Turning Point: The Bomb and the Cold War (2024)
Decent series derailed by misinformation and bias
It started out quite well, there certainly was some bias on display in regards to certain ideologies and the actions undertaken during war. However, the last episode was a complete farce; outright stating that Russia was involved in some way in the 2016 US elections, something for which there is no actionable evidence. The fact that Trump is still the boogeyman for so many far left leaning people is shocking to me. You can have your leanings but be honest about what you purport to be factual information to people who don't know.
If you're a left wing Ideologue this is probably the show for you. If you value the truth then you may be shocked by what you see.
Animal Kingdom (2016)
Family is a bit too "close" for my liking
The show is great as a general rule, however the character of Smurf should have been toned down especially in season 6 where she now has a grown up son and taken another one in, her scenes with the boys are just yuck, anyone who's that close to her children should be seriously looked at by social services.
It's a good show for action and worth a watch, but the stupid decisions from the characters can sometimes leave a lot to be desired, though that's typical of basically all TV shows these days, need to make a dumb decision here and there to further the story.
Barry: crazytimesh*tshow (2022)
Plot holes
I just can't get behind a story when characters do completely unreasonable things. A PI shows up at your door randomly and says he knows who killed your husband but he provides no proof of this and then the wife and son proceed to purchase a pistol and plan to kill the guy? I'm sorry but reasonable people do not do this. We all require evidence do we not?
Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Best sequel ever
Hands down the best sequel for any film ever, in the history of filmmaking.. There is simply no argument. Anyone who has given this film a rating of 1 or 2 is simply trolling. Anyone who has given this film a rating of less than 8 missed the point completely in my opinion. This is without a doubt the best film of the year and is a tour de force for one of Hollywood's all time greats. Regardless of what you think of Tom Cruise you should at least appreciate what he has done for the film industry and that he just seems to be getting better and better with age. The man is unrivalled. The only reason I didn't give it a 10 was because they were far too close to A New Hope in the mission plan for my liking. That aside it was a hell of a film and if I could I would go back and watch it another 10 times in cinemas.
Halo: Contact (2022)
Just sort of meh
Little bit lost on this one, the intro scene specifically.. Why is it that when the rebel people use a mini gun on the elites it does nothing, but when master chief does it they die straight away? I don't get it.. Anyway, the rest of the episode was a bit odd, not a big fan at this stage but maybe it'll get better..
Casual (2015)
Valerie needs to stop
I give this show a solid 7 out of 10 for its humour and originality. But Valerie really ruins the show for me, her and her eclectic daughter.. Valerie even says in one of the season 3 episodes after ruining yet another dinner party, that she doesn't know what her problem is. Well ok Valerie, you're a therapist, perhaps that's a warning sign that you yourself need therapy right? And yet she still holds out.. Maybe she'll start seeing a therapist later? I hope so! Alex is definitely a narcissist and hugely selfish, like most people who live in LA I guess.
Overall though the show is good and worth a watch, but the annoying nature of Valerie and her consistently ridiculous actions really starts to get to you after a while, I mean unless that speaks to you on a personal level for whatever reason.
Weeds (2005)
Nancy Botwin is the worst person in the world
And I'm not even kidding, the drug kingpins, thugs and killers had more redeeming qualities than this poor excuse for a mother. Never before have I seen a more selfish character that is held in such high esteem by those who continue to love her and fall for her bs time after time after time. This is quite possibly one of the worst "comedies" ever made, and that's even putting it up against other trash like Workin Moms and Good Girls. Avoid at all costs unless you want to hate a character for 8 seasons. Longest 3 months of my life!
Derek (2012)
Brilliant
There's not a lot more to say about this show than it is absolutely brilliant, a masterpiece of comedy, tragedy and life that everyone needs to witness. If only everyone were as kind as Derek.
Trigger Point (2022)
Just a bit meh
This show uses all the old tired tropes, nationalist terrorist group based in London, bomb maker absolutely must be ex military (and Caucasian), Muslim hate everywhere, racists everywhere.. The female DI on every scene always has her handbag over her shoulder and it drove me absolutely insane!
Vicky McClure was great in Line of Duty but I can't help but feel she was horribly miscast in this series. Not to mention she cheats on her partner and it's just downplayed throughout the entire series, if it'd been the other way around it would be a major issue, but down the patriarchy everything bad that happens to men they deserve right?!
