Disappointed paternalistic and misogynistic
3 January 2022
There are some good points to the film - it's filmed with some love. But in the end it is massively disappointing - so out of date - with that stereotypical misogyny and paternalism that you'd have hoped was now unacceptable in Mexico. I don't know who it is who played the father (Enrique) but whoever it is should be so ashamed at the role. You have to feel very sorry for the boy. Sebastian, with such a screwed up cast of people around him. Massively disappointing and embarrassing.

Appalling

I love Geography Club - the book, that is, not this film. The film is, honestly, unbelievable - crass, shallow, cliched. I was so disappointed. It's a sort of Hollywood C movie that ignores every gentle subtlety of the book. I realised something was wrong when Gunner first appeared. And from then on it was downhill all the way. If the director didn't like the book why did he make this film? If he did like it, why did he completely misunderstand it? Sorry, but it actually made me cry to see this failure.
