Alma (2022)
DAMMIT!
Like too, too many potentially great Netflix series, this one ends on a cliffhanger, piteously begging the streaming gods for another season. Is it not enough to make a really good limited-run show and then move on to new projects?
Outer Range: The West (2022)
10 for content, 4 for satisfaction
This show has an amazing cast, compelling action, engaging characters, and a storyline that drew me in.
But I'm sick of cliffhangers. It seems like every streaming series does this to beg the powers-that-be to renew them for another season. How about somebody makes a ten-episode show that delivers the complete story arc? Make great entertainment, wrap it up, and move on to the next project.
Outer Range: The Soil (2022)
I don't understand the whiners
The other reviewers all seem to be complaining about the lighting and the pace and the acting, but these are what make this one of the most engrossing series I've watched in ages.
Outer Range (2022)
Suspenseful, atmospheric, excellent
This show does what great shows do: It presents pivotal characters as multi-dimensional and it leaves the viewer with questions. I haven't been this drawn in for a long time.
The Silent Sea (2021)
Couldn't they have tried just a little?
Oh, boy... Where to begin? First, I expect to suspend disbelief with shows like this. Try to make it a teensy bit plausible and I'm good. But rumbling, crunching sounds on the airless moon? And dust swirling in the "wind"? No, please. Second, the storyline has holes you could drive a truck through. "We have a top secret mission that requires an astrobiologist to retrieve lost samples...but we, uh, don't know what the samples are. You just need to go get them."
I'll give anything a try, but this show lost me after 35 minutes.
Goliath: Citizens United (2016)
Could have been 9.5
This is a very tight show (season one). The only thing throwing a wrench into the works is William Hurt's overwrought acting. I suppose he has a great pedigree, but he really brought this show down.
October Faction (2020)
Not impressed
Good premise, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. There's too much angsty stuff and too little monster-killing. If I want to watch a show about teenage new kids not fitting in with the townies, I'm sure I could find 20 or 30 other options.
