Christmas at Graceland (2023)
Timeless blend of old and new
I loved this special, which had so many favorite songs, both Elvis and non-Elvis. I have never been to Graceland so I really enjoyed this chance to tour the grounds. The outdoor venues were showcased in magnificent Christmas lights. The indoor venues had classic charm and elegance. It was dazzling in an understated way. The performers each brought something special and I loved the reminiscences of their good times with Elvis. Excellent music and singing. Friendly conversations with granddaughter Riley and the musical guests. The visitor cameos were cleverly done. I loved seeing the pictures of Elvis and the family. It was like being invited to someone's home for a warm and cozy Christmas. I went back in time for just a while; like viewing 70's variety shows, but with a contemporary flair. Thank you for taking us along on this journey to see the best of Elvis at Christmastime.
Magnum P.I.: The Retrieval (2023)
Getting answers and seeing it through
Great episode! Love seeing Jin again! Gordon showed up at just the right time and saved the day! This team always gets it done and looks out for each other. Terrific characters and gorgeous backdrop. Subject lines and topics contemporary audiences can relate to.
It's wonderful to see that Magnum and Higgins can respectfully agree to disagree. They have come a long way in their working relationship and as a couple.
Helping out Jin and his ex-partner was just the right kind of "bro" therapy TC needed to be able to get his mind off of the stress of the shooting, the rehab, and the breakup. Sometimes after we've been through a difficult and isolating experience, we just need to do something totally different to help us get back into the world and relate to other people again, and this fit the bill for TC.
My favorite part was the joke at the beginning with Jin and the food truck guy about the extra kalbi.
The Irrational: The Barnum Effect (2023)
Grief from sudden loss
Love this show and how it touches on topics relevant to many. This episode in particular deals with sudden loss and the many different ways people grieve. I've lost several friends in plane crashes, so this one hit home for me. The descriptions of common phrases and expressions, such as the Barnum effect, are fascinating. Dialogue is cleverly constructed and character development is excellent. Pacing is just right; not too fast, not too slow. Plot lines are winding, but then tie back together at the end. These are characters I really care about and root for! Appeals to all ages and there is a kernel of truth for everyone.
The Irrational: Zero Sum (2023)
Facing life's challenges
I love how I always learn something new from this show that I can use to help me with something I'm currently struggling with. The cast is great and demonstrates a supportive and encouraging atmosphere, especially between the professor and his assistants. Many people would enjoy their work lives more just from having a positive job environment like this. This episode in particular showed true and accurate depictions of the dynamics and interpersonal relationships between parents, children, siblings. A modern and relevant series about this unique time in our society (drones, corporations, financial obstacles to education).
