Oppenheimer (2023)
Beyond the Bomb: A Realistic Assessment of 'Oppenheimer'
'Oppenheimer' is indeed an intriguing movie with a constellation of A-list actors all delivering stellar performances. The title is aptly chosen as it is primarily a biopic that intricately charts Oppenheimer's life trajectory. It delves into his early interests in quantum mechanics, the genesis of the idea to create a bomb, his struggle for inclusion in the program due to his affiliations, and the painstaking process of assembling a team to actualize the bomb. The movie also depicts the only explosion he witnessed - the Trinity Test - and emphatically highlights that he was not present in Japan during the actual bombings. Most importantly, the movie poignantly portrays his post-war change of heart and his subsequent fight against the further development of atomic weapons.
Remembering that this is a biopic, not a war or science movie, is crucial when approaching 'Oppenheimer'. From this perspective, the movie indeed delivers. However, I'm rating it 6/10 rather than 10/10 due to several shortcomings.
Firstly, the trailer is somewhat misleading as it gives an impression of a movie primarily about the atomic bomb rather than Oppenheimer's life. This discrepancy could potentially misguide the audience's expectations. Secondly, the runtime of the movie feels excessive. There are portions that could have been trimmed down to achieve a smoother flow without sacrificing the narrative's complexity and detail. There were times when the pacing lagged, and I found myself checking the time, which detracted from the overall experience.
Thirdly, while the non-linear narrative style can be an effective tool for creating suspense and atmosphere, it can be confusing for those not well-versed in Oppenheimer's life. The lack of clear timestamps during the transitions between flashbacks and flash-forwards makes tracking the events challenging.
Lastly, I think the hype surrounding the movie is somewhat overblown. Currently, it stands at a 9/10, which in my opinion, overstates the movie's overall quality. By rating it a point lower, I hope to contribute to a more accurate representation of its value.
In summary, 'Oppenheimer' is a commendable biopic that could have been improved with clearer marketing, tighter editing, better chronological markers, and less hype.
Ghosted (2023)
Expected much less but turned out to be good fun
Despite the varying opinions surrounding this film, I find myself enjoyed by its ability to achieve a fine equilibrium between action, comedy, and drama. Unlike other action movies, which often succumb to an overindulgence of relentless combat scenes, this movie seamlessly weaves together exhilarating action with captivating storytelling and clever dialogue. It offers a welcome respite from mindless explosions and monotonous fights, presenting a refreshing and thoughtfully crafted experience. I must admit, the rationale behind the 1 or 2-star ratings eludes me, as this action rom/com surpasses expectations, leaving viewers with an immensely enjoyable cinematic journey.
Hannah Montana: The Movie (2009)
An Enjoyable Kids' Movie That Deserves a Fair Chance: Rediscovering Childhood Magic with a Charming and Underrated Film
Despite its underrated status, this film shines with its own charm. While not flawless, it surpasses its unfairly low average score. Biases against Miley Cyrus influence some negative reviews. Personally, I rate it a solid 7. It has its slower moments and decent acting. As a kids' movie, it's forgivable. The true strength lies in its ability to leave you with a heartwarming smile. It may be a 7 for adults, but for its target audience, it's a resounding 10. It successfully captures the magic of childhood, reminding us of the joy we felt. Give it a chance; you'll find yourself transported to a world of innocence and wonder.
Meltdown: Three Mile Island (2022)
Yes, but also very much no.
The series paints a picture making nuclear power look extremely bad.
Let's be clear here.
Nuclear power, per energy produced, is THE safest form of energy existing to this day.
That is, as Rick in the series put it, "you don't interpret rules for your benefit, you don't falsify documents, you don't destroy documents, you don't operate a nuclear power plant in violation of regulations and in violation of the law."
The series gives voice to both sides and that's good, but then gives a voice to people who don't have a PhD, don't have a master and not even a bachelor's degree in the matter. That is not ok cause it's just causing drama and misinformation, based on fears rather than studied information and facts. Netflix, it's a documentary, not a drama tv series!
Nuclear power has extreme potentials with minimal downsides, including radioactive waste (there's a very viable solution for that too), but the real focus should not be to say no to nuclear power, but rather, to have more severe checks to avoid human factors, mainly greed.
Friends: The Reunion (2021)
Can't give Friends anything other than 10 stars
It would have been a 9 cause the middle part when random people talk about the show is a bit of a downer but the end is an 11 so well done F·R·I·E·N·D·S
10 out of 10!
Friends (1994)
10 stars for 10 seasons
It's simply one of the best shows ever that ALWAYS manages to make you smile, laugh and cry. It's an emotional bombardment that is unique in it's own. Simply amazing.
Blade Runner 2049 (2017)
Good acting but so BORING!!
Acting is very good from all actors but the movie is SO slow that it's painfully boring to watch! Nothing really happens all movie and it's all very confusing. Shame, could have been so much better.
Burn After Reading (2008)
Yes, but actually no
Very good acting with everyone playing their part just perfectly, from the weird lady to the CIA supervisor.
The problem of this movie is that it's labeled as dark comedy so you'd expect to be laughing at things that you're not supposed to, but reality is that the movie is very serious from start to finish with characters that you wonder why they are allowed to vote. Cringy moments and painful acts of stupidity take over the movie and it's just kinda boring to the end.
The last 5 minutes of the movie bring a bit of light and you can finally ginish the movie with a laugh.
Good movie got the acting but just too weirdly serious and boring
Downsizing (2017)
Wasted an opportunity for 2 good movies
Initially the movie is fun and brings up the curiosity about this small world but after approximately half an hour, the movie has nothing to do with downsizing and the same second part could have been easily have been happening in a real size world. Neither part of the movie is bad but they are just so diverse that they just do not belong together. Would they have made 2 different movies, one with the comedy part and downsizing, and one with the drama of the second half, they could have had 2 great movies. Shame.
