Homeward (2020)
Great film!
I didn't like Onward so much. It was boring to me. This film on the other hand kept me interested all the way through. The animation was really good, even better than onward I think. Certainly better than Pixar's other films. Tom Green has a small role in this movie but he is the most recognizable name in the cast, which is a shame because there is a really good story at the heart of the movie. People will claim this is a ripoff of Onward even though it's not. This film came out before Onward, so if anything Onward is a ripoff of Homeward. Tom Green does great voice work. I could easily see him lending his voice to an iconic animated character like Woody or Shrek.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power: Adar (2022)
The show should have focused on Arondir
Arondir is a way better character than Galadriel. She's too wooden and her story is quite boring. The hobbits - sorry, "harfoots" - aren't much better. Their interactions with the meteor man feel much too cliche. It reminds me of the hobbit movies (and, if you've seen those movies, you know that's not intended as a compliment). The actor for Elrond is ok. I don't like his story with the dwarves though. It feels weird, like I'm watching Star Trek instead of Lord of the Rings. And I do not care for the dwarves. Gimli worked because he was the single dwarf among elves and men. As we have seen from the hobbit (to reference those films again) the more dwarves you have, the worse your experience as a viewer is going to be. So yes, I like Arondir but they should have left out his love story. Why? Because we've seen the elf/human love story already in Peter Jackson's films, and it was done much better in those there. It seems like an attempt to recapture that magic. Just focus on Arondir and his adventure and add some stakes. The show feels too safe right now.
Red Pill (2021)
What the heck did I just watch?
This was so bad I thought it was an asylum movie! But no! This thing was supposed to be taken seriously! Lmao. This movie was horribly filmed, like a teenager who just got their first video camera made it. Also the acting was some of the worst I've ever seen! How could anyone watch this and not cringe at the stupidity? Your guess is as good as mine. If you want to watch a good movie that works as a social satire, keep looking. There are many good ones available, but take my word for it, this is not the movie you're searching for! No wonder it's free to watch on some third rate streaming service. Lol.
Buck Breaking (2021)
Built for BWC
Until now, I never knew bucks were built for BWC. It's a shame historians have worked so hard to cover up this indisputable fact. When Sneed gave his firsthand account of being broken, I had tears in my eyes.
The Trump Prophecy (2018)
Life affirming
This is the kind of movie that changes your life. Before I watched this movie, it was as though I was walking through the world with haze over my eyes, but The Trump Prophecy lifted that haze. Now, as they say in the song, I can see clearly now. Thank you to everyone involved in this motion picture. And most of all, thank you Donald J. Trump!
X (2022)
A fun film in the vein of Texas Chainsaw
This is a very entertaining horror film filmed in the style of classic 70s gore fests. It doesn't break any new ground as a horror movie, but it is decidedly unpretentious and a bloody fun time all around.
The Batman (2022)
Finally someone calls Batman out for his privilege!
I was already enjoying this movie. Not so much because of Batman, but because of Catwoman, who is a total girlboss in this film. But when she said Gotham only cares about white privileged people, I literally stood up in the theater and said "YOU GO, GIRL!" The other audience members didn't like that too much and told me to sit down, but it needed to be said. We need more films like this and we need more strong Black female characters like Catwoman!
Halo: Transcendence (2022)
Never send a man to do a woman's job
Cortana (girlboss) is the hero of the show. When the man failed, she knew that it was time to step up and save the day. I almost jumped out of my seat and cheered whenever she took over.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (2022)
Not really feeling it
The visuals are there. I'll give it that. However, they're trying way too hard to be reminiscent of the classic series. I get that fans wanted more of the old formula after Discovery and Picard left much to be desired, but this doesn't feel organic at all.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
The corpse of marvel
This film features a zombified version of Stephen Strange. In a way, this is representative of the trajectory of marvel films. They used to be vibrant and impressive, but now the studio is so desperate to keep the whole thing going that it feels almost farcical. Everything post-Endgame (with the exception of Spidey) feels lifeless, even when satisfactory. Maybe, just maybe, Kevin Feige and the rest of the marvel crew will work some sort of magic and breathe life into the ailing universe again. However, if this film is any indication, they haven't quite figured that spell out yet.
