The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)
Great Characters, But Not a Great Plot
I love Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man, and all the other actors here are also incredible (notably Emma Stone). I think the main reason this movie falls short is the plot. It isn't necessarily poorly written. It's just unoriginal. However, Garfield's performance almost makes up for it, and that is what makes this movie a very underrated Spider-Man movie. I feel this way especially after watching No Way Home!
Also, the main villain is scary UNTIL he reaches his final form as a lizard. Then he is loses all of his scariness to the CGI that really didn't age well.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
Good the First Time...Phenominal the Second!
The first time I saw this I really enjoyed it. The acting is solid and the story is well written. However, when I watched it again right after re-watching the prequels, it was all the more powerful and satisfying. It is the bridge that the series has been needing between the prequels and the original movies.
Basically, in my opinion this mini-series has been needing to happen for over a decade.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
Very Intense But Some of the Best of Marvel
The first part of the movie felt more like a regular Marvel movie. Then, around the halfway point, it suddenly dove head-first into insanity! This is a good thing in my opinion, though. I love the new territory the MCU has been exploring in phase 4 (particularly the sifi/horror of late). It really worked in this movie, and I highly recommend it!
Men in Black II (2002)
The Best of the Three
I honestly don't understand why there are so many bad reviews for this one. It is just as good (if not better) than the first one. While the first one laid the groundwork for the story, this one took it to the next level. I like how both of the main characters are developed more in this one, and the wacky-goofiness (the thing I like most about these movies) is at it's peak in this one. Again, I don't understand the hate. This one has always been my favorite of the Men In Black movies.
Ying xiong (2002)
A Masterpiece in This Genre
I grew up in China (as an American) and because of that I had a steady diet of this genre of movie. After all these years, I can say without a doubt that Hero is the best of the best! Everything about the cultural aspect (everything about this movie is very Chinese!), the color schemes, the production, the characters, and the music is perfection! I even loved this movie as a kid in the early 2000s when it first came out. It's a complete masterpiece!
Moon Knight: The Goldfish Problem (2022)
Very off putting...in a good way
This episode was full of jump scares and anxiety-laden throughout! I had no idea what I was watching. Yet somehow it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time, so I guess it was a good start to the series.
Incredible acting and very well put together! I just hope all my questions get answered as the series goes on.
Moon Knight: Summon the Suit (2022)
Made much more sense that the first episode.
I was very put off by the first episode as there was no sense of reality and no clarity to what was even happening. However, after seeing this episode I feel much better about where this series is going. It was a lot more grounded and made a lot more sense (though I still have a lot of questions). I'm looking forward to the next one!
Star Trek: The Next Generation: Violations (1992)
Very Disturbing
I'm surprised that more hasn't been said about this episode. It is by far the most disturbing Star Trek episode I have ever seen! There are so many trigger warnings, especially for people who may have been victims of sexual assault in the past. I also felt very dirty and icky inside after watching this episode. I never want to see it again!
This episode is not only unwatchable, but also very unnecessary to the TV show. If the purpose of "Violations" was to raise awareness to sexual assault, it failed miserably. All it succeeded in was making the viewing of this episode a very uncomfortable watching experience.
Don't waste your time on this one. There are far better Star Trek episodes to be watching.
The Incredible Hulk (2008)
Started out promising, but...
As someone who first watched this movie in 2021, I had heard both the good and bad reviews (and also had the other MCU movies to compare it to). As I watched the beginning, I was impressed and wondering why everyone hated this movie so much. The Hulk's first transformation was actually pretty scary! However, as the movie went on I became less and less interested.
Yes, there were still some good scenes (the scene where he is transforming into the hulk while being administered the antidote is one of the more notable). However, the love story felt kind of pointless (especially after seeing the ending), and the lack of Hulk throughout the rest of the movie was disappointing. I was waiting the whole time for the supposedly epic battle between Hulk and Abomination at the end, though.
Well, it came and went and I was very underwhelmed. Though the CGI was good for the time, it really didn't age well! They looked too cartoony, and both were very ugly to look at. It just wasn't fun to watch, and nothing was really special about it.
I'm conclusions: it started out promising, but that only lasted for the first half of the movie. It quickly went down hill, and with how disappointed I was in the climax, I won't recommend this movie to anyone now.
