Norm Macdonald Live: Sarah Silverman Pt. 1 (2017)
Season 3, Episode 6
The true king of comedy or the master of disguise
14 October 2023
After almost a one-year break the show returned with the latter half of its third and final season, and it was a good one - not least because of this sixth episode - presenting two of my favourite stand-ups and joke-tellers: Norm MacDonald and Adam Egert! Sarah Silverman was there too and she was hysterical. Who is funnier than her? No-one. Except the dudes. And on that note: Norm is one fire on the opening remarks that are sometimes (according to whom?) the best part of the show - or then they're not (needs citation). Check listings and reviews on Entertainment Weekly. In short: it's more than radio, but less than TV. It's a podcast. (Pod-cast? That's a funny word.)

The Simpsons: Treehouse of Horror XXXII (2021)
Season 33, Episode 3
A decent Halloween show
23 November 2021
This was a nice one. After the horrible musical episode opening the 33th season and the almost-as-horrible second episode, this was... O. K. It had cute and funny bits in it and some horror/"gore" too. I'm not sure if I'm going to even watch this season any further - for now, at least. So many things are badly off on the show: the storylines, interesting ideas that haven't been used already and the whole question whether this is meaningful anymore.

This is starting to feel like those dreams I have in which I still have the same dog that I had twenty years ago: "How can he still be here? I thought he was dead!"

Unbelievably bad
22 November 2021
I couldn't watch this episode through. I came not even close to finishing it. Why would they even bother to slap up something such as this one? Everything is off here. Maybe some sort of interesting adventures are still there to be written in the Simpsons universe, but the uppermost feeling I get from watching this show is that they should really just stop.

Tried to watch the second episode of this season (33) and it was just mildly better. Stick to the old ones, if you want to watch the show: start from the very first season and grab that DVD off the shelf!

Pointless

Buff Milhouse and Lisa the president? This has been done already. What's the point of making this show anymore? Trust me: season 32 has episodes way worse than this one, but you still don't want to watch this more than once. One time is the absolute maximum for views. Nelson having twins with both Sherri and Terri? Yawn. Yeah, it was funny when I saw it on season 16.

So bad I had to stop
25 June 2021
This episode was so bad I had to stop watching. This is a very weird mess. It hardly even counts as a Simpsons episode. The episode is just mostly a monolog from this old British guy. Maybe this was originally a script for something completely different than "The Simpsons"?

I have nothing to say about this, but...
24 June 2021
This was a bad episode. What can you expect from season 32... Go back a season or two - or three and you'll see good episodes. Lenny, Hibbert, Bumblebee Man etc. Sound bad. They are now on these 2021 episodes using a thicker line and a lower frame rate to grasp that old-school feeling of the show, but when the writing is this bad and soaked with abhorrent political agenda... Just stop making the show and cash in your chips. I have nothing to say about the story as it is forgettable.

Very bad - even for season 32
24 June 2021
I noticed that they are now using a thicker line and lower frame rate in animation. You even get those silly en face frames of characters that make you just want to rewind and hit pause at the right moment to look at those silly frontal faces. Well, none of this is bringing the old gold back with this incredibly bad writing and off-putting political agenda happening at the same time.

Just stop making the show.

Another piece of mess
23 June 2021
There's some sort of a fight between Homer and Marge? I don't know - this is just so freaking bad that you really can't focus on the story. The anachronisms are also so horrid that I want to cry. Did I already say that the new voice actors suck? Just skip this episode - as most of the episodes on season 32 - as you won't miss anything.

Maybe there will be some watchable episodes on this show to come - who knows? Maybe there will be some stories that grasp you with their sharp and sometimes cute jokes. Or maybe you should just stick to the old gold and give up with the new. There really is no reason - other than that they are still able to sell advertisements during the commercial breaks - to make this anymore.

This is The Simpsons in 2021
23 June 2021
This is so bad that you can't describe it with words. The plot is so weird that is leaves you speechless. It's just too strange that Homer was a kid at the same as Bart was a kid.

The Simpsons: Wad Goals (2021)
Season 32, Episode 13
A promising beginning
21 June 2021
This one starts off quite nicely - it has an old-school feel to it. But quickly things flatten out to the bad-quality 2020/2021 Simpsons that we are so used to by now. It's scary to see that the viewers don't really have any expectations for the new shows.

This one and the two previous episodes are just grey mash. There aren't many gleams of light in season 32 this (ep. #13) far: you can count them using the fingers in your one hand - even if you lost half of them in a sawing accident.

The biggest problems are bad writing and the acting: the jokes are not funny or then there aren't any jokes - I'm not sure which - and the voice acting... Harry Shearer, Hank Azaria and Julie Kavner sound tired. After over 30 years they actually might be a bit tired, come to think of it. Dan Castellaneta and Yarley Smith sound like they're still up to par.

