A Murder of Crows (1998)

An all around just okay thriller

This crime thriller starring Cuba Gooding Jr. and Tom Berenger has everything to make itself average. While the storyline itself isn't new or original, it does succeed to interest and entertain, though its nothing special. The Pacing of the story can be a little slow and dull, but it picks up at various times. The acting is good, not great, but good. Cuba and Tom both do a job well done, and definitely did their best with what they had to work with. All in all just okay, if you are interested in it, or in any of the cast, I'd recommend it, but if average legal thrillers aren't your thing, skip it. My Rating- 6/10 Rated R-Language, nudity, a scene of strong sexuality and some violence

Acts of Worship (2001)

A truly good and underrated film

I don't remember too much about this film, so my review is going to be vague, but this was an excellent film, and portrayed extremely realistically what its like for an addict out there. Nothing about this film is over the top or ignorant. You as the viewer are pulled in by the main character and her environment. You see what its like for someone who struggles with drugs. As someone who has never done drugs, this film impacted me more than I thought it would. Its a big wake-up call to those who don't know what its like. A big recommendation from me. Truly a insightful film. My rating-8/10 Rated R-Strong Drug Content, pervasive language and some sexuality

The Lonely Guy (1984)

Highly underrated

This is a great movie that has a lot of laughs, heart and romance. A lot of guys can also relate to it. Steve Martin plays a man who is oblivious to a lot of things that revolve around him, including his wife sleeping around. He finds out first hand when walking in on her (and he ends up being thrown out, thus starting the lonely guy part). While looking for a place to stay, he meets his new best friend, Warren, who is another lonely guy. He teaches Steve about all the ways of a lonely guy. Of course, all ends well with Steve meeting a girl. Its a great movie that really should be more popular. I rate this 7/10. (my rating) Rated R for sexual content/humor, and some language

Living Death (2006 Video)

Living Death is a poorly done movie.

The acting is okay, but thats about it.

The suspense and horror part of it sucks though, and there isn't much to work with. The script just isn't that great, and it seems like it was thrown together within just a few days.

It is basically your average, trashy B-movie. If you like anyone in the cast, sure, rent it, and if you like cheesy horror films then you will like it. With the exception of those things, its a movie you should skip. (my rating)Rated R for strong bloody violence, language and some drug content

A Little Trip to Heaven (2005)

Its a pretty well made movie I must admit.

I bought this at a Hollywood video store that was going out of business. A couple who get caught up in an ordeal dealing with her rich brothers insurance. The commercial for the insurance is really and oddly eye catching and artistically done. Julia Stiles does a fairly good job as an abused lifeless mother, and Jeremy Renner does good as the abusive husband. Forest Whitaker as usual does an excellent job, bringing character and color. The movie overall is really well done, its not great, but well deserves more attention than it does. Its got hear and emotion, which a lot of thrillers like this wouldn't usually have. Highly recommended. I rate this 8/20. Rated R for language, some violence and disturbing images

Karla (2006)

Its good for what it is.

Karla is based on the real life killers Paul Bernado and Karla Homolka. As most serial killer/rapists movies go, its just alright. The director tried to capture the brutality and true nature of the characters, but it only went so far. Misha Collins and Laura Prepon do a pretty good job, but also seemed a little distant to their characters because of the script. However, its still a good effort. I am also glad that it is not as graphic as it could have been. It is pretty harsh, but not over the top or extreme. Overall, while its not the greatest serial/killer rapist movie based on a true story, it tried, and the effort was not too shabby. I rate this 7/10. Rated R for brutal psychotic violence including murder, rape, and spousal abuse,disturbing sexual content and strong language

The Maid (2005)

Seemed sort of like an American horror film.

The maid is about a young girl who is staying with a family to help out with certain chores and such. The Lunar seventh month is here, and that means that the ghosts that get the people who are not doing the proper traditions.

