Hear gun shots? Don't do this.
28 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Maybe as a city person this comes naturally to me. But if you are naive, I have one advice: If you hear gun shots, close and lock all doors and windows, close all drapes, and never, never ever, walk out of the front door.

So looking forward to the next season.

Warning: Spoilers
So we've come to a cross road, much like James. I mean, both figuratively and literally, we have come to a cross road. Just in case the audience is a little dense, we are provided with an aerial view of an actual cross road. No, not little country road, but two broad, practically highways, crossing each other. And James, stopping right at this cross road, has a decision to make. OK, no one is surprised by this decision. But this maybe the attraction of this comfortable little show.

No violence (well, there is bloody surgery like Dr. Pimple Popper except with a cow, and forceps delivery with a dog), no sex (unless you consider James putting the blanket on a sleeping Helen, sex). No one died (OK, a horse died). Somehow, I so look forward to each episode, and now, the next season.

Just a little quibble. When Helen's marriage did not go through, why was she sitting in the church all by herself? Wouldn't her father and her sister be sitting with her?

Did Morse look old in this one.
6 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Re-watched this as it's on TV. Nothing else to watch during lock down. Wow, did Morse look old in this one. I thought he was going to die of a heart attack climbing those stairs (yes, he did die of a heart attack, though much later). With his white hair ruffled and him breathing hard, he seemed to be 70 yrs old. And yet, he tried to date someone half his age. It's really cringe worthy. And then he perjured himself getting the woman a light sentence. The look on Lewis' face was priceless.

Warning: Spoilers
Complex plot based on Strangers on a Train. But the story did not explain why dragnot wanted his father dead. Also, did the police reveal the name of the suspect, knowing someone is going to do their dirty deed for them?

Interesting trivia.

Warning: Spoilers
Just re-watched this episode (shown in the US), and noticed that the music award was named the Endeavour Award. Obviously this was named after Morse. I don't know if the audience at that time even knew Morse's first name was Endeavour.

Male players would not have played against females.
20 November 2020
Just like in sports, male chess players would not have played females chess players. Probably not even now, top ranked male players would not play against females. Their reputation, their ego, would all have fall to the ground if they lose one match.

A little too much coincidence.

Warning: Spoilers
Overall I like this episode, esp. Mendoza. But what's unbelievable is how two of the murders happened. One, the guy happened to be standing at a spot where a swinging log can hit him in the head. Had he been one foot one way or another, the log would have missed him. Second, another guy happened to walked out and stopped where a falling stone statute hit him. Again, it's not like the murderer could've thrown the statute at him. He had to be standing right at a specific spot. So those are kind of negatives.

A very complex case with a very simple solution.
21 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I give the work up of this case an 8, and very complex case with a rather stunning solution. I just don't like how Morse came to the solution of the case. He by chance picked up a book at a police faire and a light bulb lit up? That's just too convenient.

A couple of red herrings that did not amount to anything also confused this viewer. The over-sexed maid, who might have something to do with the case, ended up with nothing.

Also the son who ran out in the middle of the night to dig up a corpse, knowing there were police all over the place? Not believable.

Morse tried to mess up another case.
21 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Morse cannot keep his personal feelings out of his cases, and he almost messed this up. Fortunately, the steady Lewis saved the case.

This was actually a complex case with an excellent ending. Morse' involvement was quite understandable. It's not another situation where he tried to date a much younger person who was deeply involved with a case.

So overall, I really like the ending.

Some red herrings were not resolved.
6 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
So let's start by suspending my disbelieve that a detective can up and travel half the world in search of a case without even telling his supervisor. In real life, this trip would have to go through so many levels of bureaucracy that Morse and Lewis would have retired before they could pack their bags.

Another laughable conversation was when Morse told the witness' wife that they have his "personal guarantee". I would have been rolling on the floor laughing at this "personal guarantee". He couldn't even find the witness.

And thirdly, the wife said they were always afraid of their safety. Yet her doors were always unlocked, and her children went about by themselves. Morse asked the local constable for personal protection. This guy was a one man operation overseeing 500 sq miles!

Anyway, who killed the witness? I still don't know, nor do I care.

Too short a season.

Warning: Spoilers
Don't they know we are all sheltering at home and needing entertainment? Why only 3 episodes? OK maybe we have come to expect too much of this show from the great start. It's still an excellent show, but not up to the high standards. Besides, they are solving 2 cases in one show.

Spoiler, I don't think Luda is dead. I think it'll be like Holmes and Moriarity, going for a final grand show down.

Also, I don't think the opera is La Traviata.

Don't know why I keep watching this.
9 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
It's getting worse and worse. Morse, as a chief inspector, should know better than to handle the potential murder weapon. But the first thing he did was to pick it up. This defies all reason. Then the first thing Morse decided was someone has an out for him. A woman is murdered, and it's all about Morse. How about trying to look for reason the woman was murdered.

What a stupid episode.
2 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Sorry I kind of like this show. But this episode is stupid. Morse not only latched on the wrong suspect with absolutely no evidence, but breaks the law for no results. There is a whole bunch of detectives assisting him in this case, but no one seems to know what they are doing.

Both the sequel (Inspector Lewis) and the prequel (Endeavour) to this show are 100% better.

Sorry never been a fan of Inspector Morse.

Warning: Spoilers
Yes, I have watching the series on public TV. I have never liked Morse, a mean drunk. He is mean to everyone, including Lewis, medical examiners, witnesses. He thinks he is intellectually superior because of his love of classical music and art. In contrast, the Lewis and the Endeavour series are both far better.

In any event, this particular episode has one of the worse productions, with weird camera angles and poor quality recordings. And Morse used a racist term to refer to the Japanese.

I give this a 3 star, only because there is nothing to watch during quarantine.

Too many holes.
1 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
OK, a large animal walking around leaves footprints. A whole bunch of detectives walking around could not detect any unusual footprints? Not believable.

Another thing, I know British police don't like to carry guns. But when you see a man eating tiger walking around, do you run after it empty handed? What's the plan? None that I can see.

All in all, not a satisfying episode.