Another huge problem in the cast is that Dr. Hibbert, Bumblebee Man etc. Are no more. When they changed the actors, it just doesn't work. Even Martin doesn't work anymore, even though they changed the actor because the great Russi Taylor died. The legendary characters cease to be in the new episodes. Even the gay latino isn't voiced by Hanz Azaria anymore. That pretty much sums it all up: the worst season ever.

The Simpsons: Sorry Not Sorry (2020)
Season 32, Episode 9
Another painfully bad episode in season 32
21 June 2021
It seems to be normal in season 32 for an episode to be this bad. It's a rare exception if you can watch comfortably through an episode from 2020/2021. This is not one of those episodes; this one is pure pain. Avoid this unless you are a masochist.

Lisa is all about feminism and "anti-racism". This whole episode is an excuse to go on and on about a black inventor no-one has ever heard of. They show her picture for a good minute on the screen. I still have no idea who she is.

The viewer also gets confused watching a scene of chief Wiggum talking with someone over the police radio. I guess that voice on the radio belongs to Lou - the black cop from the iconic duo of Eddie & Lou. Although you can't be sure of anything on this show anymore.

Not a bad episode on this season - so far
19 June 2021
This is not the worst episode on season 32 this far. But it's not an unforgettable instant classic either. There are some cute jokes and scenes that I liked. But there are some huge problems too, the biggest being Kevin Michael Richardson - a black person - doing the voice for a white character. I thought "The Simpsons" was over this kind of conduct. They obviously are not, as this was not the first time for Richardson doing voices that are not appropriate for his race.

Not a very good episode
19 June 2021
Where is the uproar and outcry? Why aren't Hanz Azaria & Co. Condemning this sort of activity? I'm talking about Kevin Michael Richardson - a black person - doing the voice for a white character in this episode.

Not much to say about this one in a positive manner. A weird episode with a weird political agenda that is just artificially slapped on top of everything. Watching this through even once is an achievement.

The Simpsons: Now Museum, Now You Don't (2020)
Season 32, Episode 3
Another historical episode
14 June 2021
The previous one ("I, Carumbus") took place in ancient Rome. It was not a good episode. Almost impossible to watch through even once. Two historical episodes in a row seems just too much. And the next one from this very episode will be another Halloween special. Just for "heads up", if you're not a big fan of them.

Bumblebee Man is voiced by some guy called Eric Lopez. And yet Luigi Risotto and Legs & Louie are voiced by non-Italian actors. They should revisit all the old episodes and not to mention that movie with the Inuit woman who was voiced by Tress MacNeille - who is NOT an eskimo.

They should stop showing the old episodes completely before the changes are made. Everyone who has DVDs, VHS tapes or C-cassettes should send them back to Fox so they can alter the recordings or replace them with brand-new ones. All this should happen fully at the expense of Fox.

The best episode since Death's last appearance
22 April 2021
This is the best episode since Death's last appearance - and that time Death was Norm MacDonald. Norm "killed it", as they say. This episode had jokes that actually made me laugh and it could've been even better with Norm. That was more of a comment than a review.

A great episode!
16 April 2021
This was a very good episode. The previous (#15) that was centered on Lois was different and a quite satisfying one as well. (#13; "PeTerminator" I didn't like that much for some reason...) These episodes give a feeling that there's some new blood in the writing staff. The jokes are mostly cute, fresh (as in "new") and funny. At times it really feels like they come from the minds of new talent that yet don't even know completely what they are doing - and that's a good thing!

I was pretty fed up with the overkill of gay jokes and Stewie and Peter's being gay. I have nothing against gay jokes: they can be as funny as any other type of joke. Isn't it funny how there always was that one gay character on every movie or TV show back in the day, then this whole PC crap blew up on everyone's face and it's like people don't know what to make of the whole thing... Gays were first happy that they got themselves represented on the screens, then - I guess - it got overdone and eventually the gays (or these people getting offended on behalf of them) thought it wasn't funny anymore. If gays are not funny, just blame those aforementioned groups.

FG slowly gaining momentum
16 April 2021
Family Guy is slowly - but inevitably - gaining momentum. This was the first episode that really made me laugh. All the fans of Norm MacDonald will like this one. It's a bleeding shame Norm didn't reprise the role later during the series, but it was recast to some "nobody".

When FG was still cute
5 April 2021
This and the previous episode ("Mind over Murder" in which Peter sets up a bar in their basement and Lois starts singing) showcase perfectly how cute "Family Guy" was in the beginning. Sure, characters need some edge, but other than that, the show had all its elements present that made it the show it was and still is. Naturally the pacing and rhythm change a little over the course of time, when the people working on the show and the techniques they use are changing.