This is a pretty good movie, unlike a lot of oriental horror films, it didn't have a lot of the weird girl with the long black hair coloring her face. It sort a more American feel to it. Lots of surprises, lots of ghosts, and a lot of running away from them. However, the movie works,and has some nice twists. The acting is pretty good, and the setting and location was nicely done. Pretty good movie. I rate it 6/10. (my rating)rated PG-13 for intense violence/terror and disturbing images, and some sexual content

Jawbreaker (1999)

A lot better than you would think

This film is sort of similar to mean girls (well, mean girls would be similar to this), but a lot more daring and darker. The characters make the movie what it is. Rose McGowan does a great job as a evil, manipulating bitch who stops at nothing to live her perfect life. The rest of the cast also did really good. The storyline is over the top, but it makes a great riot. Plus, the film actually has some morale to it, showing the good and bad side to human nature. If you like cult films, watch it. And definitely watch it if you are a fan of anyone in the cast. I rate this 7/10. Rated R for sexuality,language and violence-all involving teens.

Isolation (2005)

I actually liked it, it was creepy and intense.

Isolation is a very odd horror/thriller, but it works. The storyline isn't the best (animal experiment gone wrong), but its doable. The thing that makes the movie pretty good is the characters, suspense, and fear of the unknown. The actors are not well known, but they are good, they make it a lot more believable. Also, they act in a realistic manner, which also really helped. Over all its a great suspense film. Yes, the idea as a whole is pretty trite and corny, but the director made it work into something good. Its a good above average horror/thriller that is actually pretty underrated. I rate this 7/10. Rated R for violence/gore, language and a scene of sexuality

Idiocracy (2006)

Idiocracy is a movie for anyone who wants to laugh. Its a great about two people who agree (due to having bad lives) to be the guinea pig for a top secret government experiment. The two people (Joe and Rita) sleep in a pod for supposedly one year, however, when they wake up it has been several years into the future. Joe is thoroughly confused while Rita (at first) doesn't think much of it. However, as the adventure goes on, they soon realize that the worlds population has become extremely dumb. And Joe and Rita (who before, were probably below average) are the smartest people. With their help, they try to bring the world back to intelligence and order. Great comedy worth watching. I rate this 7/10. Rated R for language and sex-related humor

A Home of Our Own (1993)

A must see!

This movie is really one of the best movies I've ever seen. It is highly underrated and needs a higher rating on here. Kathy Bates does really well as a single mother raising six kids. Her emotions and acts are extremely realistic even if they are not likable. I usually don not like family orientated movies, but this one was great. Everything about it is so well done, and if makes you feel and think about what really goes on the world, and what life is really about. A must see if you are fan of movies period. I don't know how anyone could dislike this movie. I rate it 8/10. Rated PG for some mild language and violence in a family drama

Half Baked (1998)

I have to admit I did laugh a lot... however

OK, to state the obvious: yes, this movie is funny, it will make you laugh a lot. However as funny as it may be is it is extremely crude and crass, and makes pot look like a everyday normal activity. I find Dave Chappelle to be funny, but usually just offensive. Thats how it is with this movie. I did laugh, but I found it to promote a lot of shallow wants and make light of serious subjects. Of course, a lot of movies do that, but this seemed to have the message that "its OK, and its fun". I am someone who stays away from drugs (and obviously it is individual as to whether or not someone does drugs), and therefore I found the movie to be negative towards any redeeming scenes. If fact, there really are no redeeming factors in it. But, each their own. I recommend if you like stoner comedies or dave chappelle (and if you do this movie is right up your alley). I rate this 6/10. Rated R for pervasive drug content, language, nudity and sexual material

Hatley High (2003)

Fun and cool

This movie about, which is about a boy who moves to a new town and is good at chess, is pretty fun and amusing. The storyline and characters are well done and they are all likable. There is also some sentimentality to it, which I found to be a good factor instead of the same old cliché that a lot of movies like this have. The comedy part of it is also well done. Its not LOL material, but its still funny and quirky. Even the romance is not bad. Its different from some of the main teen comedies. And lastly, I am glad this wasn't the usual sex comedy. It is a pretty clean, and for the most part a family (sort of). I rate it 7/10. (my rating) PG-13 for language including sex and drug references, and for some sexual content

Funny Games (1997)

Truly disturbing

Funny Games is truly a disturbing and distraught film. It leaves all hope out. That being said, its a well made movie. Family of three on vacation are taken hostage by two psychotic men who make a bet with the family on their survival. The two performances by the guys are amazing and scary. They nail the sadistic, emotionless killers perfectly. This film is really slow most of the time, but never too dull. Also, while the film is in itself pretty violent, most of the violence is off screen or just moderate. However, this film is still depressing and intense and scary. It is not for everyone. A lot of people won't/don't like it because of the outcome. I only recommend it to those who can stomach dark, dark stories, or anyone who likes chillers. I rate it 8/10. Rated R for disturbing and violent behavior, including brief strong violence, terror-some involving a child, and brief language

Graduation (2007)

Funny story actually.

