Mei shao nian zhi lian (1998)
Please Rent or Buy This Movie!!!
I rented this movie at my local video store that carries unique and hard to find video's. I had no idea particuliarly what it was about other than the cover discription. But I was in one of those moods to see a foreign film, something with subtitles so I rented it. First of all, I was taken with the opening sequence which showed the main character strut like a beautiful panther down the street and sat mezmerized through out the rest of the movie. The actors are beautiful and stunning, eye candy of course, but with good solid acting behind the pretty faces. Being beautiful is often a curse. People often cannot see beyond the beauty to see the substance. There is substance behind the characters as they were written, and substance behind the actors performances. The story is a sweet and beautifully filmed love story with a wonderfully appropiate score. If you were once beautiful or if you have ever been truly in love you will really love this movie. For me, it was bittersweet.

Second Chance (1972)
31 Years After It Aired I Remember It Well
I was suprised to stumble across this show. I remember when it was originally on, considering that I was only 9 years old at the time says a whole lot. The basic plot was that there was a town called second chance where people could move to who wanted a second shot in life. Racism was not allowed, and I remember there was an incident where one of the residents made a racist remark and another took umbrage. I remember that it was a little over my head at the time, but enjoyable all the same. I also remember at the time my family watched it because it had "colored people" on it.
The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman (1974)
Perfect Television!!!!
This movie was perfect! I cannot think of one bad thing to say about it! Ms. Tyson is brilliant and without doubt deserved the Emmy Award she received. The cast is perfect, the script is perfect, the score is perfect. I saw it when it first came out and watched it again recently. Touching!
J.T. (1969)
I Can't believe I stubled upon this one!!!!
I remember seeing this as a child. Back then, if anything with black people were on t.v., most black people watched it! This was an excellent movie, I remember watching it for several years, and crying as a child over it's ending. I wish this were availible on DVD, I would buy it in a second!
The Queens of Comedy (2001)
Overall This was funny...BUT...
I really enjoyed this show. Almost all of the ladies were hilarious! The only one i took issue with was Monique, I just didn't see much talent there! Though occasionally she would say something funny, her dialogue consisted mostly of swearing (Which I have nothing against!) and very little real talent or actual material to cover herself. Kind of like when we were kids and cursed so we could appear grown up. Monique seemed to cuss to cover up a true lack of talent! i could have also done without her Prejudiced remarks! A true comedian will have to talent to be funny not at the expense of others! If it weren't for her performance (And I am ONLY basing this on her performance!) I would have given this show a 10. Instead I give it a seven.
Not Without My Daughter (1991)
What's all the fuss about!!!!!
I saw this movie quite some time ago and enjoyed it. It did not leave me with a negative image of Iranians, Islam or Persia at all. I saw it as a simple story of mother trying to do what was best for her daughter. Not wanting ones daughter to be a second class citizen in my own opinion does not warrant the hostility I have seen portrayed in the previous comments. Sally Fields performance was certainly good. The movie told the story from the wifes/mothers point of view. I found that the movie showed just cause why the husband would become disenchanted with the USA. I can completely understand why he would like to return to his home. After all there is no place like home. My sympathy however with the husband left me when I saw the deception he displayed keeping his American family in Iran. This movie, though flawed was well worth viewing.
Steel Magnolias (1989)
One of my all-time favorite movies!!!
I won't review the plot, that has been done many times so far, This movie is a gem!!!! A perfect 10, funny moving and georgeous all at the same time. The score is one of the best I have ever seen in a movie. The composer resisted the temptation to go with regional music and composed a score that was lush, full and totally appropiate. See this movie! By the way I am not a chick :)
Diana Ross Live! The Lady Sings... Jazz & Blues: Stolen Moments (1992)
Excellent, a must see!!!!!
I was quite surprised that I enjoyed this so much! I have seen Diana Ross perform these songs many times but she really outshines herself. Quite often the elegance and star quality of Diana Ross often outshines the fact that this woman can really sing. It is fitting that the woman who carries the torch for the songs of Billie Holiday being featured in this video. Buy it, you won't regret it!
The Scorpion King (2002)
The Rock Lays an Egg!
There is nothing about this movie that I can recommend at all. I went to this movie with very low expectations. What was delivered was even worse. Awfull acting, awfull plot, awfull story. Not even good eye candy.
A Matter of Size (1983)
An A-One Production
One of the first grade A productions of gay porn. Production values are fantastic, the guys good looking and a few suprises. Straight porn actor Peter North performing as Matt Ramsey gives a performance that will shock fans of straight porno! A must see movie!
VH1 Divas 2000: A Tribute to Diana Ross (2000)
Diana Ross Diva Supreme!
This performance more than probably anything else shows why Diana Ross is reigning Diva of all. Her performance is stunning along with guests who pay tribute. The duets with Mariah Carey are stunning because it shows from whence it came and where it is going. Don't miss this one! Five stars for this one a perfect 10!
An Evening with Patti LuPone (1997)
Broadway Diva In Top Form!
Broadway Diva Patti Lupone is in top form in this tour-de-force. Going through the list of songs she is most famous for, she is in top vocal form. One of the few performers in the genre who sounds as good live as on recordings. A definite 5 star performance not to be missed!
Big Eden (2000)
What a wonderful Movie!!!
I want to move to Big Eden! This is one of the best gay movies I have ever seen. I saw it when it played in the theaters and couldn't wait for the DVD to come out. I was not disapointed, the DVD contains a whole disc of extra's and they didn't charge more for it either. Gay movies rarely have a happy ending, this one does, I can not recommend it more highly, see this movie!
It's in the Water (1997)
An awful movie!!!!!!!
This is one of the worst Gay or Lesbian movies I have ever seen! One cliche after another right down to horribly offensive stereotypes of both gay male and African Americans. The gay male characters are Badly acted, simpering wimpering, the black maid is right out of an Amos and Andy TV show. The only characters that seem even remotely believeable are the Lesbian characters, and even they are a stretch. The end of course features a simply awful black church choir (How's that for a stereotype in a movie)singing one of dem good ol gopel songs. Do not rent this movie!
