It's great but...

Warning: Spoilers
I loved this book. I thought the cast was fantastic and most of it was very true to the book. That being said, I CANNOT get over the fact that they have Kate and Johnny heading for divorce. Their story in the book was one of my favorite and it just felt so wrong for them not to be as in love in the series as they were in the book. I am enjoying the show so much, I even love how they chose to transition through the decades. I just simply can't get over the Johnny/Kate story line. I'm only a few episodes in so hopefully it will change but also, where are Kate's twin boys?? Kate's character arc was that her dream to be a mother and have a loving relationship was realized through the end. It just didn't seem right. I'm all for giving woman this strength to return to the workplace after motherhood but that's just not Kate's story. I'll give 8 stars though for the great casting and for going off the book as best as possible.

Bridgerton (2020– )

Must watch!

This show is phenomenal. The characters are interesting and have so much chemistry. The storyline never got boring and was quite unpredictable. The costumes were gorgeous and the music was perfect. I loved that they used modern songs rather than all period songs. I will say, there are essences of gossip girl but much more realistic and without so much unnecessary repetitive drama. I can't stop thinking about the show!!

Not sure about this...

The acting is bad. Like OBVIOUSLY bad. However, the storyline is intriguing which is the only reason it gets a 6. The script is so so and the dancing isn't that impressive. It's an interesting watch but not anything too exciting or great.

Selena: The Series (2020–2021)
8/10
A deeper dive into Selena's story.
5 December 2020
As a fan of Selena as well as a fan of the original movie, I like the series overall. While I agree with some of the other reviews that the actress portraying Selena is not the greatest, I love the fact that they dove deeper into the background of the family and the band. I find it disrespectful that anyone can say the family is capitalizing off Selena's name when they had the greatest loss but also were the band from the beginning. I personally enjoyed seeing every step that the group and Selena had to take before making it.

The movie was phenomenal but they only showed few events (as they usually have time for in a 2 hour movie). This was a tight knit, loving family that struggled for years until they made it and I think the series, like the movie, captured that. Also, people complaining about how they don't focus on Selena as much, I get it. But as a fan, I personally liked watching how AB wrote and produced the music as well as the relationship between Suzette and Selena. I have to say that the standout performance for me was Ricardo Antonio Chavira who portrayed Selena's father Abraham.

While Selena should always be front and center, I enjoyed watching the family as well. I think it's important to remember that while Selena was an amazing artist and performer that died a horrible tragedy, that's not her whole story and certainly not the families. I am hoping for more depth and complexity to the characters in the second season as we draw closer to the inevitable tragic ending.
