Family Switch (2023)
Funny Family Holiday Movie
If you liked the movies Big, Freaky Friday, and The Hangover, you will absolutely love this movie. It's a smart, nerdy, witty, attention grabbing movie that is fun for the whole family. How can you go wrong with Jennifer Garner and Ed Helms? They are hysterical. (The bloopers a the end of the movie are worth the watch alone). And, bonus! Rita Moreno is a mysterious passerby that just happens to show up everywhere. Parents and teens alike will get a kick out of this movie. It speaks to all of us no matter your age. It's a feel good movie but not too sappy. Story is familiar but original and the acting is on point by the whole cast. Definitely a must see.
Spirited (2022)
Amazing and Wonderfully Weird at The Same Time!
UPDATE! I wrote my initial review after watching the movie for the first time. I liked it but I had hoped for more. WATCH IT A SECOND TIME! Watching it the second time gave me time to listen to the music and watch the dancing. It's been a whole new experience since then, and now, I haven't been able to stop watching it and singing the songs ever since! Justin and Benj don't disappoint! The music is memorable and you'll be singing it in your head. (Don't miss the cut song, "Ripple" during the credits. It's my favorite! I have a bone to pick with whoever took that out of the main movie). Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds are perfectly matched and funny as hell. And they both can legit sing. My main critique would be of Octavia Spencer. She's lovely in this movie but she doesn't sing well, and the chemistry between her and Will Ferrell is just awkward. Oh yeah - PARENTS! This is definitely not a little kid family movie. There should be kind of a big disclaimer that there's some cursing and middle fingers, etc. (If you watch it first, you could easily mute or skip those parts). Bottom line - LOVE IT! Expect it to be a musical, making fun of musicals, with some SNL humor added in for good measure. You can't go wrong!
Being the Ricardos (2021)
Simply awful, Nicole Kidman is an insult to Lucy
If I could've given this movie is zero I would have. As a lifelong lover of I Love Lucy and someone who has seen every single episode, I was embarrassed within five minutes of this movie that Nicole Kidman was cast as Lucille Ball. Javier was OK as Desi but looked nothing and none of his mannerisms no were correct. The people who played Fred and Ethel were horrible. The whole movie was just one week of Lucy and Desi's lives; and nothing that was even remotely interesting. There was so much more story that could have been told. This was a big fat miss.
Mare of Easttown (2021)
Nearly perfect
I love Kate Winslet and I knew I was going to love the show immediately. Just watched the first episode and it's absolutely amazing. I have to say though, being from Delco, it is obviously distracting to listen to Kate Winslet attempt to speak in "our" accent. No one is ever going to nail a Delco accent. It's weird, and we don't all actually speak in the same way (with the exception of "wooder"). But Kate does it justice. Besides that, the show is captivating; it sucks you in right away. I'm actually mad I can't binge watch it! I am def not missing one second of this mini-series.
Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey (2020)
Best new Christmas movie!
This movie is sensational! It has something for everyone! Music, dancing, love, and laughter - and of course, Christmas spirit! It's nothing like I've ever seen before in a Christmas movie. All new music by John Legend! If you loved Wicked, Peter Pan, and Willy Wonka, this movie is a combination of all 3 and so much more. I can't wait to watch it again!
