Mamma Mia! (2008)
Wonderful nostalgia
It's so amazing to see the chemistry between Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan, her performance as Donna is so cool, cheerful, full of life and also touching but not overwhelming, she raised her daughter Sophy as a single mom struggling with financial issues but never lose faith and optimism managing a small resort place somewhere in the mystic Greece. I enjoyed to watch this movie with one of my best friends, both of us are married and have family, we shared a little space of time for going to the movies and have a good time with Mamma Mia, we sang, we laughed and we also remembered wonderful times with those timeless songs of Abba. Excellent choice with Meryl Streep, I can't imagine this film without her and Pierce Brosnan was surprising when he sang.
The Notebook (2004)
True love until the end
I was so touched with this film, Noah and Ally are from different social environments, but they are meant to be together, they weren't the perfect couple, they often shouted and fought, but there was no lack of respect but there were passion, desperation and a great need for being together. There were circumstances that could affect them and separated them, but fate is working for them. When Ally got engaged with that charming and rich young gentleman from the South, she thought that she would be happy and settle down, but when she saw Noah and his dream house on the newspaper, she was shocked and fainted, so she decided to go there and clarify her feelings for Noah. Finally, they stayed together until they died of natural causes, it was so tuneful to see old Noah was so caring with her very ill wife, he was so patient and loving, he used to read "the notebook" to get in touch with her and have a connection, even it lasted less than five minutes, when she recognized him, he treasured this moment with her and finally when they passed away they could be together without boundaries, sickness and suffering. I did really enjoyed it, Ryan Gosling and Rachel Mc Addams has a wonderful love chemistry.
Little Darlings (1980)
The first time wasn't the wonderful one
Oh my God! It's a shame I couldn't have rented it neither on VHS nor DVD, the only time I watched it was in the movies, the film is about the rivalry and the competition for becoming the "first woman", a race to loose the virginity and fulfill the transition from being a a girl to be a "grown up girl" in the camping, even Tatum O'Neal was the star of the movie, Kristy McNichol's performance was so terrific and amazing, I was touched with her performance because her first time disappointed her and in a second she showed in her expression face: What did I do? it was terrible, it wasn't as cool as I thought and finally she realized that she could have waited or the first wasn't a big deal when it was made with rush an too many expectations, then she wasn't ready for that crucial experience. So 27 years later, the subject still matters about the first time, but there is a big difference, in the beginning of eighties there was innocence and no fears about sexual transmission diseases and NOW the teenagers are in really danger with AIDS, Hepatitis and other diseases, comparing this film with updated teens movies, those years won't be back anymore.
Boys and Girls (2000)
Deja vu with other film? Guess what?
This film reminds me another one: "When Harry met Sally" with Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan, a friendship between them for many years, with ups and downs, with different couples and respective break-ups and finally they found out they were meant one for each other that they are perfectly together in love. But this latest one with Freddy Prinze Jr and Claire Forlani is funny, touching and sweet too, the formula worked and they had love chemistry on screen, Freddy's character is more serious and a little nerdy and Claire's character is outgoing, strong-minded, impulsive, enjoying life day to day, but anyway they were the right couple in the end.
Steve McQueen: The Essence of Cool (2005)
Unforgettable Steve
This documentary is nostalgic and let us remember him as the way he was: the real fast and furious, but wonderful macho man on the screen, he often wanted to show everybody he was the strongest, the best, the most fearless and the bravest guy in the world, sometimes against the world, sometimes against the stablisment, sometimes against the unjustice, he was an example to many how to face adversity, no matter how tough the problems seemed to be, he tried to get over them and during his fifty years of live in this world, he lived in his own way and we'll always miss him, including new generations of fans and fortunately we can watch his films on TV and dvds.
Seinfeld (1989)
I can't stop watching Seinfeld reruns
It's incredible the combination of main four characters: Seinfeld, George Constanza (demanding for attention and recognition), Elaine(material, selfish and voluble) and Kramer (funny, goofy and good nature fellow), the show has a bit of neurotic, lots of humor came from unexpected situations and happenings, looking sometimes for true love but too perfectionist to accept anybody maybe because of fear of commitment and every episode is surprising, although the guess actors and actresses and other support characters (Seinfeld's lovely typical Jewish parents, George's father who is grouchy and his old fashioned wife), anybody has a special appearance and part of this show and it's one of the best sitcoms I have ever seen.
Lord of War (2005)
Violence is the queen of the war
The main character played by Nicolas Cage as Yuri Orlov is an in migrant who tried to follow the American dream: to get his own success and prosperity, but without academic basis, neither a professional career, he got desperate and thought he found the magic road to richness: dealing and selling arms under the water and the main customers were corrupt political leaders and ambitious people with no remorse and no values. He lied to the love of his life, got married with her and acted as an active business man, he led his younger brother to drugs and death and finally he ended as an insignificant insect in the spider web of his actions.
Miracle in the Woods (1997)
A touching film that melts your heart
There is no a leading actress here, it's a wonderful team of characters that are connected to each other. For one side, two sisters who are estranged because they used to think and live in a different way, one is living in town and the other one in a city, whose husband is in a legal battle and she wants to sell the family land for getting the money and being able to help him, so Sarah and her daughter visited Wanda and try to convince her to do it. But there is a mysterious and lovely tenant named Lilly Cooper, who is an old and nice woman interpreted by Della Reese, she had a hard life, with an abusive husband, but the love of her life was her son and she lost him when she was young, but she never forgot him. So Wanda is not agree to sell the land because she doesn't want to get Lilly away from her little cottage. At the end, there was a surprise that Lilly was owner of the land she had her cottage and with the help of Sarah, who had changed her mind and decided to help Lilly to find her son. Thanks Heaven she could see her son and was able to meet him before the operation but unfortunately she didn't make it, she was too ill and she died. The power of love and forgiveness is present in this film.