I was in Guatemala for a missions trip this summer, and while I was there we went shopping there. Now, they don't have regular DVD's like the US has, everything is bootleg. Well, l bought a few of them, one of them being Grace is Gone. Anyways, I get home, pop it int, and to my (though I really shouldn't be) surprise, it was Graduation. I was sort of disappointed because I wanted Grace is Gone, but I decided to give this a try anyways. It is not a bad movie by any means. Its actually pretty good. The story line is average, but some of the characters make it worth your while. Its got some good humor and drama, as well as being a crime film. Its not great, but not bad either. Worth a look if you like anyone in the cast. I rate this 6/10. (my rating) PG-13 for some sexual content, language and brief violence

Hannibal (2001)

Pretty intense and disturbing

Hannibal, the follow up to Silence of the Lambs, is pretty good. Now, I just have to say, Julianna Moore cannot replace Jodie Foster, but she sure did a good job, and came close to being on par, its just that her character isn't the same because its not Jodie Foster. That being said, the film is pretty good, better than I expected actually. Anthony Hopkins as always gives an outstanding performance. He is so creepy and bizarre, its just great. Ray Liotta also does good, but that actually goes for most of the cast in the movie. Its a great thriller and good follow up. However, unlike silence of the lambs, which was more subtle with the outright violence, this is much more gruesome and cringe worthy, especially one scene (sure to shock viewers). A must see in for anyone who liked Silence of the Lambs or a fan of thrillers. I rate this 7/10. Rated R for Strong gruesome violence, some nudity and language

Freeway (1996)

Without a doubt one of Reese Witherspoons best performances.

Freeway is an instant cult classic. Its crude, violent,graphic,gross,funny,and full of hilarious madness. I consider this one of the two best performances in a comedy. Along with Election this is her best comical act ever. She did so great. Having only seen newer movies with her, I did not know she was so good. She did a lot of hardcore movies before she switched to fluff romantic comedies. A must watch to see her true talent. Keifer Sutherland also did really well in this as a sicko pervert. Though its not his greatest role, its definitely worth the watch. All in all this movie is just awesome. Now, its not for everyone,you have to have a pretty strong stomach to make see it, but its worth it. See it ASAP. I rate this 8/10. Rated R for strong lurid violence and sexual dialogue,some sexual situations, drug content and language

Extreme Dating (2005)

Poor movie

This so called romantic comedy sounded somewhat promising because of its twist. However, it was not. The movie is pretty dull, boring, and the humor is far and in between. The actors and actresses tried their best, but they couldn't save this movie even if they gave Oscar worthy performances. Granted, the movie is somewhat interesting at points, overall it just was not made well. I would only recommend this to anyone who is a fan of any of the cast (main cast). Other than that, just avoid it, unless you are finding yourself surrounded by horrible movies. I rate this 4/10. Rated R for sexual content (note: this movie does not deserve an R rating. The sexual content is minimal and the nudity is brief).

Fido (2006)

The funnest zombie movie around.