The Jazz Singer (1927)
Strange film but not a bad one
What the heck? A guy does blackface in this movie. But it's not a bad movie. Actually the story is good. A Jewish boy puts on a black face so he can become a famous singer. Did this happen in real life? Maybe. I don't know.
Joe vs Carole (2022)
Awful! Just awful!
Everything about this is absolutely dreadful! Who thought this was a good idea? I'm simply in awe of just how bad this is. The guy playing Joe is horrible! But the worst part is Kate McKinnon! She is dreadful and embodies Carol Baskin in no way whatever! A shamefully bad production!
Turning Red (2022)
The worst animated film I've ever seen
Everything about this film can be described in one word: cringe. None of the jokes were funny (they were trying way to hard to be relatable to "fellow kids). The worst part was the animation though. All the characters are so lazily animated and just plain ugly. It looks like something you would see on cartoon network (and I don't mean that in a good way). I was seriously cringing the whole way through the movie. If I hadn't been watching with someone, I probably would have turned it off after the first ten minutes. Actually, on second thought, I wouldn't have watched it at all.
Rumble (2021)
Very strange film
I watched this and I found it very strange. It was similar to Real Steel starring High Jackman. Only this movie was CGI instead of real life. I like Real Steel more. I could tell this film was aimed at children. I didn't laugh at any of the jokes. I don't know if I would have laughed at them if I were a child. I think there are too many animated movies these days.
Benedetta (2021)
I was disgusted
There is a part in this movie where two nuns are seen defecating. You can hear the sound of fecal matter being squeezed out and the nuns fart and laugh about it. What the heck. Who wants to see that? Not me.
West Side Story (2021)
Not for me
Very cringe and over the top. That might have been what they were going for, but every time they started singing, I felt embarrassed. I like some of Spielberg's movies, but this was not his best work.
Santa Inc. (2021)
Everyone involved in this tripe should feel ashamed
This is the worst television show I have ever had the misfortune of watching. It's painfully unfunny, overtly insulting, and all around just awful. I would tell you to watch it for yourself, just so you can see what a colossal stinker this is, but I honestly wouldn't do that even to my worst enemy. It's sad to see people defending this just because they long for yesteryear when Seth Rogen was starring in moderately entertaining movies. He has obviously moved on from that part of his life. Now he's far more concerned with making ugly pottery and insulting his audiences.
Foundation: The Emperor's Peace (2021)
The ideas are too ambitious to be executed properly
The series does not do a terrific job capturing the scale of Asimov's literary ambitions. It seems like it wants to be more of an adventure show, along the lines of The Expanse. I get the feeling Apple was hoping to come up with the next craze a la Game of Thrones, and just so happened to pick Asimov's Foundation out of a hat.
Exterminate All the Brutes (2021)
Not what I thought
I thought this was going to be some kind of cool war movie. It's not! It's a documentary. Not even an entertaining one either. It's just complaining about stuff that happened hundreds of years ago. I was so bored watching this!
6 Underground (2019)
Quite dumb
The plot was really stupid and cliche. Might as well have been a fast and furious film. There were some good kills in this movie though, which shows that Michael Bay should do more r-rated films. Maybe try a little harder to make something original though next time, Michael.
The Hitman's Bodyguard (2017)
Boring
It's just Ryan Reynolds making snarky jokes through the whole thing and everyone swearing a lot. You can't just have someone saying the f word over and over and call it comedy. What a waste of my time.
What to Watch: A Horror Fan's Guide to 'Candyman' (2021)
I don't like it
I didn't like this. I thought it was Candyman movie from Clive Barker. It was just people talking. Who wants to see that? Boring!
The Suicide Squad (2021)
Quite good
Very funny and very fun all around. James Gunn is at his best when he lets his freak flag fly. I'm almost disappointed that he's going back to working with the super restrictive Disney.
Joy (2015)
The most boring film I have ever seen
This movie was so boring that I almost fell asleep several times. I'm extremely surprised that I finished it, even though I don't really remember the ending. I don't know why Robert De Niro agreed to be in this tripe. But let's be honest he's been in worse movies.
She Ball (2020)
Nick Canon needs to stop
He might be the worst "actor" in the business. He's terrible in every way. The worst part is that he thinks he's some kind of visionary or intellectual, but really he is just a simple, dumb little man.
