Gone with the Wind (1939)
Review of "Gone With the Wind"
The first colour film that began the "event" motion picture. In terms of ticket sales this film has never been matched to date. This film may be a little theatrical but on the whole it grips you to the end with its performances and storytelling.
Clark gable and Vivien Leigh will be forever remembered for their roles, even though they produced a number of memorable performances in other films.
When you consider what "event" motion pictures look like today with special effects and superhero themes, it's quite incredible that a dramatic piece, set in the past, with a serious element to it and character driven, can become the most successful movie ever released.
And remember that's not the highest grossing film ever, it's the one thats sold the most tickets, which is the real test of a movie's success.
