The Return of Count Yorga (1971)
So Bad It's 'Bloody' Funny
Decided I'd watch this film for the simple reason that my favourite genre of film is horror. There are plenty of classic horror movies but this certainly isn't one of them.
It really is quite funny but not because it's meant to be, it's funny because it's cheesey in the extreme and the sight of count Yorga arms outstretched making some funny rasping noise will surely have you rolling in the aisles.
It's made all the more funnier because there is no tongue in cheek approach by the actors they seem to be taking their appalling performances really quite seriously. What is my motivation darling? Not sure what their motivation was but if you want one to watch this film then I can only advise that it's a really good laugh.
The Man Who Wasn't There (2001)
Classic Film Noir
An excellent slow paced film which brings back memories of old classics such as "Touch of Evil".
Since the "Sixth Sense" it seems that many directors cannot make a film without putting every twists under the sun that they can think of into the plot. Not the Coens, the film unravels at a slow pace and simply tells you a very interesting story.
Some dry humour and a generally moving and intersting tale this is definitely a great film for a dreay Sunday afternoon.
In the Light of the Moon (2000)
TV-Movie Tosh
This film is very much like watching one of those late night made for TV films. The performances are all very over the top, the action is stilted and all in all the whole film runs at an annoying dull pace.
How the reviewer on this page decided that the actor who played Ed Gein at 16 was making a breakthrough performance I do not know. He sat there listening to his mother read a book and then had a five knuckle shuffle in the bath, this is hardly Oscar worthy (talking about the actor obviously-not the reviewer).
The film is poor, very poor and has all been done before, a true story should not be an excuse to stick to worn out cliches when film making.
Save the Tiger (1973)
Thought provoking intelligent drama.
I caught the film on television in a series of films dedicated to the late, great Jack Lemmon.
Although quite slow to get going the film is very tense at points and always thought provoking and intelligent thanks mainly to Lemmon's excellent performance.
You get the feeling throughout that the problems he face could be faced by anyone and his actions never seem unlikely.
Definitely worth a viewing, but then make sure you catch "Some Like It Hot".
