The Normal Heart (2014)
Memorable and Heart breaking
This is such a well told story. Mark Ruffalo has always been an amazing actor, however here he really takes center stage. He has not had such an impacting role since his breakthrough performance in you can count on me. Julia Roberts and Matt Bomer are also excellent. It is great to see so many great actors coming together to tell such an important story. A scene towards the end of the movie between Mark Ruffalo and Matt Bomer has particularly stayed with me and really pulled at the heart strings. It is a story that needed to be told and the way the gay community were ignored during this period of time is a disgrace. This is a better movie that the much lauded Dallas Buyers Club and needs to find a wide audience.
Long Time Dead (2002)
very creepy
I went into this film not expecting much, but i was pleasently surprised. this is a far superior teen horror movie, and it real sends chills up your spine. i give it a nine, and i urge every one to give this small british a chance. it deserves to be a big hit
A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001)
superior film
i not being a sc-fi fan didn't really expect to enjoy AI, but i was very surprised. the visuals in the film are stunning, and the acting is first rate. haley joel osmond gives the film a great emotional centre, he is bearly of the screen from start to finish. jude law who is always good excels here and adds a comic touch to the proceedings, but for me the real star of the show was frances o conner. she is such a screen presence and a dynamic performer. the film lags a little in the middle section, but none the less this is a rare treat that simple can't be missed
Short Cuts (1993)
excellent
short cuts is a modern masterpiece. i have read all the reviews posted on this web site for short cuts, and i am amazed that so many people fail to notice the tallent of andie macdowell who in my opinion gives the best performance in this film. one person commented that andie isn't ready to play with the big boys, this is a stupid comment. she is equally as tallent as the likes of anne archer and lily tomlin and is far more appealing that peter gallagher and mathew modine.
the direction by robert altman is excellent and he should have one an oscar for his efforts.
Unstrung Heroes (1995)
a moving and funny film
diane keaton makes her directorial debut with a funny yet heartbreaking tale of a dysfunctional family. andie macdowell takes the lead as the mother dying of cancer and she gives one of her best performances to date. the film is given much needed comedy due to the presence of michael richards and maury chalkin
