Civil War (2024)

Beautiful - BUT OMG SO BORING!
21 April 2024
We went to see this with hopes of seeing a film about a dystopia civil war, you know, much like the reviews showed. Unfortunately the trailer makes this appear 100% more exciting than it is. But it was fairly evident that the story had no real narrative, teamed with one dimensional characters, teamed with a highly predictable ending. Snoozefest only interrupted by the odd gunfire.

The only thing of note was the exceptional cinematography, which was some of the most impressive I've seen, with modern day Apocalypse Now vibes, and the sound design and score was equally as tight.

But, no war, no real story, and the president siege at the end was beyond childish!

But it doesn't matter how good something is if it's BORING. Even the people sat around us in the cinema were moaning about wasting an hour and a half of their lives, and we felt the same. We skipped the pub afterwards and went home to bed, £40 lighter and fed up.

And can someone explain why wigs in 2024 are worse than they were 40 years ago?

Can anyone read the on screen text?
6 June 2023
While I enjoyed the narrative and watched it with intrigue, I do wish they had increased the font size of the on screen text! Even on a 65" TV it was still tiny and I found it really difficult to read (not all of have laser focus unfortunately).

I have to say as well that it felt really contrived that the Sal character got his end away with so many women half his age, a bit ick!

With those two points out the way, it was good to see something refreshingly different and with tech development as it is, it does feel like this Minority Report type of life could be on the cards one day.

I'll order my implant with A BIG FONT!

Stallone was smart to bail!

Ridiculous film, totally unbelievable, sob story, virtue signalling rubbish. God knows how bad the next Creed Jnr Jnr is going to be, I dread to think!

Honestly it was soooooo much worse than anticipated, but the story is pointless and unbelievable, all the advertising was a bit full on too. A real shame to see the legendary Rocky movies abused to create utter whinge-dribble. Not only was it an awful boxing film, but it was just an awful film in general. It tried to steal what it could from Rocky, regurgitated Creed 1 & 2 and added some seriously weird CGI to the final fight which made it feel like a crappy Marvel film.

It had a big old self-pity sob story but somehow absolutely no heart - a key ingredient to any boxing film!

Uniquely insightful

Loved the veer away from the 'American cop show' approach, letting us uncomfortably live in Ted's environment. Sharlto Copeley is excellent, believable and disturbing. Arthouse style, assumes a knowledge, loved it.

Take haemorrhoid cream

Wolf screeching, chain rattling self-important ham and cheese. What could have shone light on the era was ruined by more make believe, hammy acting and cheesey characters. Dreadful. Watch Gladiator or 12 Years A Slave to see how it's done.

So refreshing!

Kudos to the director for such imaginative, creative storytelling, and of course the entire cast who all performed in this 'mini-series-play' giving their A-game. An absolute delight, even with the dark subject matter.

Fans of Marvel and Netflix drab will hate it. No better compliment.

Definitely 'trick' as opposed to 'treat'...

Warning: Spoilers
The great news is that my husband and I only paid £6.99 a ticket. The bad news is that we still feel ripped off.

This should never have been a cinema release. We both enjoyed Halloween (2018), but I did have a nagging doubt about Halloween Kills. Call it 'horror intuition'.

'Kills' has nowhere to go, apart from after the money, so it uncomfortably flits from 1978's best bits, to shortly after 2018's Halloween, with zero story, hoping to find something to fill the gaps with. It spends the first 20 minutes repeating other films and trying to bring back 'legacy characters' nobody cared about. It appears to struggle for sets, and coherence.

Why were we watching a scene in a karaoke bar for so long at the start, why was 'mankind' running aimlessly/savagely around a hospital for endless insane scenes of people running up and down corridors and stairs with such hammy hysteria, why did everyone think the little bald guy was Michael Myers anyway, why did they keep repeating the 'standing at the window' lore in every scene, who the hell thought of the stupid car group death scene, why did Jamie Lee Curtis bother? So many questions, all pointless. Won't be stumping up for the 3rd, which this sequel aimlessly leaves open.
