Dune: Part Two (2024)
EPIC!
After a decade of juvenile, superhero DC/Marvel dross, along comes a cinematic masterpiece to blow them all away. Denis gave them all a masterclass on making films.
As a fan of the books (I read the first Dune in 1978) I was delighted that the director deviated from the source material only slightly... but it helped to create a visual feast... it actually added to and enhanced the story.
I was stunned by the sheer magnificence of the cinematography and sound design, costume design, art direction. The Giedi Prime scenes left me speechless.
Truly magnificent film-making. This is the new Hollywood benchmark.
BRAVO!
The Fabelmans (2022)
Train wreck... you'll get it!
When Spielberg is on song he is phenomenal... when he's not. Well, he's just awful.
Some of the worst un-naturalistic directing ever. One can see it in the actors' performances. The awful high school scenes just made me hide my face in my hands. It was cliche after cliche and very poorly executed.
I do not blame any of the actors... they were following the directions of the director. One only has to look at Michelle Williams wonderful acting in Fosse/Verdon to see true acting. That was a masterclass. I watch the "Who's got the Pain" scene just to remind myself what a great actor she is!
I can't believe this is the same director who gave us Schindler's List, Empire of the Sun, Saving Private Ryan and so much more.
Watch if you are too bored to live.
Ojing-eo geim (2021)
Awful
The worst acting in the history of TV/film.
Just plain awful. I would rather eat a 2 metre mound of dog excrement than sit through another ep of this tripe.
Alan Bennett's Talking Heads (2020)
How to act!
Stunning!
Martin Freeman is awesome in "A chip in the sugar" but Imelda Staunton is sublime in "A lady of letters". Every aspiring actor hoping to win an audition should study this episode as a guide to what acting is.
Alan Bennett is a national treasure. His writing is prosaic but at the same time stunningly beautiful.
I did feel a little uncomfortable with some of the subject matter but Bennett takes no prisoners... life is what life is.
