Camping (2018)
There is David Tennant and a Karen
What was wrong with Jennifer Garner's character? Why was she such a Karen? To be honest, my anxiety kept on going up and up every time she was rude to someone. And then there was poor Walt- gosh my heart breaks for that character., definitely played amazingly by David Tennant he brought a life to the show with Julliete Lewis which Karen kept on sucking away.
Gosh, apart from that- it was extremely painful to watch.
Criminal: UK: Edgar (2019)
I keep coming back to this episode
For the first eighteen and a half minutes, this person sitting in front of the investigators keeps a stone cold face and has just one thing to say- yeah, we all know what it is. And, many people I have seen did not like it.
But I feel after many, many watches that he was building his own case around what the investigators were implying he did. He was carefully considering on what to say and what not- and this is what the all seeing boss says too- if there is anybody who can bring him down is himself.
By God, how horrified I was with what had happened with the girl, I started believing Edgar, his story- it all felt so true. And, bam- I never saw that ending coming with plaster. At last, he brought his own doom by talking. I thought, man he should have just stick with 'No comment'.
And honestly, there is something with David Tennant's acting that makes me come back again and again to this episode for many re-watches. He is just peaking, with a wide range of characters he is playing- he is just amazing! I am literally hoping to see him in a lot of mainstream or even in super complex stories. I literally don't mind the negative side because he is doing an amazing job considering he mostly played goofy characters!
This was the first ever Criminal episode I had ever watched and now I cannot just stop watching all the rest.
Recovery (2007)
A painful trip towards recovery
I just feel sometimes that I wish I had not watched this film, but I am so happy I did. I say so, because- what they show is painfully correct. From not knowing what is happening to yourself to trying to run away from it, giving up but not entirely because it feels there might still be hope of everything returning to its normal is what the entire movie is about.
In this movie, you will see a man/husband/father/friend/son clueless and confused about why things are the way they have become. You will see an equally clueless and angry wife because she is unable to control how the things are. The children have their own paths to understand the circumstances and that they might never get their father back. It is beautiful and it all feels very true- like they weren't acting.
The movie moves towards the end like it would just go bad and bad(for the family- not movie), you see the catharsis and the ending you want to see. It is not actually a happy ending, but it is an ending which is most realistic like a slower path- just trying to get back the life together.
My favourite scenes are definitely at the end, where Alan(played amazingly by David Tennant- man I keep falling in love with his acting again and again) tells his son about a long term memory and now how his future depends on what he does. That he will be the one in the big orange car now and his son has to be his father half the time. And he even says the most dad thing he could say in front of the entire dorm-"Don't get chlamydia!" And, of course the penultimate scene with an amazing song in the background, how Alan breaks down in front of his wife and how he wants to conquer the monsters.
It is definitely a must watch because it is so rare these days for such movies to even exist.
Single Father (2010)
Coping through loss
When I dived into the series, I was expecting two things. Number one, amazing acting of David Tennant and number two being how would they show people coping a personal loss.
I am satisfied but actually more than satisfied, in fact in awe of David Tennant's capabilities through wide range of emotions. But, my second motive failed. It could be the fact that, there is a huge leap from Rita's death and the consequent scenes- a total 10 weeks, but for us, the viewers, it was just mere 10 seconds. We do not see the entire pain and what and how they all got together, to feel it is okay for Dave to move on.
As I said, I thought the show would be about coming to terms with a dead person's passing but it was my fault which I read later that it is about finding love at a time which society deems incorrect or when one should not fall in love.
I loved the acting, everyone's even the children's but the story picks up the wrong theme after the first episode, it is about finding the lost father or whether to tell her boyfriend that she might be in love with her dead best friend's partner. It felt, it went side track. We miss the reasons behind Ewan's real reason to get attention, Paul's search for God, little Evie seeing her dad in bed with someone else(for which I had to close my eyes- god that was so embarrassing- lock the damn door!) or the discussion of Tanya's pain about being thrown around as a baby-sitter(btw, her catharsis at end is well deserved). Alas, the show jumps to wrong ends, but still I will give 9 stars because it kept me hooked and I did want to finish it through. Just the pace of leaps threw me off guard. But the series really showed well the relationship between Lucy and her step-father, her dialogue- Stuart being her father but Dave being her dad was just moving!
Maybe it is in the final episode that he finally is okay with his partner's passing and scenes as such would have been what I would have needed more. What he is feeling, at least a scene in each episode to keep the continuity of the pain they are going through. Also, the new child concept should not have been brought through in the end, they should have just got together for us to know it was a happy ending.
My favourite scene was when Dave speeds through the city in hope he gets caught by the police, but when he does- he does not utter a single word to them- but cries at the side of the road.
