The Almighty Johnsons (2011)
Such an underrated show
I watched this when it was on scify in the UK originally and remembered liking it so when i saw it was on Prime I had to give it another shot! And it was maybe even better than I remembered it.
Its fun and a bit rough around the edges in all the right ways. I'm just sad there aren't more episodes.
The Bold Type (2017)
Enjoyable fantasy watching
Its fun to watch and its not supposed to be real life so I don't know why people complain its not realistic. Its basically a fantasy of what *some* 20 something girls (the ones the show is aimed at) want their lives to be. Who doesn't want the perfect friendship with people who support and accept you no matter what? Who doesnt want to be working in their dream job and be able to afford to do it in the most expensive city in the world with your best friends while exploring meaningful and politically current issues?
Its good to see issues of racism, sexuality, diversity, cancer, rape, abuse and more threading their way through even the fluffiest of programnes if handled well. I'd like to see more shows starting to make conversations about these topics normal instead of part of "an agenda"
Ben 10 (2016)
Its not a life changer but its fine
Not sure exactly why so many adults seem to feel theur entire childhoods are ruined by this show. I don't know whether to feel sorry that their childhoods were so bad to begin with or to believe they are a number of spam accounts repeating the same review over and over. Either way its pathetic.
Anyway the series is fine. It entertains my 4yo well enough and he likes to make up imaginary play games off the back of it. A few little jokes for adults in there and the odd bit of impressive comedy timing that has me chuckling. The most important thing though is it doesn't want to make me claw my eyes out at the 10th repeat of an episode.
Good Witch (2015)
Not good but not bad
I've never seen a Good Witch movie and didn't even realise they existed until looking this show up. It does explain why i felt like i was missing something the minute i started watching it on Netflix!
I'm not sure how all the residents manage to cope with Cassie's smug smile and condescending little chats. I'm not sure how i even cope with it but somehow i still find myself getting sucked into the whole show. The acting isn't great and the stories are just ok, but the show just has a general calmness and relaxing feel to them which is vaguely addicting.
Emily in Paris (2020)
Enjoyable easy viewing
Watched it in a day. Loved it even though it was predictable but almost every romcom type show is. Thought all the actors did a great job and the social media spin made a nice change.
