Wasn't bad for a sick day at home
17 November 2023
It's not horrible but it's not hilarious. It felt like an hour long podcast/Ted talk mixed in with some humor. Yes, he's become known for his crowd work tiktok clips and unfortunately there is 0 crowd work in this special. I definitely chuckled a few times but more often than not it just felt like you were listening to someone tell you stories that were sometimes humorous. I know he's been catapulted into fame so of course I don't blame him for trying to capitalize on it and get out as much material as possible but this one just didn't hit the mark. I like raunchy comedy and I like offensive comedy but a lot of these "jokes" just sounded like my 13 yo son complaining about girls at school.

Goosebumps (2023– )

Fun but not Goosebumps
16 October 2023
I am 38 years old, the original Goosebumps books and TV show were in my prime. I enjoyed them and Fear Street as I got older. I didn't mind the movies that came out a few years ago but nothing has been "Goosebumps" to me. This attempt is the same. Is it a halfway decent show that I can watch with my son to pass some time over the weekend. They definitely called it "Goosebumps" to get more viewers but it is not really Goosebumps. They took some inspiration from some of the books and wrapped it into 1 series. I do have to say that as a gay man, I am finding the "check boxes" to get a little old. It is nice to see characters who resemble everyone, the gay kid with a straight best friend combo was cool BUT the stereotypes are getting a bit old. Not every gay kid is androgenous or flamboyant. It would be nice to see these characters but with a little less of the stereotypes. Aside from that, I've definitely seen worse things on TV.

Kerry Washington is playing a CHARACTER...
31 March 2020
So I've never left a review here before but I always look at them. I kept seeing ads for this show as I've been quarantining and binging old shows on Hulu. I like both Reese and Kerry and got vibes of Reese's most recent show Big Little Lies. I came to check out the reviews to see if it was interesting to others. What I saw was a lot of comments on how horrible Kerry's acting was but everything else was good. Mind you, I've never read the book, so I'm basing this solely off the 4 episodes I watched last night. I think Kerry is playing the role perfectly, a black single mother trying to survive in the 90's in suburbia, and not trusting anyone. I'm sure there is more to her character's story that hasn't been revealed yet, and since I haven't read the books, I can't compare. From what I'm gathering people aren't liking the character Kerry is portraying. Any way, I think it's great show thus far, I know it's limited but I'm already hoping they'll find a way to continue it. Looking forward to the next episode!