It reminds me of "The Simpsons" very much. The old stories are very similar and you can see a lot of Homer in Peter. As I said: the show was cute. It was softer and more jaded than Simpsons. I especially like Brian who is a cute dog character sipping on a drink off a coconut with a straw. Later they all turn into sex-crazed maniacs and/or sodomites.

Just as The Simpsons, Family Guy needs a little time the reach its peak and get things running - or to establish itself, if you will.

Movie that fails to be what it intended to be.
26 January 2021
This movie misses its target. It tried to be something, but it fails in it. If the opening credits don't give you an epileptic seizure, you might be able to watch the movie a bit further. Deplorably, it has nothing to offer.

In the beginning I hear something that sounds like Coil's "How to Destroy Angels". The flashing intro told me that there would be music by Coil in this movie. But what I hear after that is muffled bass drum in the background and muffled speech of the main(?) character. (You really can't tell who's who on this one.) It feels as if the movie is shot with a hand-held camera; in first-person view style. (I first thought that this would be a "found footage" film.)

I tried to crank up the volume, but I hear only muffled dialogue - and that muffled 4-by-4 kick drum in the background. Nothing happens and the movie goes nowhere. Pointless, endless, awkward sex scenes. I skipped forward a bit and still nothing is happening. At that point I called it quits.

Ented the void, indeed. (Sorry, I had to...)

My God, this is a bad episode!
13 January 2021
This must be easily one of the worst episodes. The plot goes nowhere and nothing happens. Luke a lukewarm bowl of water with some lumps in it and those lumps don't taste like anything either.

It felt like this episode lasted for 45 minutes - and not in a good way.

This movie is a waste of time. I did it watch it through anyway. A little girl clicking her tongue is 1) not horror and 2) not an applicable substitute for horror.

A movie you should definitely watch.
24 December 2020
A French gem that needs to be seen. I was watching it on TV when it came out back in the day, but fell asleep amidst the film. It stayed in my mind, intriguingly, as I wasn't quite sure what I had really seen when dozing off in front of the TV, on the couch. The same thing happened whilst watching "Benny's Video" - some 15 years prior to "Le couperet".

The movie stayed in my mind and I just now watched it in full, after some 15 years - and it was great. A really unique and funny film. Dark humour, black comedy - whatever you want to call it - a bit macabre, but extremely entertaining and enjoyable film that will make you laugh too.

Recommended further watching from Michael Haneke that I referred to earlier: "The Seventh Continent"/"Der siebente Kontinent" (1989), "Benny's Video" (1992), "71 Fragmente einer Chronologie des Zufalls" (1994), "Funny Games" (1997).

Marian Dora: "Cannibal" (2006), "Melancholie der Engel" (2009), "Reise nach Agatis" (2010), "Debris Documentar" (2012).

Lars von Trier: "Riget" (TV mini-series 1994-1997), "Dogville" (2003), "The House That Jack Built" (2018).

American dream getting out of hand.
24 December 2020
American dream getting out of hand; out of proportion, when a man gets out of jail, goes from airport to a hotel and gets himself a prostitute straight away. The dream quickly starts fading away when greed takes over and people start being nasty to each other. Perphaps goodness and kindness - and meaning to do good - shall overcome in the end?

A decent movie with good actors. If you want to see Alec Baldwin in another great movie, look for "Outside Providence" (1999). If you crave more for Jennifer Jason Leigh, go for "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" (1982), "Rush" (1991) and "eXistenZ" (1999). These are all among my absolute favourite movies of all time.

Family Guy: Pawtucket Pat (2020)

Not a one to really awaken emotions.
14 December 2020
This one really doesn't hit the spot that would make the audience think and have a conversation about it (at least with themselves, inside their heads [it's called "thinking"]). The theme and the subject just fails to bring or stir up things enough to make it interesting. They don't particularly badly fail with this one, but don't succeed either. It's a lukewarm cup of coffee with an aftertaste of tar even at its best.

(And I have a feeling that they did this before - and "The Simpsons" having done it even before that.)

The best point is made during the traditional "final conclusion scene" with the family sitting on the couch. At least there is one bit that I will remember this episode of.

Maybe there is still hope for FG, but having said that, I must mention that I personally have to go back three seasons for the last 10-star episode I've seen. More one-star episodes have had to be witnessed during that period of time, unfortunately.

FG going for drama?
10 December 2020
Was this supposed to be comedy or an attempt towards drama? Reminds me of South Park during that weird era of war with Denmark or whatever the hell there was going on at that one point. It almost seemed as they didn't even try to be funny. And I think they accomplished that mission pretty well - just like FG here.

Something weird about this episode... Oh, yeah: no cutaways.
