Jen hsuan chih jen tsao lang che (2023)
Let's not just let this go, OK?
Can we not just let things go? Can we not just let go of sexual harassment? Can we not just let go of discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community? Can we not just let go of fathers' lack of responsibility at home? Can we not just let go of governments' lacking in transparency and credibility? It's the gradual tolerance and concessions that make us feel less and less like individuals. This TV series has sounded an alarm for everyone, emphasizing that it's essential to "care" and be genuine to find meaning in life. Ironically, Taiwan can make a TV series about politics, while on the China mainland, even the freedom to comment on this TV series is absent. We are grateful to Taiwan for presenting us with excellent, profound works like this.
Missing (2023)
Technology, both poison and rescue to humanity
I really enjoyed this movie. It had even more twists and a faster pace than the first one "Searching". The complexity and multi-dimensionality of human nature left room for each layer of the plot to unfold. Every character was not what they initially seemed to be. The seemingly gentle and successful boyfriend turned out to be a con artist with a criminal record, while the workaholic girlfriend was actually a hero who saved her from a difficult situation. The seemingly serious police officer turned out to be ineffectual, and the part-time delivery man, who was rated with only two stars and paid $8 an hour, proved to be extremely reliable. I hope this series continues to be made because in this era, technology can be both poison and rescue to humanity. After watching it, I felt like checking my Google Map timeline, only to realize that I had already turned off my location history. Well then.
The Last Blockbuster (2020)
The tables have turned
Once upon a time, Netflix dreamed of selling itself to Blockbuster, but who would have thought that the tables would turn and Netflix would become the dominant player in streaming industry while Blockbuster went bankrupt and closed down. And now, Netflix has even made a documentary about Blockbuster. In the movie, people are full of nostalgia for that era, and Blockbuster is a microcosm of that era. People used to communicate and obtain information from each other, rather than from computers. It may not be the most efficient way, but it has a more human touch, just like the smell of popcorn and the sound of opening a DVD case. I miss the music and video store downstairs from my home, which holds all my childhood memories about DVDs.
Comedian (2002)
The one and only Jerry Seinfeld
There are reasons why he is the one and only Jerry Seinfeld. He refused a huge sum of money to make the season 10 of Seinfeld, which would have been $5 million per episode and it was 1998! After a 15-year hiatus, he returned to the comedy club scene, with the pressure of his fame weighing on him. At that time, he was flying on private jets and appearing on The Letterman Show whenever he wanted, but he never slackened his demand for good jokes.
As an artist also represented by the celebrity agent George Shapiro, Jerry and Orny Adams formed an interesting contrast. When chatting with his peers, Jerry was warm and sometimes even humble despite his right to be arrogant, while Orny was eager to prove himself. They both included self-promoting content in their shows, but Jerry was more subtle and Orny was more upfront. When faced with disrespectful audiences, Jerry would make a joke and laugh it off, while Orny would get genuinely angry. When they bombed on stage, Jerry said he wasn't good enough and had no excuses, while Orny blamed the audience.
The phrase "love of comedy" is touching, and seeing Orny still doing stand-up comedy after so many years makes me respect him more.
Burassyu appu raihu (2023)
A five-star cast plus a five-star script equals a ten-star amazing drama!
If I could live again, I wouldn't care about making more money or being more successful, I would just want my four best friends to live happily ever after. All four of them, no one left behind! The witty jokes that come from the little things in life and the high-intensity twists and turns that begins in episode eight, are all very typical of Japanese dramas. I found myself laughing so hard that I started crying, and crying so hard that I started laughing again. It was so beautiful and the best Japanese drama I have watched in a few years.
In addition, this drama has a special significance to me personally because my college years were spent immersed in Japanese dramas. When "Konayuki", ORANGE RANGE, and Greeeen's music playing in the background, it was like my youth was suddenly brought back to life before my eyes. I even burst into tears at the first note of "secret base."
13 Going on 30 (2004)
A very delightful and warm movie!
Jennifer Garner's big smile makes the setting of a 13-year-old's soul in the 30-year-old's body particularly convincing. It turns out that Mark Ruffalo can be also be cute and sweet before becoming the Hulk. Big thanks to the screenwriter for not letting Mark in the parallel universe disappoint his current girlfriend and marry Jenifer, but instead letting Jenifer experience a sad moment before returning to her own universe and giving her a happy ending. I love every outfit that Jennifer wears in the movie. She looks youthful, beautiful, and innocent. This is a movie that will make you feel good on a Friday night.
This Is Going to Hurt (2022)
It does hurt!
If you think you're overworked and overstressed, watch this show, your pressure pales in comparison. If you're not well, watch this show, your will understand being born and living health takes some miracle.
I was taken aback by the end of Episode 6, but in retrospect, I think I could understand Shruti. The only reason Adam didn't go that far might be Harry. He has Harry and someone like Harry changes everything. Even fucked up lives worth living, talk to someone who cares about you and don't give up.
Imawa no Kuni no Arisu (2020)
Overall great movie with one thing disappointing
Karube died too early!!! I'm so touched by the friendship of the three, Karube only died so that Alice would take the survival game seriously? Karube can be more useful if he's saved for later, at least wait till episode 6...
