The following contains spoilers:
"It's no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then."...Unless you are Alice, Kat, or Del. Three women who have shown hardly any character growth in the last 11 episodes. I want to preface my review by saying the 3 actresses portraying these characters are amazing. Sadie, Chyler, and Andie all deserve better than what they are given with these characters. Let's start with Alice.
Alice is too busy making memories in a time period that she wasn't even supposed to be alive in. She falls in love with a boy (because apparently that's all young girls care about according to Hallmark) and treats her mother (in the present) like trash. It takes her WAY too long to realize that her crush is actually a 40 year old man in REAL time and takes WAY too long for her to become uncomfortable with that fact. It's absolutely creepy. What's the point in watching Alice fall in love in the 90s when we know it won't amount to anything. Wasted time.
Now let's talk about Kat. She's probably the most unlikeable character in the series which is really a shame. She flits around from man to man, and whatever happened to the Andy character? Waste of time (again) because we know she belongs with Elliot. She knows Alice is in love with Nick (again, creepy) yet doesn't sit down and talk to her about the inappropriateness and just lets her daughter spiral in her teenage emotions. In this episode, she has her boyfriend and daughter beg her to stay in the present with them but nope. Curiosity killed the cat. She goes back in time to "stop" her fathers death but ends up causing it. Predictable but it didn't have to be. Bad writing. How is Kat supposed to move on with life knowing she caused her fathers death and possibly her brothers disappearance?? That's enough to drive a person mad.
Del- whew. She is a roller coaster of emotions in every episode. Her husband died 20+ years ago in a terrible accident and she thinks he *might* (even though they had an amazing marriage until Jacob went missing) have been seeing another woman and that erases all the good things about him?? She's holding on to an unnecessary grudge. Even when Kat is proving that Colton was a good guy, Del can't seem to get over it. Bad writing.
I almost don't want to watch the finale. It's been predictable that Jacob fell in the pond and is stuck somewhere. Genius Elliot couldn't figure this out already? Anyways. The episode gets a 7/10 because the acting is great, especially Chyler at the end. I was mad but also moved by her performance. PLEASE can we get some redemption for these characters in season 2?
