Memories of Tomorrow (2005)
Great Indie Movie
This was one of the films I was very eager to see at this year's Microcinema Film Festival in Chicago, and I was not disappointed at all.
Everything from the cinematography, to the directing, the acting, and editing was all near perfect, in my opinion. Amit proved that you can make a great film, with a great story, cinematography, and acting, on a shoestring budget.
I hope that more indie filmmakers take the time to make movies like this. If we get a good solid group of young directors and producers like Amit (and some others that were at the festival this year) I think that we can slowly prove that there is a market for independent films.
Overall, a very entertaining piece of cinema that I highly recommend viewing, it's a "MUST SEE" for everyone. Definitely one of my favorite films of the past few years.
I can't wait to see the next film from Amit. Keep em coming.
I Know Who You Are (2005)
Very Cool little short film.
I had a chance to watch this short today, and I must say that it was very entertaining.
The thing that most impressed me about the movie was the sound. Most short films, or even indie feature for that matter have very poor sound, but it sounded like the filmmaker took the extra time to make sure the sound was very good.
Everything from the music, to the sound effects were well placed and executed.
I thought it was a very well written script as well, kudos to the writer.
I think the thing that lacked the most was the acting, the actors seemed to pull off some lines fine, but others seemed forced. But in a movie with a good enough story to draw my attention (I turn most shorts off after 2 mins) I didn't dwell too much on the acting, and was engrossed by the story enough that it didn't matter too much.
Good job on all fronts for this short film, and I can't wait to see the next from this talented young director.
Big Trouble (2002)
Great Book, Not so great movie
This movie pales in compairsen to the book. The movie had it's good part and was pretty fun, But...... everyone that has seen this movie should read the book because they will love it. it is not only the funniest book i have read, but it is also the best book i've read. I just started to read Barry second book. And it right now is just as funny as Big trouble. It's called Tricky Buisness. I kinda wish that he had wrote TB about 5 years ago cause they could have turned it into a movie and had some great actors in it like Jack lemmon and Walter Matthau. Cause there are two older men in the movie and they would play them great. I suggest that everyone who like Big touble. go out and get tricky buisness cause it's just as good and maybe even better.
John Q (2002)
Everything that is wrong in America today
This Movie embodies everything that is wrong with America today.
They have a dying kid that goes into the emergency room. And can't can't get the help he needs because the health care in the US sucks !! His fathers insurance company is a bunch of con's and so is his workplace. Then he decides that he is fed up with the hospital because they say they can't help him out. (maybe if you had some good health care) So like in the schools and post offices the father decides to take over the emergency room with a gun and take people hostage. And for some reason we are all supposed to just give this man what he wants. How about all the other kids that are dying and have no coverage to pay for the hospital bills. What makes this kid so special. Yes it shows how much a father loves his kid and would do anything for him, and yes this kid is special but so is every other kid in the world. The we have Ray Liota the police chief, the type of guy who would do anything just to save his own ass caise it is an election year. He doesn't care about his fellow employees or even the kid dying in the hospital all he cares about is his paycheck and rep. Then Anne Heche everyone is supposed to hate her because she can't help the family out with there son's problem. Well you know she is only doing her job. Bill meyer said it best in the movie (not an exact qoute but close to it) " the only people americans have to blame for bad health care is themselves." I am Canadian and yes the Taxes do suck sometimes. But you know i am happy to know that if i need a heart transplant i am going to get it. i am not going to have to worry about my insurance company turing me down and saying you can't die. May be the USA should take an example from other countries and install some better health care.