In addition the leader of the progressive group that won the election was clearly involved in a cover up and is the real villain in the show.
Don't Look Up (2021)
Eerie
If anyone wants an idea of what Kamala Harris, Hillary Clinton or Nancy Pelosi as POTUS would look like, then look no further.. Actually, add Joe Biden - it's about as close as you'll get in a film to what Biden is in real life.
I very much enjoyed the quips to todays society that we constantly see now with the BASH founders introduction to a rousing applause with the announcer stating to please not cough, make frustrated faces or any negative comments of any kind to protect the sad man and make a safe space for him, just like students in todays universities and colleges.
Halloween Kills (2021)
Haddonfield horror
I get it's a horror film, and I can get over the dumb decision making and people constantly splitting up and everything.. But why on earth would you still live in this place? It's like every year this dude comes back and kills a million people, I wouldn't be living there anymore, I'd be the first one to get the hell out! Although I suppose it's not that different to living in Baltimore or Chicago..
The Good Doctor: Forgive or Forget (2021)
Silly, so, so silly.
Daughter finds out father has been sending money throughout her entire childhood, decides it's still not good enough so she can maintain the perfection that is her terrible terrible mother in her own mind.. Ridiculous. Forgive him and move on, stop being a drama queen.
The unloading of the pistol is actually a good idea, you shouldn't store bullets in the pistol for long periods of time because it will compress the spring and not load properly after a while. Keeping any magazine fed firearm loaded for long periods of time is a big no no. Don't do it folks.
The Good Doctor: Newbies (2020)
Here we go again
So... The resident applicant who appeared to be the most respectful and helpful throughout the entirety of the episode and showed no evidence of being obnoxious or full of himself was "the worst"?! What is this rubbish?! I'm so tired of this old trope that all straight white males are the enemy! He was a confident guy, at no stage did he say anything obnoxious or rude and when he was told he was "manslplaining" it was him attempting to help resolve a conflict between two extremely unprofessional doctors having an argument in front of him! This show is quickly becoming trash..
Walker: Defend the Ranch (2021)
Edge of your seat, but only because I was falling off while falling asleep.
I get it, the idea of shows like this is to suspend reality and your belief simultaneously for a short period of time. But can we at least get some realism in the plots? Do the writers of these shows really take everyone for being so stupid that they can believe something like this would ever happen?
1. This is a Ranger, a law enforcement officer. There is absolutely no way a criminal redneck like Clint is able to sneak up on him so easily and his entire family that are supposed to be hardened gun-toting ranchers.
2. Trevor is the most moronic character in this entire episode, why does he so readily accept his lifetime criminal fathers story over that of a decorated law enforcement officer? And then continue to help his dumb plan even after an innocent man is shot for no reason..? I get that teenagers can be full of angst and emotions, but no teenager in their right mind does something so stupid, especially when they know exactly what the consequences are! "No one was supposed to get hurt." Ohh really moron? What did you think was going to happen?
3. There were at least sixteen opportunities for escape within the first 15 minutes of the episode and yet a Vietnam veteran let's his guard down and doesn't raise the alarm immediately to his sons partner, his son who has time and again shown his ability to handle himself is snuck up on and cornered so easily without putting up any fight at all, and then when a gunshot rings out the family inside all run out unarmed??
4. There is no way a Ranger would think that 2 guys holding his family hostage are in any way some kind of match for a SWAT team and a whole host of rangers coming through every door in the house.
5. Wife finds out husband has cancer and is pissed off at him instead of being sad.. At what point are writers going to stop writing women as emotional wrecks who cannot control themselves and write them as actual human beings who can reason..?
At this point it is just lazy writing and the writers clearly think that their entire audience is full of the most gullible people in the world. I would give this episode 0 stars if I could. Complete waste of my time.
SAS: Red Notice (2021)
Good action, good drills, loses points for PC drivel.
Bearing in mind I'm writing this review after having only watched half the film.. There are no women in the SAS, this is not a fantasy, let me say it again for all the slow people.. THERE ARE NO WOMEN IN THE SAS. I'm not saying I agree or disagree with it, but the fact remains there are no female operators in the SAS.
