Winter Solstice (2003)
Avoid this film if you're a Rosamunde Pilcher fan
I shall never understand - why bother titling a movie after a book if you're going to change everything? The movie is just awful even if you'd never read the book - banal, uninteresting, just bad. There are a few reviewers who liked the movie who had never read the book, but to each his own taste. The point is, those readers who are big fans of Rosamunde Pilcher - to whom I would have thought the movie was pitched - value a certain type of story, not cliched, with nuanced characters. They didn't stay true to the CHARACTERS of the story, let alone the plot, other than by using their names. Really, just why bother?
The Offer (2022)
Watch it!
My husband and I really enjoyed this series and couldn't wait for the next episode to come out. The critics don't seem to get that the audience CAN figure out that it's not a documentary, that it's sly and facetious and meant to entertain. Which it did! Don't be a Barry Lapidus and underestimate the audience! It's not business, it's personal!!
The entire cast was terrific. We enjoyed them all, but special kudos to Dan Fogler, Matthew Goode, Anthony Ippolito and Justin Chambers for their spot-on portrayals of Frances Ford Coppola, Bob Evans, Al Pacino and Marlon Brando. They were amazing.
Just to add, I especially enjoyed the dreaded V-shaped formation of The Offer's poster art, in light of Episode 9.
One for the Money (2012)
Loved it!
I had NOT read the book before seeing the movie, but now that I have, Katherine Heigl will always be my mental image of Stephanie Plum, and Jason O'Mara will be Morelli. I just wish they'd done more Stephanie Plum movies with this cast. (Except Debbie Reynolds didn't look old enough to be Grandma...)
The Mandalorian: Chapter 10: The Passenger (2020)
Shout out to frog lady
I was really impressed with the Frog Lady character's physical presence. We only got a little of her dialogue but her demeanor really projected dignity and maternal concern. Kudos to Misty Rosas who was the actress inside the costume. I was amazed to realize she also portrayed kuiil. Such different roles, equally well done.
