Fleabag (2016)
Mixed bag
I found season 1 completely boring, not at all interesting or funny... was about to give up but friends who'd seen the entire thing made me keep going and I'm glad I did; season 2 is very good. Funny, heartwarming and entertaining. That said I still don't completely get the hype.
Reservation Dogs (2021)
What a gem
I loved every episode it had everything; The characters/ storylines/ dialogue was spot on. As well as being completely interesting throughout, I cried and laughed regularly! Heartwarming, incredibly sad and incredibly funny.
Derry Girls (2018)
Pretty dire
This show is terrible! Maybe it just caters to a younger audience and I was expecting too much but the writing is pitiful.
Usual repetitive characters - son/father in law relationship/ self-centred Aunt/ cross mother. Two of the girls are highly strung and pretty much have the same personality...I could go on...
Completely predictable dialogue which again is repetitive with very old jokes - James being gay etc.
For a sitcom to create unbelievable scenarios they need good dialogue to pull it off...this doesn't have it.
The religious portrayal is pretty pathetic too, trying to normalise a situation doesn't mean trivialising it; that's lazy writing to think that's all you have to do to make it funny.
To sum up; predictable, boring, not funny....2 stars for music which was amusing/ fun.
If you want some light hearted comedy watch: Moone boy, Young Offenders, Still Game, all pretty soft but still far superior to this bore.
Requiem for a Dream (2000)
Shockingly bad
Badly made film, terribly directed, terribly acted. So Burstyn is brilliant and she's the only saving grace in this terrible film. I've watched this when it's 20 years old, I can imagine it was more edgy when it came out, it's clearly dated and badly aged.... but given that Trainspotting was out 4 years prior and you can't even forgive it for that. If you want to see a real film about drugs, brilliantly directed/acted/story/score then just watch trainspotting.
Frasier (1993)
I still love it
Rewatching after 10 years and it still has me in stitches, best American comedy by far. It loses points because it gets silly towards the end like most series that go on a bit too long. And like everyone I hate Daphne's family, terrible characters.
Latte Igel und der magische Wasserstein (2019)
Mean
This is a mean and nasty film, the way the adult characters speak to the child characters makes you understand why the child characters are all bullies! The creatures all have a really mean spirited and negative attitude and at one point they make fun of another's accent! After that I turned it off, there was no message to be gained from this film let alone family-fun entertainment.
