"Top Gun" of 1955
26 September 2022
This was the "Top Gun" movie of its time. With incredible aerial scenes of the latest aircraft in the Strategic Air Command, including the B36, the last of the prop driven bombers, it was a great recruitment vehicle for SAC. It's claimed that enlistments in the Air Force increased 25% after the release of this film. The fact that Jimmy Stewart was a Brigadeer General in the US Air Force reserves wasn't exactly a coincidence either.

Frank Lovejoy's character as the commander of SAC was a direct knockoff of General Curtis LeMay, the actual commander of SAC at the time. If you liked "Top Gun," you will probably like "Strategic Air Command."
