Snowpiercer (2020)
Kinda jumped the shark there
My score was originally a nine for the first two seasons but lowering it to a seven because season 3's writing is just really bad all round. It's such a shame too because there could've been some interesting plot lines set up but instead each character just passes the idiot ball to each other just so the plot can advance. World building is still alright but the show needs to be better before my rating lowers.
Adventure Time: Son of Rap Bear (2017)
Pretty fun episode
Just watched this episode and although it was decent and entertaining enough, I feel like the wackiness would've benefited more as an early season episode, maybe even during the time when Finn and Flame Princess were still together. Honestly, the whole tone of it felt really off with other episodes in the final season.
Still, there's nothing too bad about watching a musical episode except with family friendly rap battles instead.
Adventure Time: Ketchup (2017)
Wholesome
After two miniseries back-to-back, it's refreshing to see a lighthearted yet powerful episode explore the aftermaths of such adventures through the eyes of two of the best secondary characters, Marceline and BMO. Sure, there's not much going on in this episode but it doesn't have to be like that here. What makes this episode so great is how each of them catch up (hence the pun) by telling their experiences from the past couple of episodes, accompanied by a different art style that showcases their personality.
Adventure Time: The Red Throne (2014)
Finn at his cringiest
Just when you thought the Finn love triangle couldn't get any worse, we come to an episode of Finn trying so hard to get back together with Flame Princess in the worst ways possible. I get he's still trying to recover from his breakup but there is a limit of believability and absurdness that Adventure Time can take. And this episode just broke it in a bad way.
If there's anything I did like about this episode, is that we got to see Cinnamon Bun again .
Adventure Time: Mystery Dungeon (2013)
Very funny
One of the funniest episodes of Adventure Time I've seen so far. What makes this so great is the interactions between the five characters stuck in the dungeon and how they play off each other. In general, it just shows how not every episode has to be deep and with the layers of jokes piled on in its eleven minute entirety, it's truly an underrated gem.
Adventure Time: Marceline's Closet (2011)
A bottle/closet episode
An underrated Adventure Time episode that doesn't need deep lore or strong backstory. It's just a mindless fun plot about Finn and Jake hiding in Marceline's house with plenty of funny jokes scattered throughout the whole episode.
Adventure Time: Thank You (2011)
Thanks
It's crazy how many times this show has managed to make me feel deep connections to the characters. I think it's well written and the voice acting is really good. However, what makes this episode special is that it doesn't focus on Finn and Jake or any of the side characters we've seen before. Instead, it takes a plunge into someone completely new that we haven't seen before and we follow their story. It's a fresh story the writers have tackled and it's one that is delivered without much dialogue yet through the conveyed emotions.
This is a prime example of powerful storytelling done right, and it's in a kids cartoon. That's how amazing it really is.
Adventure Time: What Was Missing (2011)
Musical Madness
It's unfair that every episode involving Marceline is absolutely amazing but damn I love this episode so much. It involves Finn, Jake, Princess Bubblegum and Marceline forming a band to open a magical door but things don't go as planned. However, despite the basic plot, the reason why it's simply incredible is because of the interactions between the four characters and the amount of emotion on display.
Not only do we get to delve deeper into Bubblegum's and Marceline's relation to each other, we also get to see their feelings come out in song form. Seriously, the songs in this episode are absolute fire and the vocals from the cast elevate an already awesome episode. If there's one Adventure Time episode I recommend, it's this one for sure.
Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake (2011)
Set in an alternate universe
The episode idea of Fionna and Cake may have already been done to death in other animated series but the way it is handled is Adventure Time is incredibly fun. There are slight changes to the characters besides the obvious such as Fionna being older to accommodate the plot but that gives the characters depth and uniqueness rather than just them being carbon copies of their canon counterparts.
Overall, one of the best Adventure Time episodes to watch on a down day.
Adventure Time: Susan Strong (2011)
Really important episode
I really liked this episode not only because it highlights Finn's status as the only human left seemingly alive but it teases its viewer with the possibility that Susan might actually be human after all in the episode's ending. It opens up a whole new level on Finn's character without it coming off as an important episode and that is what makes it great. Also, it was funny.
Kinne Tonight (2019)
Poor Man's SNL
Predictable and shallow humour that relies way too much on swearing and being 'relatable'. Occasionally there's a skit that gets a slight chuckle from me but most of the time, I'm sitting there thinking "What the hell is this?". It's loud and way too obnoxious for good comedy and usually they drag their jokes for way too long without changing the formula.
Adventure Time: It Came from the Nightosphere (2010)
Solid start to the Second Season
I'm impressed with this episode and it's made even more awesome that it's a Marceline and Finn episode. We get to explore a little bit more of Marceline's backstory here and get to see her dad and the relationship between them. Besides that, it's worth noting that this is the first episode where Jake doesn't appear at all (until the end) so it gives more character development between Finn and Marceline. Overall, a pretty solid episode!