Now, the drills are decent and semi realistic, the action is also decent (though not hugely realistic). But the reality is that if you want reality, join the military, if you want action watch an action film, like this one.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)
Miscast but worth a watch
Ok so, I'd like to preface this by saying I have absolutely ZERO issues with women in the military, BUT (yes there's always a but), in the case of this film you have a female colonel, who clearly would not be able to pass the Army Physical Fitness Test (and by the way a woman who is wayyyyy too young to be a colonel), who is also taking tactical control in a high threat environment?! I'm sorry but a colonel is not going to be on the ground with her troops, and any colonel who has been deemed worthy of command with an organisation such as the fictional Monarch, is going to be the best of the best of the best - meaning smart as a whip, fearless and physically fit.
Look I don't care that they cast a woman in the role, I just think someone else should've won out on this one.. Thinking maybe Angela Basset? Halle Berry? Jada Pinket-Smith? All in the correct age range for the rank of colonel and all seemingly physically fit and strong. I think any one of them would've been far more believable.
The Plot Against America (2020)
Worth your time
The most confronting and ominous point about this series is how close to reality it currently is.. It shows just how easily we can slip into fascism and totalitarianism and lose our sense of right and wrong - much like the present day, albeit with the political parties switched..
The Plot Against America: Part 4 (2020)
Fiction wins the day again
I understand this is fiction, but the writers have gone far too over the top here.. No child in the 1940's, especially not a Jewish child, spoke to their father that way, not if they wanted a roof over their head. The writers of this show were clearly projecting today's entitled youth into those in the depicted era. At best it's lazy writing, at worst it's complete and utter contempt for the way we used to parent and the respect children returned their parents - but then again in today's age it makes sense that people might have a problem with stern parenting..
Ozark: Fire Pink (2020)
Suspend your belief
Same as the last episode.. These people all lie for a living and yet they can't lie to each other. Helens daughter asks the Byrde kids straight out and they can't just deny it? They lie to their parents every single day and they can't lie to this raving lunatic of a teenager that Helen has?! This is something that severely annoys me with writers, people don't change and just because they know someone doesn't mean they won't lie to that person if they feel they have to. Too many times do these writers take the easy way out because it makes the show more streamlined, well life isn't streamlined!
And why ohh why did Ruth take Ben to Darleen? You cannot trust that woman, she is a snake! The idiocy, for a proven smart young lady, is astounding!
Ozark: BFF (2020)
Too much..
I just will never understand why Ben all of a sudden turns on his sister and Marty.. It makes no sense, if he's so smart that he figures out the entire back story, why is he dumb enough to think that Marty and Wendy could have killed Frank Jr and there wouldn't be any blowback on them? It just doesn't make any sense. I get he's unhinged but the writers were given far too much rope on this one..
Space Force (2020)
The comedy we all needed during lockdown
I mean.. This show is excellent, for anyone reviewing it at 6 stars or lower clearly doesn't understand how the armed forces work. This show is made all the more funny when you've served, you understand the jokes, the way they speak, the seemingly stupid decisions that everyone rolls their eyes to. It's a perfect comedic version of what a branch of the armed services is like and how it functions. Some of it is over the top yes I will admit, but that's to be expected. Do yourself a favour and watch it if you haven't already, it's well worth your time.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Only if you have nothing better to do...
I'm assuming the only reason they green lit this script was because they were desperate for ANYTHING that somehow pushes the women empowered agenda..? This film was a waste of time and money, the only reason I'm giving it 2 stars was because:
1. I love Gal Gadot (she is the perfect casting for WW despite this retched film)
2. Chris Pine was fantastic, yes the person from the past who's been brought into the future is a tired old trope, but he delivered it well (the dress up montage scene was fantastically funny)
3. Kristen Wiig is great in everything, one of my fave actors - this was no different
There was literally no other redeeming feature of this film.
V for Vendetta (2005)
Brilliance
Absolute brilliance. Hands down the best DC film ever made, bar none.
Ava (2020)
Pathetic
I couldn't even finish it, once she took out no less than 30 heavily armed MP's I knew it was time to turn it off and come back to reality. I understand trying to escape your life through film, but this bordered on a far more outlandish plot line than The Never Ending Story..
