Island in the Sky (1953)
Bad movie
This movie stinks. First off as a person that is certified in air search and rescue the morons flying the other search aircraft wouldn't be able to find there but with both hands. Second is that the only thing they did right was to stay with the aircraft when it went down. They all should have been dead in the first 24 hours the way they did things. The next thing is that the entire part of Quebec even back in the 40s was crawling with Canadian bush pilots who knew every square inch of terrain. Use them and not some American pilots. If you want to see a good movie about an airplane crash that is 100% true look at Ordeal in the Arctic but don't bother with this piece of crap.
Ordeal in the Arctic (1993)
A good Canadian movie
What people tend to forget was that this was a made for TV movie and a completely true story. I was just out of the Canadian Military when this happened and remember watching every news broadcast that I could on it as well as the inquest report done after. I also know one of the actors in the film and he was telling me that it was important to keep it as true as possible to the events as they happened. I did notice some flaws like when they leave they were at CFB Edmonton. I noticed that because I have flown out of CFB Edmonton and recognized the terminal. I also found that there was to much light used in the filming because that far north at that time of year it is completely black. It is all in all a damn good Canadian movie and I would recommend it for your video collection.