Fido is a story about more well mannered zombies who have been trained to serve the human race. All falls apart though, when young Timmy's zombie Fido eats the family neighbor. From then on, disaster (well, maybe not disaster, but to some extent, chaos) occurs. Most of the people treat their zombies with fairness, and one such character sleeps with his zombie (very funny part of the movie, if not also very disturbing too). And we find the loving Fido whatever he may do. This is a very funny and unique film, especially for the zombie genre. It is also probably one of the least violent of zombie movies (no negativity in this statement). I very much recommend it to people who are looking for something funny and different. I rate this 8/10. Rated R for zombie related violence

Evilenko (2003)

Disturbing and ucomforable thriller

A teacher by the name of Andrej Evilenko (played by Malcolm McDowell) is fired after he tried to rape one of his young students. This first scene is truly unsettling and shocking. From there is gets worse when this communist man decides he likes to kill. Mr. McDowell does an excellent, creepy job as a real life serial killer. Now, that being said, I'm not all sure how much of the story is actually real. Its pretty believable though. All this being said, everyone who took part in the movie was great, and the acting was well done. The movie as a whole is good, but also a little too much (well, maybe not to some viewers). The movie is quit graphic and intense, but not to gratuitous so that is good. I recommend it to anyone who is interested in the story, or anyone in the cast. Other than that though, I'd say its up to whoever if they really wanna see it. I rate this 7/10 (mainly for the superb acting). Election (1999)

One of the best comedies I'v'e seen.

This movie is hilarious. Its a riot, and its probably one of the best comedies of the 90's hands down. High school teacher (played by Mathew Broderick, who did a great job)has his hands full while student elections are in process. His biggest pestering comes from Tracy Flick (Reese Witherspoon). This is undoubtedly one of Reese's best roles. She is funny as heck and shows talent. This doesn't just for Reese Witherspoon. The rest of the cast is hilarious and talented as well. The script, acting, direction, soundtrack, everything fits perfectly. Its well worth the watch for true fans of comedy. Highly recommended. I rate this 8/10. Rated R for Strong Sexuality, sex-related dialogue and language, and for a scene of drug use.

Delirious (1991)

Funny John Candy movie.

This is a really good movie to watch if you like silly/fun movies, parody movies, or john candy. It has a great blend of comedy, wit, action and all sorts of other things. I am pretty surprised by the low rating. Its not the best movie by any means, but greatly above standard and really enjoyable. The actors/actresses were funny and did their parts nicely. Its not exactly original though, and it doesn't look like it had the best budget, but it does what its suppose to.. make us laugh. Definitely worth checking to see if your video store rental has it. I rate it 7/10. Rated PG for sensuality, crude humor, language and comic violence.

Dark Corners (2006)

Not that bad.

This dark thriller isn't bad, its not great, but certainly watchable and suspenseful. The acting is good. Thora Birch gave a pretty nice performance even though she sometimes didn't seem to really understand her character. the atmosphere is great. The dream was good, and the nightmare was dark and disturbing. and it had a morale to the story. Though a lot of people might not like it (which might contribute to the low rating). It will also please gorehounds, as there is plenty of brutality and blood. I think it should have a little higher rating. Its definitely worth the watch if you come across it. I rate it 6/10 Rated R for bloody violence, disturbing images, terror, and brief nudity

Messiah of Evil (1974)

Artsy zombie horror.

Dead People (aka Messiah of Evil), is probably one of the best zombie films of the 70's. This is actually quit different from the average formula put into most zombie films. For one, the location is not what you would expect for this kind of movie, but it works perfectly. Also, there are several artistic elements to the movie that really shine. The acting is also pretty good. At first, the lead actress is as wooden as can be, but later in the film she picks up and does a job well done. It is a really good movie, and I recommend it to horror fans or (believe it or not), indie film fans. It will not disappoint. I rate it 8/10. Rated R for Violence/terror, some language and partial nudity

Caved In (2006 TV Movie)

I can't believe I bought it.

I was at Hollywood video one day, and they had this big sale going on, so I bought quit a bit of movies. I was looking and I came across this. I looked at it and though, it looked "okay", not good, but okay. I also didn't know it was a TV movie (or sci-fi channel movie either). So, I bought the movies, came home, and I think I watched this one first. I could not believe what I was watching.. .utter crap. This movie was so bad it was funny (and, slightly fun, but not enough to like the movie). I couldn't believe the CGI effects, it was laughable to the extreme. And like most cheap horror films, the gore was over-the-top, and so was the acting (which also is really amateur). This was definitely without a doubt one of the worst movies ever made, not even sure how it got made to begin with. I rate it 3/10 (somewhat generous). Rated R for horror violence and gore
