Maid (2021)
Almost Missed this Sparkling Gem
Thought I was watching a movie. When the episode ended, I was puzzled as I started to grab the mouse and find another movie. Luckily, just as I was about to click, the little box appeared saying "Next Episode." Glad I decided to stick it out. It's a quiet, peaceful representation of faith, in never giving up even in the toughest times. Very well portrayed by one young actor, Margaret Qualley. When It ended, I wanted to cheer for her character, Alex.
The Equalizer 2 (2018)
Just someone who watches movies and knows nothing but what I like
Two movies, the same yet different. Maybe they were alike in ways; I didn't really think about it--or even care--during or after the film. I could watch both all day and like the last one best. If Mr. Washington decides to do it again, I'm in. Paid Amazon $20 for this one--never done that before--and enjoyed it three times in two days. Melissa Leo was exceptional.
Homecoming (2018)
Was Looking Forward to Seeing Julia Again
Julia wasn't in this movie; at least I didn't see her. Like some others, I found this movie boring and pointless. So much so that I couldn't even finish watching the first episode. It was sad seeing Julia so miscast, so boring and lifeless. I'm going to watch Erin Brockovich or Notting Hill or almost any other of her movies just so I can get the real Julia back in my head,
The Bomber (2012)
A Beautiful Love Story Set During War
The Bomber is four-hundred minutes long (eight, fifty-minute episodes). I watched it straight through. I wish I knew how to correctly review a film, but I am afraid I do not. It is a love story about two young Russians, both taking part in WWII fighting between Russia and Germany. I gave it a 10 because it held my attention and made me care about the main characters. It's gritty and realistic. I think it is better than if Hollywood had filmed it.
One Mississippi (2015)
Not Interesting
I found nothing of interest in this pilot. It wasn't funny (I didn't even smile). It was not sad. There was no message that I could see. A couple of the characters were too oddball to be credible. I was never into this movie, only observing from outside. If the pilot were picked up, I would not spend another half-hour watching. I am not sure what number rating I will give this movie at IMDb, but the word I would give it is Boring. Now I have to write enough to give IMDb the required ten lines of text. I really do not understand why they require this, because I have nothing more to say about this movie. I am not a professional critic, just some guy trying to share his opinion (looking at the other two reviews, I would say I am in agreement to a large extent with them in giving this movie a poor review).
Bone Tomahawk (2015)
Just Really Awful
A reviewer wrote, "One of the best western/horror movies of the year." (Probably could be said because it's the only one.)
The film crams fifteen minutes of movie into two hours. I thought it would never end. (I stuck with it because I thought something must happen, that it couldn't possibly be so slow and so bad.)
This must have been truly painful for Kurt Russell and the other recognized actors in it.
The only movie I have ever given one star (it deserves a minus 120, for each of its 120 tortuous minutes of run time). The only movie so bad that I would take time to write a review just to say it... It's just really, really awful.
WWII from Space (2012)
A Unique and Interesting Explanation of WWII
WWII was nearly over when I was born, and among friends and family I grew up around veterans who had done the fighting, had killed, and who mostly did not talk about their experiences. During those years and the years after, I was exposed to a lot of material about the war. But I realized how fragmented my understanding was as I watched this unique presentation. When it was over, not only had it filled-in all the blanks, it also gave me an understanding of the incredible effects WWII had on this country when it ended. For me, it was an interesting and educational film that was not one minute too long. (This and Band-of-Brothers may be all you need.) BTW, the film goes along nicely, then at some points the screen will go black for a couple of seconds, and when the picture returns you might feel like it jumped ahead (it had me rewinding to see what was skipped). But it is just a story-telling device that I began to recognize and not worry about, as the movie comes back together nicely. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Her Master's Voice (2012)
A lovely little film
For me, it was just very enjoyable to watch. What a talented ventriloquist! Her on-stage performance at the convention alone was worth the price of admission. That said, I don't ever understand why review sites insist on ten lines of text before they will upload your review, but they do. I'm not sure I have ten lines in me. We'll see. I've never written a movie review before, because I've learned over the years that hardly any two people who see the same movie, see the same movie. What I think isn't important. The movie touched me, for whatever reasons; and I just felt like saying how much I enjoyed it. And, once again, the bit she did at the convention was very clever, or so I thought. And now, line eleven (or so it was in the window where this was written).