Adventure Time: Freak City (2010)
Really didn't like this episode
Honestly, this episode felt really lacklustre and kind-of mean spirited. The introduction to Magic Man as a character was clearly an attempt to subvert the "help people" Aesop you see in other kids shows but it just wasn't satisfying to watch. It's such a shame considering it was solo written by the person who breathed this imaginative show to life.
Adventure Time: My Two Favorite People (2010)
Finn and Lady Rainicorn hang out
This episode was pretty fun to watch and it shows the dynamics between Jake, Finn and Lady Rainicorn's personalities. For me, I liked how the three of them reacted and also Jake's conflict here as a sort-of reversal of roles with Jake usually being the responsible one of the duo. Cool episode, definitely one I'd love to watch again!
Adventure Time: Tree Trunks (2010)
Crazy Trunks
I just love how crazy weird this episode gets and with Tree Trunks' first appearance in the entire series, it's quite hilarious how her calm demeanour contrast to the more outlandish and hostile creatures. Honestly, a really good episode all the way through!
Adventure Time: The Enchiridion! (2010)
Going through Finn's many trials
It's a fun and lighthearted episode about our protagonist going on a quest to retrieve something from a princess. The interactions between him, Jake and the many creatures he meets in this episode are nothing short of hilarious and it really represents the show as a whole. The jokes here also work amazingly!
Overall, a really solid episode.
Adventure Time: Trouble in Lumpy Space (2010)
Lumpy Space Wonders
This was a pretty funny episode even though I think LSP is one of the most annoying characters on the show. Most of the jokes landed and crazily enough the plot worked really well. It's a really hilarious episode from start to finish!
Adventure Time: Slumber Party Panic (2010)
Party not a Panic
"Slumber Party Panic" is a pilot episode that doesn't provide a expository backstory but it doesn't have to because in these 11 minutes alone, we can already quickly get a sense for what the show is going to be like. We're introduced to Finn and Princess Bubblegum who both have different personalities. The plot alone isn't necessarily one to write home about but it's entertaining enough for me to enjoy. Nice episode.
Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel (2009)
Very meh
So forgettable of a sequel that I already forgot what the plot was by the time I was finished watching other than the fact that it has girl chipmunks in it.
Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045 (2020)
It's simply boring
I expected something better but this time, it's exactly as predictable as it looks. It's boring, convoluted and the CGI looks extremely ugly. It's hilarious how the Scarlet Johansson film is better than this Netflix garbage.
The Secrets She Keeps (2020)
Girl steals baby, that's literally it.
During the six episodes of this awful and boring show, I was always wondering why I kept watching this. Was it because I secretly hoped the plot would move more quickly? Probably, but it's disappointing to see this so hyped up on channel ten only for the actual show to be a paper-thin plot that could be easily explained by a couple of commercials. Oh wait, they did.
If there's one thing I could say positively about this is that most of the actors was pretty alright, even though the cast was as diverse as the contestants on The Bachelor and the writing wasn't as cringe-inducing to the point where its memed to death by Masterchef fans just from the advertisements alone.
Honestly, The Secrets She Keep could've been a really exciting thriller as promised but instead, it felt like another generic Australian drama. And let's face it, people only watched this show because of Masterchef so kudos on them for tricking me into thinking I was watching a good show.
Love, Death & Robots: Sucker of Souls (2019)
Feels like generic cookie-cutter anime
Ignoring the fact that this episode has nothing to do with love, robots and very little to do with death, Sucker of Souls is a short that doesn't go anywhere other than a ridiculously basic plot that would get nerdy teenagers seething. It just starts and ends without any substance between it. Skip this.
Final Space (2018)
It's like Rick and Morty but it isn't
The first season was amazing to watch, and honestly it should've ended there with a depressing ending. However, the second season's episodes haven't quite kept up in quality, leaving it feeling a bit less than top notch and sacrificing comedy for deep and enriched worldbuilding. There were consequences to the actions in season 1 and to have that be undone in season 2 feels like a huge copout.
Still, it's enjoyable to watch and it's way better than most of the other adult animated shows that try to emulate that "ha ha they swear" joke a thousand times.
Divergent (2014)
Sequels Unnecessary
I think it could've worked as a standalone movie but damn, this does have some worldbuilding and character issues that ruin the immersion of the story. It's just filled with tired dystopian tropes that have been done in better movies before this. Honestly, just watch The Hunger Games, it's miles better than this mediocre movie.
The Hollow (2018)
Meh
It has potential but the animation looks so gosh darn ugly and outdated, as if it belongs back in the 2000s. The plot is there as well and some sort of cohesion is present but the writers really suck at coming up with endings. Hopefully they just stick to just two seasons only.
