annoying film--just had to walk out
11 January 2008
I hated this film so much that I don't even feel like writing an intelligent analysis...how about, horrible acting, shaky camera, shove reality in your face kinda movie? avoid at all costs....I am not a big fan of movies that re-enact real life events...I thought Munich was an absolute piece of garbage movie...this one is right up there...maybe they could have filmed the cast being taken out back and beaten once the film was over for such an abysmal performance.... Now I upset myself...toss this one on the fire, along with House of Sand and Fog...and quite frankly, even if I were a journalist with heroic delusions, I would definitely stay out of a hellhole country like this couple was in....Angelina has done nothing to ever recommend her as a good actress...without her looks she would be nowhere, like this movie...

absolute waste of time
23 October 2007
oh my God..the worst piece of infantile garbage I ever sat through...considering the expectations I had, I was just so let down...there are so many prison movies better than this (and NO, Shawshank, while a great movie, is not even the best)...the emotions manipulated by this film left me cold, a little nauseated, and I would have shut the movie off about 2/3 of the way through had I not been asked to watch this film by a few friends...I think Tom Hanks is one of the most overused actors (next to Harrison Ford) ever...I am probably one of the very few viewers out there who has despised anything associated with Stephen King....NEVER overestimate the intelligence of the American public....

awful waste of time
24 October 2006
God, what is it with you people? Do you really need to watch 90 minutes of a man descending further into madness? Why do we have to have our guts wrenched out to feel entertained? Fear X was a much better film about a man's loss, far more intriguing even if it left you guessing...this film just left me guessing why anyone would enjoy watching this... Realism does not always mean it will be a good movie..life can be realistically dull, realistically confusing, and so this movie is just that...there have been many great films dealing with schizophrenia, loss of a child, drugs and alcohol, etc etc...this is NOT one of them,,,almost walked out of it but I kept thinking, SOMETHING good has to come out of this, some powerful resolution. Shoulda walked.... Scotty B

Wolfen (1981)

all time favorite suspense film!
23 October 2006
I can understand why horror fans would be disappointed in this film? But who cares? There are enough stupid horror movies around to satisfy those who need gore and screams. Wolfen tackles some very heavy concepts all within the context of a police procedural, and I never really felt the movie was stereotyping Indians. There is just a lot of material to cover and I thought the scenes with the Indians were amazingly focused and powerful. The acting is absolutely phenomenal--I wish Finney and Hines worked together in other movies...the atmosphere in this film really conveys the desolation of the burned out slums, and there is a feeling of like, "Wow, what the hell ARE we doing with the earth." But it never got preachy and I think Finney portrayed the more subtle realizations brought forth by this great film. Scott in Boca Raton, FL

depressing, stupid and pointless
25 August 2006
Good lord---get these people trying to read deep meanings into this film...was one guy talking about Israel and the Arabs fighting for the same house? Please! How about stupid people making stupid decisions over and over again, ripping your heart out and sending you on your way back up the movie aisle in search of the restroom for some relief! Easily the worse movie ever made given the expectations I had (next to Traffic)! The only thing saving this from a zero rating is Ben Kingsley's acting, but all I kept thinking through the whole movie is, "Let me out of this plot!" I wonder if anyone else feels the same way about this film, because so far I have read nothing but rave reviews.....

Fear X (2003)

had me going from the opening scene
21 August 2006
This is by far one of the greatest "understated" thrillers of all time...every scene, gesture, bit of dialog seemed to gnaw at me, draw me into a strange feeling that no matter what happens, the feeling of alienation will not go away...yes, there are one or two coincidences that seem a little too much, but if you just flow with it, you will enjoy it without having to know all the answers or have every loose end tied up for you..the photography is first rate, the atmosphere intense, and the acting is refreshingly real for a change....the movie scared me on a level I never expected....I highly recommend this move..some of the reviewers who trashed this movie probably just need to see explosions, bullets flying and chase scenes to be in suspense.....go see it!
