Revisionist History at its Finest
27 June 2022
After tuning in for an evening's entertainment regarding English/Norman military history---I had so hoped---I became quickly and sadly disappointed upon seeing the woke, pc and revisionist casting of one of Duke William's trusted advisories, a casting that, upon viewing, was CLEARLY I'll-advised if one wanted to depict historical accuracy. I'm all for giving actors gainful employment, but, come now, a role should try to be historically believable, should it not? Better luck next time regarding role casting because this was a glaring error.

Weird. Not cool weird, either. DUMB weird.

Bullet pointed for the impatient: First minute, promising. Thereafter, a brain-numbing miasma of spoiled scifi stew that's been too long in a dumpster on a HOT August afternoon in Atlanta. Choices: a nightmare of behind dragged behind a car, or watching this. (Choose the first one).

'The Courts Are Alive, With The Sound Of Loud Grunts...'.
4 December 2021
I can time my complete loss of interest in the game (and I used to play---quite well, too), with her appearance on the courts snorting, grunting and bellowing with each serve, forehand and backhand. That cacophony of rude and crude noise spoiled the entire sport for me; hence I doubt that this particular tennis outing would hold the LEAST bit of interest for me or any tennis fan of like mind, Will Smith or no.

Brain-Numbing, Dumbing-Down Liquid Baby Food

Rarely (but it happens on occasion) does a movie just annoy the living whatchamacallit outta me as soon as it's 5 minutes in. But this one did, and I felt like I really needed a drink in that amount of time, and I quit drinking. Ok, now I feel my temper rising again, so no more time spent on this. None!

Politically-correct, historically inaccurate nonsense, for all of its awards. However, pretty decent, as far as politically-correct, historically inaccurate nonsense goes.

WHY do all of these pseudo-scientists and thrill-seeking adrenaline junkie types always feel the need to blurt out 'f#@k, s©°t' and other obnoxious expletives whenever they encounter an anomaly? I tell ya, it gets old, and it showcases their low IQ's. . Leave those Sasquatches alone! They don't want to be seen, especially by the likes of you, and you all are just too obtuse to realize that. Get real jobs and contribute to society, and by the way, clean up the language ok ? Yes, you, Dr. Mayor.

An AMC Gremlin of a movie. A green one, with no AM Radio or AC.

When Canadians set out to make a feature film, they...just shouldn't. Five minutes into this I was ready to chew off my own foot. Please stick to making snow, drinking keggers, and lumberjacking. These are things you, our plaid-jacketed northern cousins excel at. Look, Hollywood is bad enough cranking out their brainless, politically-correct schlock, so why contribute to that cinematic compost pile? Haven't we enough manure?

Like, I thought there was, like, going to be some kind of you know, like, weird m^*°·»f'«»°*> alien monstrosity, like, show up, you know, and say like, 'it was ME that did this you know, like', or least someone over 25, like a republican parent, you know? Or maybe Nixon that guy from, like, Germany? Maybe, like, kids need to blow up to be really woke, you know? Just saying. Could have been way more cool. You know?

Life (and Death) at Sea in the Atlantic, circa 1872...
15 January 2021
By God but was this an exceptional study of a fascinating yet disturbing examination of the enduring mystery of the 'Mary Celeste'! From experts like Celeste Fowles and other maritime authorities, this legendary sea-tale was laid to rest...and with hauntingly sad and definitive finality. Thoughtful and methodical work, here, and well done!

During the first 5 minutes of this, I was saying to myself, 'Self, this is making absolutely no sense. No sense at all!' I could go on, but this celluloid drivel isn't worth that much more. Suffice to say, tune out.

Lucy Ricardo's British Cousin, Stompin' Grapes In Greece?
9 January 2021
Excellent way to lose one's mind after a long days'worth of listening to Professor this and that drone on about the numismatic history of Etruria; I must say that having her lecture me about anything whilst cruising the idyllic islands of the Aegean might perhaps prove...fulfilling? On a more serious note, I happened to watch her version of 'Boudica'. I won't be unkind to her in my VERY brief mention of it, except to say that a FAR FAR better understanding of her, as well as the Roman forces which smashed her evil rampages, can be found in Stephen Dando-Collins' 'Nero's Killing Machine', a book about General Paulinus and his 14th GMV Legion that gives the story without modern feminist biases in a perfectly fascinating way. I wish there was someone out there who would craft that masterwork into movie format.

