Frankenhooker (1990)
A very well-grounded social critique done in a very fun way
Jeffrey perceives himself as having dominion over Elizabeth's existence, and his extreme objectification of her leads him to assume responsibility not just for resurrecting her, disregarding any of her potential wishes or opinions, but also for dictating how her body should be, now pieced together from the dismembered bodies of women objectified out of sheer survival necessity.
I don't see many people pointing out how much this movie exposes and plays with the reality of sex workers, denounces the manipulation of the lower classes through drug addiction, and uses the male gaze, domestic abuse, and the objectification of women as powerful elements for the plot. It's not an overstatement, although the film itself may indeed be exaggerated, and some may miss this due to its trashy style; it's actually a very well-grounded social critique presented in a highly entertaining way.
The Powerpuff Girls: Town and Out/Child Fearing (2000)
About the first segment
If we think about it, ''Town and Out'' shows how some stories and characters don't work if treated realistically. Sometimes the best direction is the simple and fun.
