couple are glorious to look at and act week. But the writing is terrible, very high school tell a story exercise. Even the little details are deranged, the first letter includes two of the original letters sent by the watcher but by mixing them together it makes it strangely odd and scary enough for any couple to just leave and go but they move in? In reality it was just different.

The war begins
23 October 2022
It's very sad but at some point you realise there is no alternative to war. You cannot just ignore the death toll and say it's time for forgiveness. You can tell no one of them would be good for the throne either. So it's all a bit pointless as well. I would like to say it's an excellent episode but seems to just leave us with a cliffhanger. Obviously if you have read the books it's not, and it will be best to explore the epic in a better time. At this point i don't enjoy the acting once the lead is gone. They are following the books literally and it's well performed but I just don't see the powerful feelings Rhaenerys had as a teen, it started better than it has finished. There is But it's still quite Game of thrones and I am enjoying it.

Finally something exciting happens!
12 October 2022
I was beginning to think the plot was leading nowhere as a catch the mouse game and many circular events where the plot would stick to describe ups and downs to no purpose. This new plot is again going nowhere but it's fun and it shows some hope. I quite enjoyed it. I don't want to add spoilers but at least you get some Thelma and Louise feeling that the story is alive. And the tandem of actors ruling Gilead effectively works out pretty well. Perhaps this will be the only good episode of the series. It was worth the wait! In Gilead somehow there is a sense of justice happening, after all the system of handmaids has it's own logic and terms. I like that Aunt Lydia is having a voice in how it's managed.

A real family, genuine female feelings
10 October 2022
This episode was delightful, it gives me the chills at times but mostly I feel at home, it feels alive and real, and I enjoy their enthusiasm for life. Yes, it is a spin-off and it is so similar to Game of thrones than it's not admired or values, it's more of the same, I cannot be as ground-breaking and it's predecesor. Somehow, I enjoy it much more, 100% more, females feel genuine and specially their feelings more "real" and their quests more authentic. You can feel Alicent love and care for her husband and her worries as a mother. And the King 👑 love for her daughter and his grandsons. It's there and that works, it's a family business and in many ways is less epic but more emotional, so joyful at time and gut-wrenching others.

A subtle change from the books. Dynamic ruined
26 September 2022
I think the transition to adult characters has not worked quite well. Good try and you can tell who's a god actor for that. Also, there is a subtle change from the books - how the princess and the father of the children meet and how that evolves and the dynamics fail. We don't care for the dead hero even when it is a good actor and it looks perfect for the role. It just doesn't work in terms of connection with the princess. And the knight who killed, well he seems quite unnatural, he should feel something yet more compassionate at least. Curious it was just a small change to the original and it all vanished into a strange mess. You can tell the material was good but not well adapted.

Glorious
5 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This is so incredible, it has a perfect rhythm, like a symphony. I just watched a genuinely excellent battle. So brilliantly filmed, I am shocked some critics equal it to The Rings of Power, which pales in comparison. It's as good as Game of thrones, at their peak moments and good battles. They found the right dosis of slow pace and excitement, it's thrilling sent a chill down my spine when Daemon went towards the Sea How expensive that's must have been, a dragon in full force all over the troops. Fully shocked. As entertainment is at the top of the game. I was often checking on metacritic before choosing a show and I was about to ignore this for the poor 68/100 but well i guess it's my own 99/100 should be rated higher, no doubt. Apart from the battle, It all flows with full grace.

worse at every re watch
10 June 2022
I rewatched and realised it was worse than at first look, the interrogation is pointless, the little girl is obviously unaware of the path or the whole project to save yedis i would be shocked if she even knew where they are or where she is.

A disappointment and a waste of time and space
9 June 2022
Sorry but it Doesn't look professional, rather a high-school project, not even a good one at it. The fancy dresses and the visual effects help but up to a point it's just poorly written and not credible. The baddie is terrible at it, just loud and mad. It is ok for kids of that time, but nowadays I reckon they must be used to better quality series. I am fan of McGregor but this is just not worth the time spent trying to see some action. His voice is excellently trained and I like his character though It's overall just a waste of time. A better script and some creativity would make wonders. It is just not enough, and I not even considering the unnecessary violence against a child.

not leading to a successful ending
28 January 2022
It's written as a filler episode , as if there were another seasons and i do t think there will be, so it leaves the series not quite ready for a final episode

I like charlotte but the storyline with the tampon is ridiculous. It's not such good deal and only i had fun with anthony nothing else was remarkable.

Che and miranda got ridiculous and i think the title is about then but it's not debated as such it's a bit weird how this relationship evolves.

I want it to work but doesn't in my opinion.

meh all hype
16 July 2021
I don't see it for adults, it's teen entertainment and not the best out there. I like the character and think he deserved much better! What a twisted plot all for nothing, the end is disappointing and just turns everything into a big nothing that starts again!

Hopefully 2ndseasln will improve.

Hugh Grant at his best!
16 November 2020
I have enjoyed this episode more than the three previous, I found the mothers at school terribly superficial and annoying and Elena herself empty and strange, with inquisitive looks. Nicole more interesting yet mysterious. I think only Hugh Grant could save the play. In this episode her giver a TV Interview where he is juman and relatable and humble and less strange and irritating than the remaining characters except Nicole, who has been much better in other roles. At times the story doesn't matter anymore and it's pleasant to watch the panorámic views of New York. The city itself is charming and worth a look. I also noticed they all want to earn an award, except Hugh, so that's why he seems better at it, haw works on creating a real. character and personality, not a performance seeking an award. That helps!

An ugly twist. A red flag
9 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I am not enjoying the prospects of nicole kidman (wonderful woman as she is at her peak with the best hair she has worn for ages.) being the character who killed at the end. It's unfortunate. It's also what I thought at the beginning when they advertised the series, that she was to be the suspect. But no i rather have Hugh doing that than her. He is sure not the killer.

Gone wrong
2 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Unless there is a final twist, something like the husband killed her because he was jealous, we already have all the details, and not in the best way. I found the revelations heavy, too many, and disconnected from the version we had last week. Nicole is a fine actress, but her face is less expressive now, and still it doesn't convey the shock of discovering the web of lies naturally and fails to seem relatable for the audience. At times it feels like a good series gone wrong, they don't sound credible, the plot is rare, and they don't act accordingly. I didn't understand Hugh Grant's character motivations, actions, and feelings. Three months? You should have known Grace!