Goldfinger (1964)

Attitude Galore
30 December 2020
Anything that featured Sean Connery was superlative, and 'Goldfinger' was a 'shining gold' showcase of his overwhelming 'star power'...even the more so as he had to contend with the likes of the thoroughly disagreeable Honor Blackmon, who proved the old axiom to be so true, 'beauty is only skin-deep...', and perhaps even more shallow than that, given her case. Honor's brand of feminism was as off-putting in the film as it was off-set. Yet...her hourglass figure and erotic allure almost, and I repeat, almost, made up for that. I wonder how much grief she surely must hav given the teasing cast for addressing her by her 'Bond Girl' noniker, because you had to figure that they probably did, as self-important as she thought herself to be, given that she no doubt loathed the vulgarity of the word. No 60's feminist worth her salt would have stood for it. Perhaps Sean certainly needed a few 'shaken, not stirred' martinis after a full day on that set!

Good work for a dessicated academician...
20 December 2020
Now, if Mary Beard could adapt her book on the Roman Triumph to film , all would be well in the realm of classical roman studies. To do so, however, would necessarily require the herculean efforts of the film industry's most accomplished screenwriter/s, for Dr. Beard's work on that particular subject was so dry, that it spontaneously combusted in my hands before chapter 2 was even reached. As I am reading another of her offerings, I keep a bucket of sand handy!

Rome gets even with Boudica, AND HOW!
19 December 2020
If I were narrating/explaining tuis barbarian savage, I would have emphasized the man, and the legion ---13th Gemina, I believe---who utterly smashed Boudica's frothing horde of maniacs through the brilliant employment of generalship, tactics, weaponry and roman discipline. But of course we mustn't engage in such 'historical' frivolities. Absoluetly not! Instead, rather, we must learn of the rampant anti-feminism of the kind that Rome and Romans practiced, according to our expert Ms. Hughes (leaving out of the equation Agrippina, Nero's mother, Augustus' wife, Germanicus' wife, among others who suffered quietly in gender-based subserviency, alongside other historically tamous women relegated to the backwaters of Roman influence and power). But I had best stop this line of abuse , lest I be perceived as being overly critical of Ms. Hughes methods and labeled a chauvinist, or worse, a Roman apologist!

Eight ways To Denigrate Rome (or how I learned to stop worrying and love being wrong!)
18 December 2020
This British academic would actually be quite a titillating (pardon the pun) addition to any suburban community college. However, in the role in which she is cast as a scholarly purveyor of all things ancient roman, she fails, as does the network in its questionable choice of her employ. Case in point: never, never EVER compare social mores that were the norm 2000 years ago, to now. The public is unconcerned with your personal brand of angry feminist viewpoints. Further, to engage thusly is the mark of a rank amateur and blatantly offensive to the antiquarian purist. CEASE AND DESIST doing that, Madam!!! Still...the woman's got a good gig, and if having sex appeal sans talent and ability for bringing the viewer into history's days of yesteryear works, well then, work it, girl!

Sublime Artistry It Is...
17 December 2020
What more can be said, or written, about this film that hasn't already been done before this? Simply nothing of course. Masterful character costuming. Brilliant make up. Astoundingly wonderful caricatures. Beautiful actresses ( the Goddess Sharon Tate among them), ugly old corpulent hags and ancient-looking decrepit men, florid complexions, wild hair, crazily mesmerizing expressions. And above all, a great vampire story interlaced with boundless humor, love, and sentiment...all this, and a hauntingly BEAUTIFUL melody that entrances the ( living) audience while the undead dance the night away.... A stunning magnificent and memorable Polanski film.

