Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024)
Medium-octane action
Less music. Less CGI quality. Less silence. Less octane.
Would I rewatch it? Most likely no. Would I recommend it? Definitely yes. Just keep your expectations lower, it's not Fury Road, sadly.
I'm a fan of the Mad Max universe, so getting another movie to build the universe further is great for me.
I would recommend going to a 4DX cinema (with moving chairs). This adds another dimension of action to make up for vastly missing soundtrack.
I'm waiting for the next movies in the franchise and I'll watch them no matter how good or bad they are.
The universe is what matters, I hope they spent more time and money on music and CGI next time.
One Piece (2023)
Sit back, relax, enjoy
This is no smart stuff, pure and simple emotions, whacky characters, simple jokes, but all together it creates that magic that brings the joy. I would also point out the acting, which I liked a lot. Kinda reminded me of "Bunraku", everything is a bit exaggerated, but not over the top, so I got that theatrical feeling. Cameraman work was splendid, to my taste. The shots and the angles, I liked it a lot, really helped me emerge into the atmosphere. And the music and overall sound design, all the gunshots, sword sounds, ship sounds, everything was on point. I also liked that the "superpowers" were not used without reason, and that they were not that powerful. In the end, it is all about the characters and personalities, rather that a bit-em-up power fantasy.
A really good adaptation, rare sight, highly recommend even if you haven't seen the anime.
The Bastard Son & the Devil Himself (2022)
Next level of teen/magic/romance shows
Loved this show, it felt like finally, those types of shows with "chosen" teens has gotten some sense into it. Characters' actions seem motivated, show takes itself seriously and does not go easy on anyone of the characters.
And the music, my god, the music is just awesome, it reflects so much the emotional tone of the scenes, for me it was the music that accounted for half the quality of the show.
Somewhat weak ending, but hey, I can cut some slack to the people who go into an unknown territory, they got almost everything right, and that's ok with me.
For the first half of the show being so good I can forgive the ending, and I will definitely watch it again, at least the first 5 episodes.
Strong 7.5 and a recommendation to watch with good sound.
Monster: Silenced (2022)
This is just a great filmmaking
The technique the director uses to make us understand what's it like to be deaf is truly amazing to me, especially in it's simplicity. This is what good filmmaking is about, you take the means you have and you use it to convey your message, your vision, your emotions. I got all that from this episode, right away. It's also a very important step in describing the main hero personality, but mostly I was amazed of how the director worked with my attention, swinging it from right to left at his will, easily. This is a true work of art, I don't know what else to say. The whole show is good so far, but this episode stands out for me.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners (2022)
An 8 for cyberpunk 2077 fans, 7 otherwise
I liked the game very much, I think that's why I have enjoyed this series. Many, many references to the game, the bad driving/learning to drive reference was hilarious)
Apart from that it's like one of the "love, death, robots" episodes where cyborgs rob a convoy, except, well, more depressive.
I clearly saw that guys who made it played the game and enjoyed it, got the right messages from it and now delivering them to us.
If you liked the game - you'll probably like this series as well.
Not the favourite cartoon, but worth a quick binge, definitely.
For people who did not play the game this series would probably be too overpopulated with info that is never explained, i.e. Net runner, rogue AIs, choom, etc.
Metal Lords (2022)
Nice first episode
That's what I was thinking throughout the whole movie. I also thought "interesting, how they will be developing later on in the show. What other ideas will the director bring to open the characters and their music". But then it was over and I realized that it's a movie. Sad. I'd be happy to binge this as a show. As a movie it's pretty average. Everything seem to lack motivation a bit, and sense sometimes (like the performance at the final concert).
This movie is ok, shame it's not a series.
Elvis (2022)
Boy, oh boy
The only thing I wanted when watching this movie is more Elvis! Man, I've listened to few of his songs once when I was like 14 and thought "I don't like it". Now I'm listening to "Suspicious minds" and "That's all right mama" on repeat. Such energy flowed through the screen I could barely sit at the cinema. It's a 9 because some tedious moments I wished I could fast forward to next Elvis performance. Apart from that, this is a legendary movie about a legendary singer, a spectacular performance of Elvis part, I'll be watching it again when it's available online, and maybe more than once.
Stranger Things: Chapter Six: The Dive (2022)
Flatlined
What am I doing, still watching this show... It's clear that it's not getting better... But I hope... At least the Hopper storyline is somewhat enjoyable and leaves me emotionally connected. Apart from that the season is still "let's split into pairs and talk, talk, then talk some more, roll credits!"
Stranger Things: Chapter Three: The Monster and the Superhero (2022)
A shame
Do you see it's getting worse? It's clear now, that there is something wrong with his season. A conflict on stage? Made just for money? I don't know. What I know is that this season should be called "let's split into pairs and talk, talk, then talk some more, roll credits!"
Stranger Things: Chapter One: The Hellfire Club (2022)
It won't get better in the next episodes(
I thought to myself "hey, it's slow but it's setting so many good (hopefully) plots! It would be cool to watch them unfold". I was wrong. Watched it to ep.7 so far and it's only getting worse and slower. The only storyline I liked is Hopper one. Everything else can be described in one phrase: "let's split into pairs and talk, talk, then talk some more, roll credits!"
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
7 for nostalgia
I put 10 because I don't think that current rating is fair, especially comparing to a franchise like Avengers where they fight hoards of faceless enemies in bloodless fights the same way yet those movies are all 8s. For me Matrix Resurrections is about nostalgia. It's about not giving in to the routine, but still managing to 'fly free', now that the time gradually becomes my enemy. The new Matrix is far from being perfect, but everything is better when you're a child, and this movie reminded me of some of those good old times, even though they were not as good as I perceived them. So is this movie, so my rating is 100% subjective.
I had my share of good emotions from it.
7/10.
The Witcher: Kaer Morhen (2021)
It does not get better to the end of the season
Season 3 comes out - I'll watch only the first episode. If it is still as bad as S2 - I won't watch anymore of this atrocity. This season is a spit in the face of witcher fans. Low budget-looking, boring, dull, uninspiring...
Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021)
It's fun!
This is a very fun, light movie. Watched it in 4d, basically 2d with moving chairs - it was awesome! This is how this movie is meant to be watched.
It was very entertaining and kids act great.
Wrath of Man (2021)
It's a "background movie"
If you've slept for half of this - you've missed nothing.
The movie is kinda "laid back" - you get lazy acting, lazy camera movement, lazy sound design, lazy script. There's just nothing to like. There's no iconic item - like the painting in Rocknrolla, there's no iconic characters, there's no movie in this movie!
Raya and the Last Dragon (2021)
"Show, don't tell"
The characters are never really in danger and they talk for half of the cartoon. It's boring for adults, it's boring for children, maybe this cartoon is for dragons?