Jane the Virgin (2014)
5.4 stars for the first 54 episodes that made sense
I began watching this series with no expectations. None at all. But as the episodes went on I fell for the story a little more every episode. There was importance of family, drama, a crime thriller in the backgrounds and amazing actors and story upfront. Not to forget the strong female characters even including Petra, Magda, Luisa and Rose.
Everything was going good, until one day the writers decided to kill off the one person who made most sense to the show, Michael. I maybe a #teamMichael but please listen me on this. It made no sense when they let this happen, there was no context and only leaves a huge hole with this sudden death. And the next moment thereafter we are forced to know the problems Jane has to go through with at her son's school and love life. I understand throughout the next few episodes we see some parts of the grief which I grieved with her too but for me it felt the writers were just trying to negate this one man entirely off the show.
After Michael's death, we are forced to worry about Marbella, love life of Rafael, Rogelio's career and tries and trials of everyone else. It all seemed forced. Which stopped interest me at all. But, I still had 46 episodes to go which I did watch but with a finger on the fast forward 10 seconds button. Nothing made sense.
Like, how could they suddenly erase Sin Rostro/Rose importance which was the crux from the first season?
- How did Jane be okay with everything when because of Rafael's family her life became upside down and she lost the man she loved and clearly chose?
- Why was Mateo's input necessary so much on the decisions Jane had to make?
And finally, why oh why, for the god's sake they would bring back the man who died to kill him again? This time his complete character arc. They just destroyed a character but first tried to push and force so much on to the audience that Jane and Michael are no longer compatible. And, in the end they try to justify it by putting him together with his ranch neighbor? Are you serious? Is that enough?
Oh god, end the entire drama with 6 Roses in the end which leads to nothing like any horse crap I have never seen. In short, they murdered a good character, a really good villain and the entire story after the first 54 episodes. Because for some reason Jane does not raise any voice on why she is okay with Rose destroying her completely okay married life with her best friend.
Sorry, everything in the end just felt so forced and gave me so much anxiety. Believe me, I tried so hard, I really did. But from the beginning to the very end I could only see Rafael as an entitled brat who just wanted to have Jane somehow. And in the end, the writers made sure the heroine ends up with the rich handsome guy.
Dark (2017)
Season 3 Finale: The best ending to any show
I remember being reluctant to watch this show in 2019 when my friend suggested because she believed this show was better than Stranger Things and I was not ready to be okay with that, but now I say it, there is no comparison between the two shows and this series is super brainy and mind bending than any other show out there.
Though I had to go through many sites and videos on the Youtube to understand the relations between the character before watching the third season, it was a treat. As the show progresses towards the end, we actually see the knots untying(though they are unable to :P) . One will experience the crescendo on S3 E7, that is it, that is the point everything becomes clear to the viewer, every step till then is a revelation, the viewer will be watching and understanding the underlying cause and effect and family tree till then.
S3 E8 starts on very quiet note, it keeps you tied to your seat, you really want to know whether this time there will be a change. Like me, I was praying that this time everything works alright. From starting we were left to guess who is good and who is bad, but in the end there is no such dichotomy except for pain.
One of the best things about this series is that, each character has an arc that develops, rather very ingeniously. You will be rooting for each character's development and connect to their pain.
Then ending of the show was very beautiful and extremely thought through too. As mentioned in the title, this is the best ending I have ever seen of a series. They knew where to stop. I am glad and thankful to my friend who forced me to watch the show.
Dark actually made me fall in love with German and I am now learning it!
Venky Mama (2019)
Everything's bad
I decided to watch this movie with my family, there, that was the mistake I made. When watching so, I cannot fast forward over the illogical, irrelevant and stupid scenes and sequences. My dad dozed off after the first twenty minutes. The movie was so cliche- it was embarrassing to watch. There was no story at all- I decided to not write this because every other person wrote the same sentence in their review but I want to emphasise it. To tell the truth, the acting was mediocre and I say this when I have seen all the actors of the movie do better job in other movies. There was no point of having the actresses in the movie except for having them and songs. I give this 3/10 stars because the location selections for example Kashmir or the green fields(fest to eyes) of Telugu land, also for those few scenes that managed to bring attention to the screen from my phone. Very disappointing, please pass on this one and watch a better movie like Kshanam.
Gulabo Sitabo (2020)
Only a one-time watch movie.
Was anticipating for this movie for a long time. Finally decided to watch it yesterday. To tell the truth, it was very disappointing, the comedy was good, but it dragged on for so long. I remember at some point I checked the duration and thought, woahh it is a long movie. They literally made the movie around one single point. There were many scenes that unnecessary and I hoped I was not watching this with my parents, else I would have been fast forwarding it all the time. I have seen really good movies in the lockdown and this one definitely does not get a place in that list.