Be The Most That You Can be, In The Army?
1 December 2020
That's what I thought this was going to be, a military program encouraging enlistment...boy, wasI wrong! II thought, oh , ok, Alyssa Milano. I remembered her from 'Embrace the Vampire', which I found to be good, honest entertainment, despite the HUGE pimple on the poor dear's face that was deserving of a co-starring role. Here, however, was a different sort of Alyssa. Gone the gynormous pimploid, gone the girl of yesteryear, and hello to the middle-aged matron of 'D movies'. 3rd-rate activist, yes. Mediocre actress, certainly. Watchable film, here, yes...I think.I viewed it, (and her performance), and I didn't become as nauseous, as I thought I might. Well, truth be told, I did develop an intestinal virus the very next day, but who knows where that came from.

DeNiro's Older Than Pyramid Sand, But He Can Still Shoot That Bolt....
25 November 2020
What a picture! All the old (and I mean OLD)hoods play-acting like kids again! I envision 'The Irishman XXII' twenty years down the road, when they're all gone to gangster heaven. Just insert FX and CGI, and voila! Academy Award winning hoods! I can' t wait for the 2022 release of 'The Austrian', starring Don Cheadle in the starring role, supported by Don Lemon (as himself), Cory Booker and a cast of over a dozen other luminaries.

There's no fool like an OlLD FOOL
25 November 2020
Ah, DeNiro...how your old carcass got talked into starring in this farce is beyond me. Foul language and profanities are launched multi-staged from this cinematic rocket pad, only to lift off, fly upwards only a few pathetic feet, and then topple backwards to blow up, showering the audience with...well, unlike Robert's character, I''ll refrain from being crude. Suffice it to say that Mr. DeNiro is much, no doubt, like this in real life---a nasty-mouthed, foolish old has-been not content until he embarrasses not only himself multiple times over, which he did, but also the Hollywood community at large, which he also did. This turgid mess of a 'movie' isn't redeemed one smidgen by Z.E., either.( I won't spell his name, so his future in film won't be torpedoed). Worst of all this, ah, 'film', for lack of a better choice of word, somehow aggravated my chronic intestinal issues, and it took several days of hot baths, crackers and bland foods to get right. But as the large intestine said to the small intestine, this, too, would pass...and so it did. Like the movie.

'Great Gobbely Goop!'---Grady (Sanford & Son)
9 November 2020
Grady sums up this mish mash of audio insanity best. If noise could cause IBS, well, then, this stuff would surely be the culprit. The fact of the matter is, is thatI had to wipe both of my ears with cottonelle after subjecting myself to it. However, I felt so relieved after turning it off, purging myself of it, an evacuation, of a kind. Yes, I did indeed. Unburdened and light as a feather was I.....

Chappie? Kinda crappie...
8 November 2020
As if Hollywood wasn' t struggling enough, scrambling around the joint trying desperately to find new and original material to give their audiences. Here, they regurgitate the tired old 'robot/android' theme, and, like the hungry baby bird, we are supposed to gobble it down. And on top of this, there, off in the distance, is that snow-covered peak of a mediocrity Andersen Cooper offereed up to us 'as Himself', and we are supposed to imagine that such a bland and tepid tasting turnip soup of a man would be believable as anything, anything at all...no, I say. No. This entire pot of soup should be dumped down the drain. Instead, 're-imagine' this movie, and 'defund' the old one.

Absurd program compiled as if by kindergarten children! The star seems to be impressed by his own talents---which are nonexistant---and the subject matter? Boring, unimaginative and purile...what a blessing that both he, and this blockheaded foray into jibbering jibba-jabba has been cancelled!

The 4 Horesemen...
17 October 2020
Rock! A very good escapist film worthy of attention; however, whatever inspired the casting director to choose Savannah Guthrie for a role in this picture is a real bona fide head-shaker...a more bland-looking, talentless soccer mom weighed down by great heaps of ho-hum never dragged its dessicated carcass across the screen as her,; no doubt, this project would have been better served by utilizing her suspect'skills' by running her off-set for bear claws, juice and dunkins coffee. Hollywood...please, please spare us from exposure to such gross mediocrity. It is bad enough that her voice and visage must be seen, daily, on (N)umbskulls (B)oring the (C)ommunity....hire a monkey in her stead.
