Sup with Season 4?
14 December 2023
I've enjoyed these characters and stories more than pretty much all other DC universe entertainment. They're weird, relatable, funny, and complex. The story for the first three seasons kept things interesting, but I'm really having trouble following or finding anything interesting in the fourth season. My SO will watch anything and she's just about given up after watching 3 1/2 seasons. I'm invested in wrapping it up, but it's disappointing to see things end in such a lackluster whimper. S4 comes with a musical episode - a telltale sign that a series has run out of ideas. Not sure if this is staying true to the source or they're trying to be deeply satirical but it's all falling flat in the end. Bummer. First three seasons were cool.

A Hallmark Movie with Tom Hanks
2 March 2023
Tom Hanks? Grumpy guy learns to love again? This sounded like a great recipe for a fun and heartwarming film. Instead, this is like giving wagyu beef to a fast food line cook and still expecting a five star meal.

Absolutely awful writing, with cartoonish acting from almost everyone but Hanks, and an extremely cliche and predictable plot. It has all the makings of a fleeting Hallmark channel film that probably would've flown under the radar were it not for the star attraction of Hanks.

The sad part is there's a good story beneath the all the cheese, and the whole time you're watching this, you can see that even small changes would have salvaged this wreck, but unfortunately this thing just lost direction, opted to treat the viewer as a total moron, and made the most obvious and cheesy decisions throughout. It really puts the 'b' in subtle.

A Neutral Viewer's Experience

Never read the comics nor do I get enraged by or care about so-called "woke" agendas. I was pulled in by the first half of the series, but it seemed to lose focus, urgency, and even quality towards the back half. I became thoroughly confused by the constant rotation of complex characters and a shifting plot, each of which never seemed to be explained properly. By the end, I found myself at a loss for why I should care about the outcome for any character, and really wasn't even interested in what happened in general. Might be faithful and fun for followers of the source material, but definitely not an enticing introduction to outsiders. And I tend to be a fan of Gaiman's stories!
