Practically Perfect
18 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This movie has a ten rating from me since it takes a difficult viewpoint and presents it without frivolity or excessive violence. This restraint is refreshing and welcome. The acting, especially Joseph Fiennes', the directing, the history and the Biblical accuracy; even the fictional pursuit of the disciples because of Clavius all make the movie compelling. The old man worshipping God while with the disciples and the Lord Yeshua gives accuracy to the story plus, telling it through the eyes of a non-believer turned believer. I am a Christian but I bought this movie. God will bless some through it.

The kids were the best part but scriptural meaning was altered
5 February 2024
The young actors did a good job; most of them. But, the interpretation of the scripture from which the title is taken, Matthew 11:16-17, was wholly inaccurate. When Jesus wants to illustrate the "kingdom of heaven" he uses those exact words. These scriptures were illustrating the generation, those who are witnessing the events but don't understand their meaning. In verses 18 and 19, our Lord talks about John the Baptist and Himself in the light of being seen but not understood. This generation wants us to act and to think as as they do, refusing to see and to hear the truth of our lives in Christ.

Amusing and Charming makes you smile the whole time
28 July 2022
A light-hearted Western that has you smiling the whole time. Beautiful costumes by Edith Head especially for the lead women. It's nice to see Robert Wilkie in a fun role since he always plays a villain. John Dehner narrated the movie perfectly although uncredited. And it was nice seeing handsome Burt Lancaster playing opposite pretty Lee Remick. In fact the whole cast made the movie very enjoyable. And the cinematography added to this western. Elmer Bernstein wrote the music and it is beautiful. The Hallelujah Trail is one of my favorite movies, even though a stuntman did die making it. To end on a light note, it must have been fun to make because it certainly is fun to watch.
